Background / History

Tang San first encounters Ye Chen outside Notting City shortly after his Martial Soul awakening. He immediately defends Yu Xiaogang when Ye Chen questions Yu’s theories, establishing his loyalty to his teacher and hostility toward anyone who insults him. 1

When Yu Xiaogang dismisses Ye Chen’s Eye of Nihility and Nine-Hearted Begonia as mere support Martial Souls, Tang San prepares a Silent Sleeve Arrow to defend him. Ye Chen sees through the attempt completely. 2

Six years later, Tang San encounters Ye Chen again at Shrek Academy. Having reached level 29, he challenges Ye Chen after the latter defeats Li Yusong, relying on Blue Silver Grass, Tang Sect techniques, and hidden weapons to overcome the difference in cultivation. 15

The challenge ends in a decisive defeat. Ye Chen seals the surrounding space with Void Imprisonment, redirects Tang San’s hidden weapons, and leaves the Dragon Beard Needles lodged in Tang San’s body. 16

Tang San later learns that Tang Hao—the Clear Sky Douluo killed by Du Busi—was his father. He develops intense hatred toward Ye Chen but suppresses his desire for immediate revenge because he recognizes the overwhelming disparity between them. 23 43

When Ye Chen exposes Xiao Wu as a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, Xiao Wu attempts to sacrifice herself to Tang San rather than let Ye Chen obtain her Soul Ring. Ye Chen reverses the sacrifice and kills her himself, leaving Tang San powerless to intervene. 42 43

By the Spirit Hall ambush in the canyon, Tang San has lost Tang Hao, Xiao Wu, and the support of the Clear Sky Sect. His remaining defenders, including the Golden Iron Triangle and Dragon Duke–Snake Granny, are defeated by Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo. 53 61

Tang San retains memories of a previous life in the Tang Sect, where he was an outer disciple. Its strict hierarchy prevented him from legitimately learning the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Guide, leading him to steal the cultivation techniques. He continues using Tang Sect methods in his new life and compares his present weakness with his former peak strength. 15 43

Sea God Island intervenes before Spirit Hall can kill him. Sea Dragon Douluo blocks Demon Bear Douluo’s attack, and Sea Spear Douluo announces that Tang San has been selected as the island’s Holy Son and the Sea God’s inheritor. Tang San himself is initially unaware of this selection. Ning Fengzhi and Sword Douluo subsequently force the Spirit Hall elders to withdraw under Qian Renxue’s instructions. 62

Tang San postpones visiting Sea God Island until after the Advanced Soul Master Tournament, intending to vindicate Yu Xiaogang and obtain the tournament’s three Soul Bones. He is also instructed to locate the Sea God Core, an essential inheritance item lost on the continent. After receiving assurances about Bo Saixi’s strength at sea, he decides to accept the island’s protection despite warning that his enemies may endanger it. 63

He later reaches Sea God Island but leaves with Yu Xiaogang and the others before Ye Chen’s forces descend upon it. The island’s Sacred Pillar Douluo are killed, its Soul Masters are attacked, and lethal techniques are planted throughout its territory. Ye Chen also seals the Asura Demon Sword in a separate dimension beneath the sea to prevent Tang San from obtaining it without divine or comparable strength. Tang San and his companions subsequently pledge themselves to the Star Luo Empire while remaining hidden. 82 83 85

Parallel-world counterpart and original God King

Ye Chen initially interprets the setting as Douluo Continent ten thousand years in the past. He later questions that explanation after observing that the Sea God’s avatar strongly resembles Tang San and possesses power inconsistent with his expectations. Tang San’s unsolicited selection as an inheritor, despite never undergoing the Sacred Pillar assessment and lacking the Sea God Core, further contributes to Ye Chen’s suspicion that the Sea God is the original, future Tang San. 1 85

By the time Ye Chen reaches Limit Douluo, he identifies the current world as a parallel Douluo world and refers to its Tang San as a clone. He no longer considers killing this counterpart his principal objective, instead preparing to confront the true God King Tang San. These developments distinguish the Tang San whose early life Ye Chen disrupted from the original deity later encountered in the Divine Realm. 88

The original Tang San has already destroyed Qian Renxue’s Angel Godhood in his own history. When Ye Chen brings her back as the Angel God, Tang San senses her restored godhood and becomes alarmed by the unknown power responsible. He suspects a connection to the backlash he suffered when his avatar was destroyed. 94

In the later confrontation, Tang San recognizes Ye Chen as the person who killed his Sea God avatar and concludes that Ye Chen and the restored Qian Renxue attained godhood in the Yin Realm. Ye Chen explicitly identifies the Sea God’s obstruction of his path to godhood as a reason for demanding Tang San’s death. 116

Personality

Tang San is intensely loyal to Yu Xiaogang, repeatedly defending him despite Ye Chen’s criticism of Yu’s knowledge and low cultivation. His loyalty persists even after Ye Chen’s strength directly contradicts Yu Xiaogang’s judgment that Ye Chen would only be a support Soul Master. 1 16

He is proud of his Tang Sect techniques and believes hidden weapons can compensate for gaps in Soul Power. Their failure against Ye Chen leaves him shocked and resentful rather than willing to reconsider his assumptions. 15 16

Tang San is also fiercely protective of Xiao Wu. Her death and the discovery of Tang Hao’s fate deepen his hatred of Ye Chen, though he is forced to conceal his revenge until he has sufficient strength. 42 43

His selection as the Sea God’s inheritor does not immediately make him abandon caution. He questions why he was chosen when other talented Soul Masters exist, wonders whether Ye Chen also possesses a divine inheritance, and warns his new guardians about the danger posed by the Body Sect. Nevertheless, he regards the Body Sect as irredeemably evil and resolves to destroy it at any cost. 63

The original God King places considerable importance on controlling events in the lower realm. He intends to cultivate the Child of Destiny as a future ally and son-in-law, potentially granting him the Sea God position or winning the God of Emotion to his side. When these plans collapse, he reacts with suspicion and fury, viewing Da Ming and Er Ming’s independent actions as possible betrayal. 108

Despite his divine status, he fears powers he cannot identify or explain. Qian Renxue’s restored godhood troubles him less because of her own strength than because of the unidentified individual capable of reversing its destruction. During Ye Chen’s invasion, his confidence gives way to recognition, anger, and helplessness as he fails to protect Xiao Wu or escape restraint. 94 116

Tang San defends Yu Xiaogang against Ye Chen, beginning their long-running hostility. He also becomes part of Ye Chen’s confirmation that the Body Sect has been transported to the era of the first Shrek generation. 1 2

The apparent historical displacement is later reinterpreted as entry into a parallel world, and this early Tang San is distinguished from the original God King. 85 88

Shrek Academy challenge

After Ye Chen severely wounds Li Yusong, Tang San challenges him as a level-29 control-system Battle Soul Master. His Blue Silver Grass and hidden weapons prove ineffective against Ye Chen’s spatial defenses, leaving Tang San injured and humiliated. 15 16

Loss of Tang Hao and Xiao Wu

Tang San discovers that Tang Hao was killed by Du Busi after attacking Ye Chen. Soon afterward, Xiao Wu’s soul-beast identity is exposed; her attempted sacrifice is undone by Ye Chen, who kills her and absorbs her Soul Ring. 23 42 43

Isolation during Spirit Hall’s ambush

With the Clear Sky Sect destroyed and his earlier protectors gone, Tang San becomes a primary target during Spirit Hall’s canyon ambush. The Golden Iron Triangle and Dragon Duke–Snake Granny are defeated, leaving his side nearly defenseless. 53 61

Yu Xiaogang’s attempt to invoke the Pope’s Decree fails because Spirit Hall’s elders are acting under Bibi Dong’s orders to kill Tang San. Tang San attempts to propose a wager, but Demon Bear Douluo attacks without entertaining it. Sea Dragon Douluo intervenes, and Sea Spear Douluo’s announcement of Tang San’s divine selection transforms the assassination into a potential conflict with Sea God Island. 62

Sea God selection and tournament semifinal

Tang San chooses to complete the tournament before departing for Sea God Island, hoping to win its Soul Bones and restore Yu Xiaogang’s reputation. He also accepts the obligation to search for the missing Sea God Core and plans eventual revenge against the Body Sect. 63

During the semifinal against the Imperial Fighting Team, Shrek arranges its seven contestants in a line behind Tang San. Their Seven-in-One Fusion Technique channels their Soul Power into him, allowing him to manifest the Clear Sky Hammer’s False Martial Soul Avatar. Ye Chen refuses to let his teammates fight first, both because he considers them unable to defeat Shrek’s formation and because he does not want to be accused of wearing Tang San down before engaging him. 64 65

Flight from Sea God Island and Star Luo allegiance

Tang San and his companions leave Sea God Island before Ye Chen’s coalition arrives. Sea Dragon Douluo cannot surrender them when the attackers demand their whereabouts, and the island is subsequently devastated. Ye Chen leaves lethal techniques across the island and hides the Asura Demon Sword in another dimension to obstruct Tang San’s future access to its inheritance. 82 83

Qian Daoliu later reports that Tang San’s group has pledged itself to the Star Luo Empire but has not reappeared publicly. Ye Chen’s discovery of the parallel world’s nature then shifts his attention away from this Tang San toward the original God King. 85 88

Original Tang San’s disrupted plans

In the Divine Realm, the original Tang San senses Qian Renxue’s revived Angel Godhood and fears the unknown figure behind it. Xiao Wu also worries that their daughter Xiao Qi may become a target of Qian Renxue’s revenge. 94

Ye Chen later removes Wang Dong’er’s unwanted Tang Wutong memories, suppresses her Sea God Mark, and destroys Tang San’s manifested protective Divine Sense. Wang Dong’er becomes Ye Chen’s disciple, while Da Ming and Er Ming join Spirit Hall Academy to protect her. 105 108

Tang San orders Ning Rongrong to investigate and asks the Goddess of Life to examine Xiao Qi through the Divine Realm Core. Her assurance that the girl is happy and her decision to place her own Divine Sense on her undermine his attempt to regain control. Tang San returns to the Sea God Temple, smashes its furnishings, and resolves to settle accounts once his turn to oversee the Divine Realm Core arrives. 108

Divine Realm confrontation

Ning Rongrong openly reveals that she has been watching Tang San for Ye Chen and rejects his authority over her. Her break with his faction exposes the unreliability of the information and assistance on which he had depended. 115

Ye Chen confronts Tang San over the Sea God’s earlier obstruction of his godhood and traps the surrounding gods within his Space-Time Domain. Tang San realizes that Ye Chen destroyed his avatar in the Yin Realm. He calls for assistance from the God Kings but is overwhelmed, while Oscar is prevented from invoking Asura power. 116

Ye Chen severely injures Tang San, retrieves Yu Xiaogang through the River of Time, and incapacitates several of Tang San’s companions. Tang San manages to stand with the aid of Seagod’s Trident but cannot break the spatial seal or reach Xiao Wu. Ye Chen captures her before she can join him, preventing Tang San from unlocking his Asura power through their reunion. Tang San remains alive, wounded, and restrained at the latest depicted point. 116
