Background / History

Tang San first encounters Ye Chen outside Notting City shortly after his Martial Soul awakening. He immediately defends Yu Xiaogang when Ye Chen questions Yu’s theories, establishing his loyalty to his teacher and hostility toward anyone who insults him. 1

When Yu Xiaogang dismisses Ye Chen’s Eye of Nihility and Nine-Hearted Begonia as mere support Martial Souls, Tang San prepares a Silent Sleeve Arrow to defend him. Ye Chen sees through the attempt completely. 2

Six years later, Tang San encounters Ye Chen again at Shrek Academy. Having reached level 29, he challenges Ye Chen after the latter defeats Li Yusong, relying on Blue Silver Grass, Tang Sect techniques, and hidden weapons to overcome the difference in cultivation. 15

The challenge ends in a decisive defeat. Ye Chen seals the surrounding space with Void Imprisonment, redirects Tang San’s hidden weapons, and leaves the Dragon Beard Needles lodged in Tang San’s body. 16

Tang San later learns that Tang Hao—the Clear Sky Douluo killed by Du Busi—was his father. He develops intense hatred toward Ye Chen but suppresses his desire for immediate revenge because he recognizes the overwhelming disparity between them. 23 43

When Ye Chen exposes Xiao Wu as a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, Xiao Wu attempts to sacrifice herself to Tang San rather than let Ye Chen obtain her Soul Ring. Ye Chen reverses the sacrifice and kills her himself, leaving Tang San powerless to intervene. 42 43

By the Spirit Hall ambush in the canyon, Tang San has lost Tang Hao, Xiao Wu, and the support of the Clear Sky Sect. His remaining defenders, including the Golden Iron Triangle and Dragon Duke–Snake Granny, are defeated by Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo. 53 61

Personality

Tang San is intensely loyal to Yu Xiaogang, repeatedly defending him despite Ye Chen’s criticism of Yu’s knowledge and low cultivation. His loyalty persists even after Ye Chen’s strength directly contradicts Yu Xiaogang’s judgment that Ye Chen would only be a support Soul Master. 1 16

He is proud of his Tang Sect techniques and believes hidden weapons can compensate for gaps in Soul Power. Their failure against Ye Chen leaves him shocked and resentful rather than willing to reconsider his assumptions. 15 16

Tang San is also fiercely protective of Xiao Wu. Her death and the discovery of Tang Hao’s fate deepen his hatred of Ye Chen, though he is forced to conceal his revenge until he has sufficient strength. 42 43
