Classification

Abyssal Species are one of the Abyss’s three broad categories of existence. Classification is determined by intelligence, inheritance, and recognition by the Abyss—not raw combat power; an Abyssal Creature can surpass certain Abyss Demons in strength. 2

Cultivation and Evolution

Abyssal Species may grow through slaughter, battle, absorption of Abyssal Aura, and devouring the essences of other Abyssal Species. This process can produce innate abilities shaped by an individual’s soul and traits, but it is considered highly dependent on chance. 5

• Each Abyssal Species possesses an essence, an internal source of stored energy that can support cultivation and advancement. 3 6
• Essence is also associated with a being’s true name. 6
• Upon reaching Level One, the Great Cosmic Will forms a unique essence core according to the individual’s soul, memories, and energy, and grants an innate ability. 6
• Level One evolution is the threshold at which an Abyssal Species becomes an Abyss Demon and gains the Abyss’s recognition. 2
• Bloodline strongly influences a species’ potential and advancement, although exceptional individuals can overcome ordinary aptitude. 35

Ecology

The Abyss is vast enough that encounters between Abyssal Species are rare despite their immense numbers; individuals may be separated by enormous distances. 11

• Abyssal Species survive in a realm without sunlight, relying on the pervasive Abyssal Aura and harsh ecological cycles. 1
• The rain season produces abundant fruit and rapid plant growth, allowing creatures to feed heavily and store energy for the following drought. 8
• Many species are predators or prey within an unforgiving food chain; even toxic insects and apparently harmless plants can be lethal. 1
• Species vary enormously in intelligence, physiology, and threat level. Abyss Snakes, for example, are generally intelligent Abyssal Species with potent venom and high food-chain status. 2 3
• Some species possess evolutionary signs or specialized traits, such as the Abyss Snake’s purported Dragon-Forming Line. 3

Society

Some intelligent Abyssal Species form communities for protection, resources, and collective power.

• Abyssal Succubi — Highly intelligent social species with weak direct offense and defense; known for beauty and mental-control abilities. 12 40
• Abyssal Fairies — Social species able to collectively control Abyssal plants and construct formidable vine-based defenses. 40 48
• Abyssal Foxfolk and Abyssal Medusas — Listed among the Abyss’s notable social races. 12
• Small clans commonly attach themselves to strong Abyss Demons because independent survival leaves them vulnerable to annexation, slavery, or extermination. 5 48
• Weaker Abyssal Species may surrender their true names to a powerful demon in exchange for protection. 36

• Er Dongsheng / Baal — An Abyssal Species before evolving into a First-Level Demon; pursued martial cultivation rather than relying solely on instinctive evolution. 2 5 18
