Tony is kidnapped in the Middle East and held by the Ten Rings for three months. 4 6 With Yinsen’s help, he constructs an Arc Reactor and the Mark I armor while pretending to build the Jericho missile for Raza. 6 When Yinsen sacrifices himself to create an escape opportunity, Tony breaks out in the armor and is rescued from the Ten Rings by Yu Xian. 7

Yu Xian introduces himself as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and demonstrates ice magic, radically expanding Tony’s understanding of the world. 8 Tony gives Yu Xian the damaged Mark I armor, unaware that Yu Xian intends to use it in a deal with Obadiah Stane. 8

Rejection of Stark Weapons

Yu Xian initially supports Tony from the shadows, believing that Tony must win a public battle of his own to become a true hero. 18 When Iron Monger is about to kill Tony, Yu Xian intervenes directly and freezes Stane’s armor into an ice sculpture. 19

Alliance with Yu Xian

The worsening illness drives Tony into despair and recklessness.
