Background / History

Ning Rongrong first appears beside Sword Douluo Chen Xin after the pair encounter Old Jin’s battle against Spirit Hall’s She Long and Ci Xue while returning from Sunset Forest. She quickly notices that Ye Chen is far more interested in the fight than in speaking with her, teasingly asking whether he is also a support-type Soul Master. 11

Curious about Ye Chen’s Eye of Nihility, she presses him to explain spiritual-type martial souls, illusion abilities, and soul beasts capable of copying soul skills. Her questions reflect her dissatisfaction with being confined to a support role and her wish for an offensive capability for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. 12

After introducing herself as the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s young lady, Rongrong invites Ye Chen to visit her in Heaven Dou City. He declines because he must return to the Body Sect, though Chen Xin formally leaves the sect’s gates open to both Ye Chen and the Body Sect. 12 Ye Chen then fails to visit for the next six years despite repeatedly promising “next time,” leaving Rongrong feeling ignored. 13

She reunites with Ye Chen in Suotuo City and confronts him as a “Big Liar.” Rather than let him leave again, she enters his carriage and insists on travelling with him to Shrek Academy. 13 At Shrek, she pays both registration fees, pushes Ye Chen to demonstrate his strength, and enthusiastically supports his decision to fight the academy’s staff and students rather than complete its entrance assessment normally. 14

Rongrong openly sides with Ye Chen throughout his conflicts with Li Yusong, Tang San, Zhao Wuji, and Flender. She defends his actions, mocks Tang San and Xiao Wu after their failed attacks, and uses two Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect Soul Saints to pressure Flender into paying the 10,000 Gold Soul Coin wager he lost to Ye Chen. 15 16 18 20

After leaving Shrek with Ye Chen and Zhu Zhuqing, Rongrong witnesses the Body Sect’s response to Tang Hao’s ambush. Ye Chen teleports her and Zhu Zhuqing away from the destroyed carriage, while three Body Sect Titled Douluo surround Tang Hao. The incident forces her to recognize the scale of the Body Sect’s hidden power and the danger surrounding Ye Chen. 21 22

In Heaven Dou City, Rongrong becomes a substitute support member of the Imperial Fighting Team. She proudly tells the team that Ye Chen defeated two Soul Saints before joining the academy, immediately ending any discussion of testing him in a spar. 25

During a subsequent team battle against Ye Chen, Rongrong provides support, but the Imperial Fighting Team is still quickly defeated. 27 Two years later, she participates in the Advanced Soul Master Tournament as a Soul Elder. Her support combines with Ye Lingling’s healing to sustain the team’s offense through the earlier rounds and help it reach the semifinals. 64

After the tournament, Rongrong again approaches Ye Chen, complaining that she has barely seen him despite his extended stay in Heaven Dou City. At fourteen, she has reached Level 35. Ye Chen promises her an Immortal Herb capable of evolving the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda if she reaches Level 50 before turning eighteen, giving her a concrete incentive to cultivate harder. 73

Yin Realm Identity and Resurrection

The later revelation of the Yin Realm establishes that the Rongrong who befriended Ye Chen is distinct from the Ning Rongrong who became the Nine-Colored Goddess in the original world’s Divine Realm. Ye Chen learns that removing the original goddess’s godhead can allow the Yin Realm Rongrong to take her place. 86

Ye Chen eventually follows the divine connection of the Qiankun Questioning Valley to the original Nine-Colored Goddess. He freezes her time and space and destroys her godhead and divine sense, then uses her godhead as the foundation to resurrect the Rongrong he knew. The resurrected Rongrong’s power quickly rises to the peak of the Second-Level God rank. 106

Ye Chen places the original goddess’s memories in Rongrong’s mind as accessible records, allowing her to impersonate her counterpart without confusing those memories with her own identity. Through them, she learns that Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo died, Ning Fengzhi grew old and died alone on the continent, and the later sect bore the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect name. She is deeply distressed by her family’s fate and condemns her counterpart for neglecting her responsibilities to the sect. 106

Rongrong subsequently assumes the Nine-Colored Goddess’s place as Ye Chen’s undercover ally. She conceals her loyalties from Oscar and Tang San while using her new position to monitor Tang San and answer his inquiries about his daughter. 107 108 112

When Ye Chen and Gu Yuena enter the Divine Realm’s forbidden grounds, Ye Chen brings Rongrong to join them. After Gu Yuena absorbs the Golden Dragon King’s essence and the assembled gods confront the group, Rongrong openly declares her allegiance to Ye Chen, rejects Oscar’s attempt to rescue her, and denounces Tang San. 114 115

Rongrong is initially described as a delicate, noble-looking little girl travelling with Sword Douluo. Six years later, she has grown into a poised young woman with an elegant but mischievous presence. 11 13

She initially seeks friendship because she has few genuine companions; most people who approach her have ulterior motives tied to her status. Ye Chen’s indifference frustrates her, but also convinces her that he is not simply trying to gain favor with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 13

Although born into immense privilege, Rongrong is bold when confronting others. She berates Shrek Academy for trying to recruit Ye Chen through force, challenges Flender over his unpaid wager, and is willing to invoke her sect’s protectors when necessary. 17 18 20

Rongrong has a thrill-seeking streak and enjoys watching Ye Chen overwhelm opponents. She cheers him on at Shrek, treats the entrance examination as entertainment, and proudly publicizes his victories over Soul Saints. 14 20 25 Her confidence is tempered by genuine fear when she witnesses Tang Hao’s Ring Detonation and realizes that even the Body Sect’s Titled Douluo may face mortal danger. 22

Despite her father’s warnings about her young miss temper, Rongrong insists that she has never behaved that way toward Ye Chen. She recognizes his standing as the Body Sect’s future leader and understands that her own sect has little advantage over his beyond wealth. 47

She becomes increasingly proactive about her affection for Ye Chen. Recognizing Qian Renxue and Snow Empress as formidable romantic competitors, she refuses to remain passive and openly sits on Ye Chen’s lap in front of Ye Lingling and Dugu Yan. When Zhao Wuji declares that Ye Chen will join even if he loses, Rongrong condemns the academy’s coercive recruitment methods. 17 When Flender attempts the same tactic, she refuses to let him pressure Ye Chen into joining. 18

Body Sect–Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect Alliance

Rongrong’s friendship with Ye Chen becomes one of the personal links between their sects. She accompanies him into the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect when he visits with Snow Empress, immediately pulling him inside despite the tension between Ning Fengzhi and the Body Sect. 46

Her father later treats a closer relationship between Rongrong and Ye Chen as politically essential, believing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s survival may depend on cooperation with the Body Sect. 47

After the confrontation in Spirit City demonstrates the Body Sect’s ability to contain Spirit Hall’s strongest forces, Ning Fengzhi becomes even more convinced that Rongrong must marry Ye Chen to bind their sects together. 69 Rongrong’s later pursuit of Ye Chen therefore combines genuine personal attachment with concern over her sect’s future and her martial soul’s limitations. 73

Advanced Soul Master Tournament

Rongrong and Ye Lingling provide complementary support and healing during the Imperial Fighting Team’s earlier tournament matches. Their cooperation enables sustained attacks and helps the team reach the top four before Ye Chen takes the lead in the semifinal against Shrek Academy. 64

Standing in the semifinal arena, Rongrong expresses excitement at finally seeing Ye Chen fight again after two years. The match ends when he shatters Shrek’s Seven-in-One Fusion Technique with a single kick. 64 65

Replacement of the Nine-Colored Goddess

Rongrong becomes central to a plan that exploits the distinction between Yin Realm individuals and their original world counterparts. Ye Chen kills the Divine Realm’s existing Nine-Colored Goddess through her connection to the Qiankun Questioning Valley, then resurrects his Rongrong in her place. Qian Renxue supports this as a means of planting an ally inside the Divine Realm. 86 106

The replacement is supported by transferred memories and the goddess’s godhead. Rongrong remains herself but can draw on her counterpart’s experiences to avoid exposing the substitution. Her grief over her father and guardians gives her a personal stake in Ye Chen’s promise to reshape the Divine Realm and resurrect them. 106 107

Divine Realm Infiltration and Open Defection

While posing as the Nine-Colored Goddess, Rongrong handles Tang San’s investigation into Tang Wutong’s whereabouts. She directs an inquiry to the Body Sect, confirms that Tang Wutong, Da Ming, and Er Ming are safe, and reports that they are at the former Shrek Academy, now Spirit Hall Academy. 107

Tang San continues demanding information about the lower realm, irritating Rongrong, but she preserves her cover until Ye Chen is ready to act openly. 108 112 115

When the Five Great God Kings and other deities confront Ye Chen and Gu Yuena, Rongrong abandons her cover. She states that she will come whenever Ye Chen calls, rejects Oscar’s rescue attempt, and tells Tang San that he was never worthy of ordering her around. Tang San’s resulting threat to kill her marks the end of her undercover role and her public break with his faction. 115
