Background / History

Naruto is an Academy student in the same class as Chiba Lin Chuan. He is socially isolated and regularly targeted by other children, yet he repeatedly steps in to protect Hinata Hyuga when she is insulted for her Byakugan. 3 6

He often lacks food, relying on instant noodles and occasionally forgetting to bring lunch. Lin Chuan begins providing him with homemade meals, which Naruto pays for in advance after accepting an arrangement for daily lunches. 7 10

Naruto seeks to improve after failing a kunai-throwing examination. He trains with Lin Chuan, improving his accuracy and joining him for fishing, dinner, and weighted runs. 11 12

After Lin Chuan is taken into Root, Naruto worries over his disappearance. He asks Hiruzen Sarutobi when Lin Chuan will return, identifying him as his first friend and the only person who regularly brought him lunch. 40
