Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Space-Space Fruit — initial use | 4–5 | Discovers instant spatial movement and develops R, a circular domain for scanning, teleportation, manipulation, cutting, and swapping. Fifteen consecutive teleports nearly exhaust him. 4 5 |
| Vajra Body — advanced First Layer | 8 | His body-tempering reaches an advanced point: he withstands ordinary blades and spears far better than before, though powerful techniques can still injure him. 8 |
| Self / refined R domain | 9–10 | Develops a roughly twenty-meter domain that gives him three-dimensional perception and battlefield control; gains Space Restraint and uses R Tensei defensively. 9 10 |
| Conqueror’s Haki — first manifestation | 17, 21 | Its presence emerges during his confrontation with Sakazuki and is later confirmed when he clashes wills with the Night Emperor. 17 21 |
| Green vine tattoo / regeneration | 19 | A vine-like tattoo awakens across his body, restoring his vitality and gradually healing injuries caused by Kuzan’s ice and Sakazuki’s magma. 19 |
| Vajra Body — First Layer near completion | 23 | His reconstructed physique shows signs of completing the First Layer, while the tattoo lets him train for long periods without exhaustion. 23 |
| Observation Haki — basic mastery | 24 | Learns to sense and evade attacks while blindfolded; the Night Emperor judges his progress extraordinary for two months of training. 24 |
| Dark Night Style inheritance | 24 | Becomes the Night Emperor’s chosen successor and begins the extreme training required to inherit the former strongest offensive swordsmanship school. 24 |
| Space Marks and linked passages | 25 | Develops marked spatial passages, allowing him to transfer objects and prey between connected locations. 25 |
| Vajra Body — Second Layer | 34, 55 | Internal organs and flesh are tempered, greatly improving resistance to poison, freezing, magma, shockwaves, and similar damage. 34 55 |
| Spatial awakening | 48 | Reaches a deeper state of spatial control, enabling aerial movement and a dramatic increase in power; its stamina cost remains severe. 48 55 |
| Expanded R range | 63 | Pushes R far beyond its normal range, possibly across much of Fish-Man Island, but the information overload causes its collapse and nearly incapacitates him. 63 |
| Master Space restoration and revival | 153 | The green vine repairs the shattered Master Space, revives Ye Qiong, and completely restores his damaged body—at the cost of his memories. 153 |
| Spatial power restored | 157 | While trapped by zombies, his dormant spatial power returns, restoring his strength, clarity, force-field-like defense, and space-cutting attacks. 157 |
| One Realm | 162 | Discovers an inner world centered on a colossal Divine Tree, apparently under his authority; he can use projections and shelter others there. 162 |
Background
Ye Qiong appeared mysteriously in Ohara’s eastern coastal forest in Sea Circle Calendar 1495, reportedly at six years old. He lived near Nico Robin and became fiercely protective of her despite being a child himself. 1 122
At nine, he slaughtered the Guba Pirates after they abducted Robin, killing their captain Gubali and rescuing her. He subsequently acquired and began experimenting with the Space-Space Fruit, discovering R, teleportation, and Dimensional Sky Slash. 3 5 122
As the World Government closed in on Ohara, Ye Qiong fought CP9 agents Niveya and Taigu, defeated Taigu, and forced Niveya to flee with intelligence on his abilities. He later escaped Vice Admiral Kuzan while carrying the unconscious Nico Olvia, relying on teleportation, spatial traps, and R Tensei rather than attempting to defeat the far stronger Marine directly. 9 10 14
Ye Qiong’s conflict with the Government culminated in a battle with Sakazuki. Though he unleashed R Annihilation, Sakazuki severely wounded him and had him imprisoned in Impel Down’s Level 6, Eternal Hell. 17 122
Impel Down
In Eternal Hell, Ye Qiong nearly died from his accumulated ice and magma injuries before the green vine tattoo awakened and began healing him. He killed a former vice admiral who tried to dominate him, then learned the basics of Haki from the prisoner later revealed as the Night Emperor, Wate Fuje. 19 21
After accepting Wate Fuje as his master, Ye Qiong unlocked his Seastone shackles with a makeshift lockpick, teleported into the Night Emperor’s cell, cut his chains, and escaped Eternal Hell with him. Rather than leave Impel Down immediately, the pair continued training in the prison’s hidden Level 55 area. 22 24
Over five years, Ye Qiong trained his martial arts, swordsmanship, Haki, and spatial powers. He also recruited Crow King and subdued White Snow, the user of the Mythical Zoan Hell Wolf Fruit, after defeating her in Freezing Hell. 24 29
At nearly sixteen, he led Crow King, White Snow, and the Night Emperor in a breakout through Impel Down. He destroyed the prison’s gates with concentrated spatial power and escaped despite pursuit by Magellan and other Marine forces. 31 37
Akatsuki and the Night God Pirates
After reaching Sabaody, Ye Qiong founded Akatsuki with Crow King and White Snow. He defined it as an independent force outside the World Government, Marines, and conventional pirate factions. 43
- Akatsuki — Founded by Ye Qiong as a self-directed organization representing “the light of dawn.” Its later structure includes specialized squads led by members such as White Snow, Fisher Tiger, and Darqi. 43 108
- Night God Pirates — Ye Qiong’s pirate crew, recognized by the World Government as a dangerous organization under his command. 109 122
Ye Qiong later joined Fisher Tiger in an assault on Mary Geoise, freeing slaves and killing numerous Celestial Dragons. The attack earned him a one-billion-Beli bounty and established his worldwide reputation as “Devil” Ye Qiong. 45 51 122
Appearance
Before the Enies Lobby Incident, Ye Qiong was recorded as approximately 1.77 meters tall, with black hair, black eyes, yellow skin, delicate features, and a lean but sturdy build. 122
After his resurrection, the green vine erased his scars and drastically altered his appearance; his former bronze skin became unusually pale and soft, making him difficult for former allies to recognize. 153 196
- Lean, muscular physique developed through Vajra Body training. 29
- A green vine tattoo once spread from his navel across his chest, limbs, and back. 19
- Golden light can appear in his eyes while his spatial power is active. 29 157
- His pre-amnesia appearance was heavily scarred from repeated battles; those scars were erased during his revival. 153
Personality
Ye Qiong is confident, highly analytical, and willing to test himself against powerful opponents rather than immediately seek the fastest victory. During his battle with Niveya and Taigu, he deliberately restricted himself to assess his physical limits and identify the weaknesses in his technique. 9
He is intensely protective of people he considers his own, particularly Robin. His determination to rescue her, protect Olvia, free slaves, and later search for his lost companions repeatedly drives him to endure exhaustion, injury, and overwhelming opponents. 3 14 51 179
His leadership is pragmatic and at times ruthless. He uses intimidation, deception, and manipulation when he believes they serve Akatsuki’s future, such as forcing Charlie into becoming Qian Duoduo and arranging Darqi’s recruitment around Lang Taiyi’s treatment. 107 109
Ye Qiong is not immune to guilt. After Konia’s ability compromised his judgment and he nearly assaulted White Snow, he stopped when he regained clarity, apologized, and recognized the seriousness of what he had nearly done. 133 134
Abilities & Skills
Space-Space Fruit
Ye Qiong’s Paramecia-type ability specializes in direct spatial manipulation rather than the surgical functions of the Op-Op Fruit. 5 122
- R — Creates a circular domain in which he can scan, teleport, manipulate objects, cut space, and swap positions. 5
- Self — A refined R domain that grants three-dimensional awareness of everything within its range. 9
- Teleportation / Silver Flash — Instantly relocates himself and, under suitable conditions, others or objects. 4 5 159
- Dimensional Sky Slash / Dimensional Light Slash — Projects a spatial cutting wave through a weapon or hand motion; it can bypass defenses to a degree. 5 168
- Space Restraint — Increases spatial resistance around targets, slowing or immobilizing their movement. 10 64
- R Tensei — A compressed spatial domain that unleashes powerful repulsion; it is one of his strongest defensive techniques. 10 14
- R Annihilation — Compresses and detonates black spatial energy with devastating force. 17 55
- R Break — Creates a black-hole-like fissure capable of removing destructive attacks from the battlefield. 29
- Spatial weakness — R consumes stamina rapidly, seawater can severely restrict its range, and excessive expansion can overwhelm his mind with sensory information. 5 55 63 65
One Realm and the Divine Tree
One Realm is an inner world formed around the Divine Tree that evolved from the green seed/vine connected to Ye Qiong’s body. It functions as both a sanctuary and a source of regenerative power. 152 162
- Ye Qiong identifies himself as One Realm’s creator and master. 162
- The realm can contain settlements, resources, and people transported from the outside world. 172
- Ye Qiong can project himself outside while his true body remains protected inside One Realm. 162
- The vine repaired Master Space, revived him after his near-fatal Enies Lobby injuries, and restored his body. 153
- The realm initially contained no life beyond Ye Qiong and Perona; Ye Qiong cannot create life directly. 162 172
Ancient Martial Arts and Vajra Body
Ye Qiong uses ancient martial arts alongside the Vajra Body, a body-tempering discipline focused on physical resilience and destructive force.
- Eagle Claw Hand — A clawing technique used to tear through opponents and even a ship’s hull. 3 20
- Mountain-Back Charge — A close-range impact technique used to kill Gubali and finish the bearded former vice admiral. 3 20
- Inch-Extreme Collapse — Generates layered internal force capable of overwhelming physically stronger enemies. 9
- Vajra Body, First Layer — Provides resistance to blades and spears. 8 25
- Vajra Body, Second Layer — Tempers his internal body and improves resistance to poison, magma, freezing, water, fire, and shockwaves. 34 55
- Following his resurrection, Ye Qiong states that his rebuilt body cannot withstand punishment as well as before, making spatial ability his primary fighting method. 193
Haki
- Conqueror’s Haki — Confirmed innate during his clash with the Night Emperor; he can incapacitate large groups and clash directly with other Conqueror’s users. 21 43 89 209
- Observation Haki — Learned under the Night Emperor; enables blindfolded perception, combat sensing, and advanced mental communication. 22 24
- Armament Haki — Used to reinforce his body and weapons, protect himself from poison, and enhance sword strikes and physical attacks. 24 34 65
Swordsmanship
Ye Qiong inherited the Dark Night Style from Wate Fuje, the Night Emperor. The style was once regarded as the strongest offensive swordsmanship school of its era. 24
- Uses Haki-coated swords and spatially enhanced slashes in combat. 31 48
- Fought Dracule Mihawk to a draw after both fell into the sea. 117 122
- Later decides that becoming the world’s greatest swordsman is no longer his primary path, choosing to prioritize spatial development instead. 117
Equipment
- Snowfall — Ye Qiong’s sword, used in high-level swordsmanship and Haki combat. 48
- Space Marks — Spatially placed marks that allow him to open linked passages or travel to marked locations. 25 196
Relationships
- Nico Robin — Ye Qiong’s childhood companion and foremost emotional anchor. He rescued her from pirates, repeatedly vowed to protect her, and later sent her away with Space Banishment to save her. His amnesiac instincts still react strongly to her presence. 3 4 51 184
- White Snow — Former enemy and Hell Wolf user who became Ye Qiong’s subordinate, trusted combat partner, and First Squad captain. Their relationship develops into mutual devotion and romantic intimacy, though it is complicated by Ye Qiong’s remorse over the Konia incident. 28 107 108 179
- Wate Fuje / Night Emperor — Ye Qiong’s master and the creator of Dark Night Style. Ye Qiong freed him from Eternal Hell, inherited his swordsmanship, and promised not to abandon him during the Impel Down escape. 21 22 24 29
- Crow King — Loyal companion from Impel Down, later known as “Black Armor.” He serves as Ye Qiong’s ally, transport during the prison break, and Akatsuki’s Second Squad vice captain. 23 31 43 108
- Fisher Tiger — Ally in the Mary Geoise assault and captain of Akatsuki’s Second Squad. Tiger recognizes Ye Qiong as a trusted comrade despite his changed appearance. 45 108 196
- Perona — Ye Qiong’s companion during his amnesiac period. She calls him “Toy,” accompanies him into One Realm, and helps him investigate his former identity. 153 162 175
- Monkey D. Dragon — The Revolutionary Army leader who reveals Ye Qiong’s true name but withholds the rest of his past until his memories return. 172 173
- Boa Hancock — One of the former slaves Ye Qiong rescued from Mary Geoise. His humor and refusal to exploit her indebtedness help her begin trusting him. 51
- Trafalgar Law — Akatsuki member codenamed “Doctor,” valued by Ye Qiong for his Op-Op Fruit and medical ability. 196
