| Name | Sect (宗门) |
| Type | Cultivation organization |
| Occupation/Role | Trains disciples, preserves specialized Spirit Arts, governs territory and resources, and acts as a political and military power |
| Status | Active across the Ink Lotus Domain, Heavenly Soul Domain, and Central Domain; individual sects may rise, split, decline, or be annihilated 1077 1457 1704 |
Organization
Sects are typically led by a Sect Master and supported by elders, disciples, and specialized personnel. Their internal rules differ sharply according to their inheritance and priorities.
- A sect master may be chosen for a specialized skill rather than cultivation alone. The Cinnabar Glow Sect requires exceptional alchemy talent; its young Sect Master held only Ninth-Level Spirit King cultivation despite leading the sect. 892
- Other sects prioritize direct strength. In the Blood Fiend Sect, status corresponds to cultivation, making its strongest visible expert the presumed sect master. 784
- The Medicine King Sect reserves the position of First Elder for its strongest expert, rather than treating it as an ordinary elder rank. 1023
- Some sects use Spirit Tablets or Life Tablets to monitor important members. Beast King Sect disciples above the Spirit King Realm leave traces of Mental Power in their tablets, which shatter upon their deaths. 1219
- Internal loyalty is not guaranteed. The rebuilt Celestial Star Sect was infiltrated and controlled by outside sects for tens of thousands of years, while later generations continued to fear hidden spies. 1077
Inheritances and Specializations
A sect’s identity is usually defined by its inherited Spirit Arts, cultivation path, and related resources.
| Specialization | Example sect | Distinguishing practices |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemy and pill production | Cinnabar Glow Sect | Purchases Spirit Medicine from affiliated Lineages, refines it into pills, and relies on high-volume production and explosive pills for influence. 892 |
| Spell and Battle Spirit Master techniques | Divine Mystery Sect | Known for Spell Spirit Masters and combinations of spell and battle cultivation. 661 |
| Movement and hybrid cultivation | Sky Cloud Sect | Excels in movement techniques and possesses arts that can create Spell Adept–Battle Spirit Master hybrids. 661 |
| Sword cultivation | Mother-and-Child Sword Sect / Heavenly Sun Sect | The Mother-and-Child Sword Sect centers on its paired-sword art, while the Heavenly Sun Sect is composed entirely of sword-art cultivators. 661 1248 |
| Undead control | Death Soul Sect | Uses Spirit Formations to create and control Undead, whose combat strength can exceed that of their controllers. 1248 1362 |
| Body refinement | Life-Breath Sect | Relies entirely on body refinement and does not maintain a Sect-Guardian Grand Formation. 1262 |
| Formations and stellar arts | Celestial Star Sect | Known for Formation Within a Formation techniques and inheritances requiring Stellar Spiritual Power. 1077 1133 |
Secret arts are often restricted to sect members. The Beast King Sect’s Insect Spirit Armor, for example, is never passed to outsiders. 1220
Territory and Resources
Sects generally maintain headquarters, cultivation grounds, treasuries, libraries, and resource networks.
- The Cinnabar Glow Sect controls a large network of Spirit Medicine Lineages, creating a cycle in which Lineages grow medicinal plants, the sect refines them into pills, and the Lineages distribute the finished products. 892
- Cloud Corridor Sect was a small first-rate sect of roughly one thousand members, but its nearby Spirit Emperor guardian and access to Medicine King Sect pills had previously protected and enriched it. 1005
- Sect libraries and Scripture Pavilions preserve techniques, hidden treasures, and historical records. The Blood Fiend Sect concealed sinister cultivation texts and valuables within upper floors of its Scripture Pavilion. 784
- Rare resources can determine a sect’s future. The Ancient Celestial Star Sect’s Starstone Wall accelerated its rise so dramatically that rival sects feared it would unify the Heavenly Soul Domain. 1155
Sect-Guardian Grand Formations
A Sect-Guardian Grand Formation is a sect’s principal defensive system, usually protecting its mountain gate, territory, or headquarters.
- Formations may include barriers, alarm systems, offensive attacks, Formation Cores, hidden nodes, and internal terminals operated by disciples. 1037 1339
- The Medicine King Sect’s formation endured two waves from nearly a thousand allied Spirit Emperors before shattering under a third; its nodes and cores were destroyed in the collapse. 1037
- A strong outer defense does not guarantee internal security. Huo Hai found the Heavenly Sun Sect’s sword formation highly dangerous from outside but weakly defended within. 1312 1313
- Formations can become liabilities if compromised. Huo Hai altered the Blood God Sect’s Blood Demon Grand Formation so that the disciples operating its terminals were dissolved and absorbed by their own system. 1339
- The reconstructed Celestial Star Sect’s Divine Grade formation uses Skeleton Nests, guardian beasts, specialized flames, and adaptive attacks; it can hinder Second-Heaven Spirit Gods and resist Third-Heaven Spirit Gods for a significant period. 1704
Rank and Influence
| Rank or position | Example | Known standard |
|---|---|---|
| First-rate sect | Cloud Corridor Sect | A comparatively small sect with about one thousand members and a Spirit Emperor defender. 1005 |
| Major sect | Divine Mystery Sect | Possesses formidable disciples and specialists; its strength is sufficient for other sects to treat it as a major force in the Vast Earth Empire. 651 |
| Top-tier sect | Blazing Sun Sect and Moonlight Sect | Maintains broad inheritances, multiple cultivation paths, and foundations far beyond ordinary sects. 1248 |
| Super-first-rate force | Celestial Star Sect after Huo Hai’s rise | The presence of a Spirit Saint allows such a designation, though established forces normally possess multiple Spirit Saints and deeper foundations. 1556 |
| Central Domain peak force | The Two Sects, Five Clans, Eight Gates, Skyreach Tower, and Beast Alliance | Powers above regional sects, including organizations with Spirit God experts. 1354 1680 |
A sect’s influence depends on more than its strongest cultivator. Pill production, inherited arts, defensive formations, political alliances, population, and resource control can all determine its standing. 892 1556 1704
Politics and Conflict
- Major sects generally avoid open war unless the stakes are high, because large-scale conflict can cause losses greater than any immediate gain. 712
- Alliances are often built through resources and coercion. The Medicine King Sect used favorable pill treatment to bind subordinate factions to itself. 1001
- Sect conflicts commonly involve espionage. The Blazing Sun Sect and Moonlight Sect each planted long-term spies capable of sabotaging the other’s Sect-Guardian Grand Formation. 1309
- Stronger sects may force weaker organizations or independent cultivators into service. Death Soul Sect and Life-Breath Sect representatives forcibly requisitioned mercenaries during the war against the Heavenly Soul Sect. 1246
- Destruction does not always erase a sect’s influence. The Ancient Celestial Star Sect hid its inheritances before its fall, allowing later successors to recover techniques and rebuild power from its remnants. 1077 1155
Destruction and Revival
A sect’s collapse can result from military defeat, internal betrayal, loss of its guardian formation, or the seizure of its resources and inheritance.
- The Ancient Celestial Star Sect was destroyed when former allies joined seven rival sects in attacking it from within and without. 1077 1155
- The Moonlight Essence Sect later rebuilt a replacement Celestial Star Sect from incomplete inheritances and controlled it alongside other sects before it gradually regained autonomy. 1077
- The Spiritfire Sect concealed its core inheritance and used a misleading treasure map before its final defeat by the Giantwood Sect, ensuring that its greatest treasures survived its destruction. 1457
- Huo Hai’s campaigns demonstrate that losing upper leadership or a Sect-Guardian Grand Formation can rapidly doom an entire sect. The Heavenly Sun Sect and Radiant Hao Sect were eliminated through infiltration, formation sabotage, and systematic extermination. 1313 1330
