Background

Hu Yang first encountered Cramorant in Petalburg Woods after following an instinctive sense that the bird was important to him. He found it under attack by a deceptive Mawile and drove the attacker away despite being poisoned by Beedrill venom. Cramorant remained beside him after he collapsed, and Mr. Briney later brought both of them to safety. 561 562

Recovered memories establish that Cramorant was originally an ordinary Pokémon. Hu Yang and Cramorant later traveled together through multiple regions; during the Kalos crisis involving the Ultimate Weapon, both gained immortality. After Hu Yang returned to the beginning of a new loop, the Modifier’s power was divided between them. 575 576

Hu Yang eventually used Cramorant’s Base Stats Modification on it, turning it into an exceptionally powerful Pokémon. The change left Cramorant asleep for a full year, convincing Hu Yang not to use that function again unless absolutely necessary. 575 578

In the current timeline, Cramorant emerged from Hu Yang’s Master Ball in Petalburg Woods. Although unable to understand ordinary human speech, it immediately recognized Hu Yang and became his constant companion. 1 2

Cramorant is a Shiny, orange-feathered bird Pokémon with a perpetually vacant expression. It frequently tilts its head in confusion, preens its feathers, and carries fish, Pokémon, stones, or other objects in its beak. 39 135 265

Personality

Cramorant is forgetful, food-driven, and difficult to communicate with. It can hear Hu Yang but generally cannot comprehend spoken language, leaving it unable to follow direct verbal commands or explain its own actions. Its appraisal mood field is displayed as garbled text rather than readable emotions. 2 3 10

Despite its apparent foolishness, Cramorant is deeply devoted to Hu Yang. Gengar’s Telepathy detected only two clear thoughts within its muddled mind: bringing food to Hu Yang and protecting him. Its friendship rating remains at 100, described as loving Hu Yang more than itself. 1 30

Cramorant acts independently rather than mechanically obeying Hu Yang. It may interpret an emotion or desire in an unexpected way—for example, attacking Rayquaza when Hu Yang only wanted a photograph—but it consistently acts according to its own understanding of helping or protecting him. 72 78
