History

Rise after the Fierce Beast Tribulation

The Dragon Race emerged from the Fierce Beast Tribulation as the dominant power of the Four Seas. Although it suffered severe losses while helping destroy Shen Ni and the Four Great Fiendish Generals, it inherited substantial Heaven and Earth merit and held unrivaled influence in the waters of the Primordial World. 21

After the tribulation, the race organized the repair of damaged rivers, lakes, seas, and Water Veins while purging surviving Fierce Beasts. Qiuniu and Yinglong travelled the east aboard the Golden Dragon Boat, using a Water Vein Map to oversee this restoration. 20 21

Recruitment of Innate Divine Beings

To replace wartime losses and prepare for future instability, the Dragon Race actively recruited independent Innate Divine Beings—especially newly ascended Great Luo cultivators. Its offer to Qing Xuan and Qing Yi included a chosen East Sea sanctuary, access to the Water Vein Map, ancient ruins, Great Dao inheritances, Dragon Race Fate Aura, and a possible Dao discussion with Ancestor Dragon. 22

Qiuniu eventually admitted that this recruitment also served a military purpose. With the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin factions expanding into contested territory, the Dragon Race sought powerful allies before the three races’ border conflicts grew into open war. 23

The North Sea Incident

An ancient Dragon Race Great Luo remnant guarded a sealed battlefield beneath the North Sea. Having survived since the Fierce Beast Tribulation through a grand formation and a fragment of the Chaos Pearl, it attempted to transfer the Godslayer Spear’s killing calamity onto Qing Xuan and seize both Qing Xuan’s Chaos origin and Qing Yi’s Creation origin. 27 28 29

Qing Xuan reversed the Calamity-Transferring Formation while Qing Yi repeatedly destroyed the remnant’s manifested dragon body. The elder’s final True Spirit was eradicated after it abandoned its regenerative formation, and the ancient seal returned to suppressing the battlefield and the Godslayer Spear’s lingering intent. 28 30

Qiuniu later confirmed that the remnant had been an elder whose lingering will Ancestor Dragon had preserved because of its contributions during the Fierce Beast Tribulation. He considered the elder’s destruction self-inflicted if Qing Xuan’s account was accurate, but stated that he would report the matter to Ancestor Dragon. 33

Dragon–Phoenix–Qilin Conflict

Unable to find a personal path beyond Great Luo, Ancestor Dragon sought to bind his Dao to the Dragon Race’s Fate Aura and the authority of the Four Seas. The Phoenix Clan and Qilin Tribe pursued comparable methods through the avian and beast races, making expansion and conflict over territory unavoidable. 34

The Dragon Race eventually withdrew scattered forces from northern and western waters, recalling its dragonkind to the east for the final confrontation. 50 During that battle, Ancestor Dragon used the race’s remaining Fortune to take a half-step beyond the Thirty-Six Heavens of Great Luo, but the birth of the Heavenly Dao exposed the immense karma accumulated by the three clans’ war. 51 52

The Dragon Race’s merit from the Fierce Beast Tribulation could not offset its blood debt. Its Fate Aura was stained by karmic force, its attempt to resist the Heavenly Dao failed, and Qiuniu died after contributing his remaining origin and Fate Aura to the final assault. 52

During the most destructive period of the Dragon-Han Tribulation, Candle Dragon remained behind on Ancestor Dragon’s orders to guard the Four Seas. He suppressed numerous Tide Eyes destabilized by the war, preserving the race’s final route of retreat. 136

After the Calamity

Following the fall of the three-clan era, the Dragon Race’s remaining Dao aura withdrew into the Four Seas. Ancestor Dragon retreated, and the race lost its former position as a contender for dominion over the entire Primordial World. 55

Despite this defeat, it retained control over the Four Seas and numerous aquatic clans. It later appeared to support Eastern King’s efforts to gather male immortals, using his faction to extend Dragon Race influence beyond its waters while Eastern King gained access to its resources and backing. 94 95

Candle Dragon continued guarding the depths of the East Sea after Ancestor Dragon’s withdrawal, rarely leaving the Four Seas. The race’s retreat did not eliminate its surviving spirit veins, ancient Daoist Temples, treasury reserves, or Great Luo cultivators. 136

The withdrawal of the three ancient hegemonic clans also left many other beings without their former protection. Di Jun and Taiyi began organizing these groups into the Demon Race, while explicitly leaving the ancient Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin peoples outside the new shared identity. Eastern King’s Dragon-backed gathering on the Three Immortal Islands became one of the pressures encouraging Di Jun to establish a rival faction. 125 126

Cangze Defection and Confrontation

The Dragon Race had long ruled Cangze, a region west of the East Sea where twelve great rivers converged and nourished more than a dozen aquatic clans. Its dragon markings remained on the ancestral land after the Dragon-Han Tribulation, allowing it to continue conscripting inhabitants to scout and suppress dangerous East Sea Tide Eyes. The Cangze Lineage’s suitability for entering these hazardous waters made it a recurring source of manpower for tasks on which the Dragon Race was unwilling to expend its own experts. 128 129

The Cangze leader refused a renewed conscription demand and brought the Dragon Race’s token north when his people joined the Demon Race. Eastern King recognized that a successful defection could encourage other aquatic clans to follow, and directed a Dragon Race Great Luo to confront the members who remained in their ancestral territory rather than seek out Di Jun directly. 128

The arriving dragon accused Cangze of destroying its dragon markings and submitting to another clan. A resident elder answered that Cangze’s cultivation inheritance and Water Veins came from its own ancestor, not from Dragon Race gifts, and that generations of dangerous service had repaid any obligation. He reported that several thousand clanspeople had been sent to suppress seven Tide Eyes, with fewer than one in a hundred returning alive. Of the latest seventy-two conscripts, only nine returned, and six of those died within a hundred years. 129

Rejecting the elder’s argument, the Dragon Great Luo declared that all aquatic clans were governed by the Four Seas. He activated the ancestral stele’s dragon markings and attempted to seize Cangze’s inhabitants, Water Veins, and Fate Aura together. Taiyi intervened with the Chaos Bell, broke the chains binding the inhabitants, and accepted responsibility for Cangze’s new allegiance. 129

Taiyi then shattered the dragon’s Water Dao domain and wounded him. The dragon summoned aid from the East Sea, bringing Eastern King and seven accompanying Great Luos to confront Taiyi alongside him. Cangze’s elder presented the damaged decree recording the deaths caused by conscription, and Taiyi burned away its dragon qi. Rather than begin a direct battle, Eastern King announced the Immortal Court’s founding and drew on its gathered Fate Aura and descending merit. Taiyi withdrew after leaving a Golden Crow sigil on Cangze’s ancestral stele as a mark of Demon Race protection. 130

News of Cangze’s plight encouraged other groups in similar circumstances to seek Bai Ze and join the Demon Race. Aquatic peoples formerly dependent on the Dragon Race increasingly sought new affiliations: some chose the Demon Race, while others entered the Immortal Court under Dragon Race guidance. 132 135

Full Support for the Immortal Court

After the Demon Race established its Heavenly Court in the Thirty-Three Heavens, Eastern King visited it with Yinglong and other Immortal Court Great Luos. The two courts disputed jurisdiction over their followers but avoided immediate conflict. Di Jun agreed not to seize those who sincerely wished to remain in the Immortal Court, while maintaining that beings who honored the demon name did not thereby fall under Eastern King’s authority. 133 135

On the party’s return to the East Sea, rapidly alternating day and night signaled Candle Dragon’s emergence. The Dragon Race’s Second Ancestor visited Eastern King on the Three Immortal Islands, where his presence awakened ancient bloodline imprints among aquatic cultivators. 135

Candle Dragon explained that the Dragon Race had withdrawn from the struggle for supremacy but could not allow the Heavenly Court to attract the Four Seas’ aquatic races one by one. Strengthening the Immortal Court would give those beings another choice. He offered nearly a hundred surviving undersea spirit veins and ancient Daoist Temples, another level of access to the Dragon treasury, and eight Dragon Race Great Luos to arrive before the Immortal Court Ceremony. 136

Eastern King accepted the assistance only after establishing the Immortal Court’s command independence. The incoming dragons could retain their racial identity and leave whenever they wished, but while serving under the Court’s Fate Aura, its orders would take precedence. Candle Dragon agreed, and Eastern King’s acceptance of the Sea Map linked the offered resources to the Immortal Court’s Fate Aura, extending its influence toward the Four Seas. 136

Candle Dragon promised to attend the ceremony in a hundred years and then returned to the East Sea. The Sea Map remained with Eastern King, while the eight Great Luos and the first resource shipment were scheduled to arrive before the ceremony. Eastern King also made clear that Candle Dragon would be an honored guest, not the Court’s ruler or a figure entitled to precedence over it. 136

Organization and Influence

  • Ancestor Dragon rules the Dragon Race and is regarded within the clan as its supreme leader and progenitor. 22 34
  • The Four Seas form the race’s principal territorial foundation and the source of much of its Fate Aura and water-element authority. 34 51
  • Aquatic clans serve beneath the Dragon Race, including scaled water-dwelling beings involved in conflicts along East Sea Water Veins. 36
  • Water Vein Map records much of the eastern Water Vein network and is one of the Dragon Race’s major strategic resources. 20 22
  • Golden Dragon Boat is used by Qiuniu and Yinglong for travel, patrol, and pursuit across the Primordial World. 20 22
  • Dragon Race Fate Aura can shelter affiliated cultivators and accelerate cultivation and Dao comprehension, but binding oneself to it also risks entanglement in the race’s karma and conflicts. 22 34
  • Candle Dragon is the race’s ancient Second Ancestor beneath Ancestor Dragon. He guards the Four Seas and negotiates the race’s expanded support for the Immortal Court. 135 136
  • Conscription authority is enforced through dragon decrees, tokens, ancestral markings, and stele inscriptions. In Cangze, these mechanisms continued operating after the race’s retreat and were used to demand hazardous Tide Eye service. 128 129
  • Immortal Court affiliation does not erase a dragon’s racial membership, but Dragon Race Great Luos serving within the Court must prioritize its orders or leave before obeying conflicting Dragon Race commands. 136
  • Political influence beyond the Four Seas increasingly operates through the Immortal Court rather than a declared return to direct Dragon Race supremacy. Candle Dragon’s stated aim is to preserve aquatic affiliations by supporting an alternative to the Heavenly Court. 95 136

Resources and Capabilities

Water Vein Authority

The Dragon Race maintains influence over the seas, rivers, lakes, and Water Veins connected to the Four Seas.

  • Repaired Water Veins damaged during the Fierce Beast Tribulation. 20 23
  • Mobilized aquatic clans across the Four Seas. 55
  • Ancestor Dragon’s Dao could resonate with the East Sea, northern marshes, rivers, and the origin of water-element power. 51
  • A Dragon Race Great Luo’s presence halted Cangze’s lake and twelve incoming rivers, while his Water Dao manifested an oceanic domain containing innumerable dragon shadows. Taiyi subsequently broke that domain with the Chaos Bell. 129 130
  • Dragon markings anchored in Cangze’s ancestral stele extended through its underground Water Veins and activated markings in inhabitants’ primordial spirits, allowing an attempted collective seizure of the region’s population and Fate Aura. 129
  • Candle Dragon suppressed Tide Eyes destabilized by the Dragon-Han Tribulation, maintaining the Four Seas as a refuge for the surviving race. 136

Racial Fate Aura

The race’s collective Fortune was central to its rise and Ancestor Dragon’s attempt to surpass Great Luo.

  • Offered Fate Aura to recruits as a cultivation advantage. 22
  • Allowed Ancestor Dragon to force his Dao Fruit beyond the Thirty-Six Heavens of Great Luo. 51
  • Became burdened by the karma of the Dragon–Phoenix–Qilin war after the Heavenly Dao manifested. 52
  • Ancestor Dragon’s proposed route would have spread his Great Dao through the race’s territorial providence, replacing part of the Primordial World’s original order rather than freeing him from the world itself. 49
  • The spirit veins and Daoist Temples offered through Candle Dragon’s Sea Map linked to the Immortal Court’s Fate Aura upon Eastern King’s acceptance. 136

Sealing Formations

The Dragon Race possessed ancient formations capable of sealing battlefields and sustaining remnants of fallen Great Luo experts.

  • A Dragon Race Great Luo sealed the North Sea Ruined Realm after the Fierce Beast Tribulation. 26
  • The formation used Dark-Gold Dragon Runes, battlefield Dao traces, and the Godslayer Spear’s scar to reconstruct a remnant True Spirit’s Dao body. 27 28
  • After the remnant’s death, the formation reverted to its original function of sealing the Ancient Battlefield and suppressing the Godslayer Spear. 30

Surviving Treasury and Sanctuaries

The race retained substantial accumulated wealth despite withdrawing from the struggle for supremacy. Candle Dragon’s support package revealed resources capable of sustaining large numbers of cultivators beyond the Three Immortal Islands. 136

Candle Dragon’s Day-Night Manifestation

Candle Dragon’s emergence caused day and night to cycle rapidly across the East Sea. He halted the alternating cycle during his negotiations with Eastern King. His arrival also stirred ancient bloodline imprints among aquatic beings, a response distinguished from simple oppression by a higher cultivation realm. 135 136

Notable Members

  • Ancestor Dragon — Supreme leader of the Dragon Race; remained at peak Great Luo for countless years before attempting to transcend through the Four Seas and the race’s collective Fortune. 34 51
  • Qiuniu — Ancestor Dragon’s eldest son; a diplomatic Great Luo who led recruitment efforts and repeatedly invited Qing Xuan and Qing Yi to become Dragon Race guest elders. He died during the final three-clan battle. 22 33 52
  • Yinglong — Dragon Race elder and late-stage Great Luo; pursued Qing Xuan and Qing Yi after they fled the Dragon Race’s initial approach, then supported Qiuniu’s recruitment efforts. He later accompanied Eastern King to the Heavenly Court and attended the negotiations over expanded Dragon Race backing for the Immortal Court. 22 23 135 136
  • North Sea Dragon Race elder — An unnamed Great Luo remnant from the Fierce Beast Tribulation who used the Ruined Realm to prolong his existence. He was destroyed by Qing Xuan and Qing Yi after attempting to devour their Dao Fruits and origins. 29 30 33
  • Candle Dragon — Ancient Second Ancestor beneath Ancestor Dragon; guarded the Four Seas during the Dragon-Han Tribulation and preserved the race’s retreat by suppressing turbulent Tide Eyes. He later negotiated the commitment of treasury resources, sanctuaries, and eight Great Luos to the Immortal Court. 135 136
  • Cangze enforcer — An unnamed Dragon Race Great Luo sent to confront Cangze after its allegiance shifted to the Demon Race. He attempted to seize the entire region, was wounded by Taiyi, and summoned Eastern King and other Great Luo allies from the East Sea. 128 129 130

Relationships

  • Qing Xuan and Qing Yi — The Dragon Race attempted to recruit both newly ascended Great Luos, but they rejected affiliation to avoid being tied to the coming three-clan conflict. Qiuniu later renewed the offer of guest elder positions without success. 22 23 33 34
  • Phoenix Clan — Rival major race. Competition over Fate Aura, territory, spirit veins, and living beings escalated into the Dragon–Phoenix–Qilin war. 23 34 47
  • Qilin Tribe — Rival major race pursuing the same Fate Aura-based route beyond Great Luo, leading to large-scale conflict with the Dragon and Phoenix factions. 34 51
  • Eastern King — Initially an apparent political partner after the great calamity. The Dragon Race supplies Four Seas influence and resources, while Eastern King provides a means to affect Primordial World affairs beyond its waters. This alliance is later confirmed through his use of Dragon Race strength to establish the Immortal Court and Candle Dragon’s expanded support agreement. 94 95 136
  • Blue Star — Blue Star identifies the Dragon Race as its primary first-contact target because of its territory, leadership, organization, and capacity for exchange. The plan remains active after the race’s defeat. 25 55 56
  • Di Tian — The Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King of Douluo Continent does not recognize the Dragon Race as proven kin and rejects Ancestor Dragon’s title until its legitimacy and strength can be personally verified. 41
  • Cangze Lineage and clans — Former subjects repeatedly conscripted for dangerous Tide Eye service. Their refusal of further conscription and adoption of Demon Race allegiance led to an attempted collective punishment by a Dragon Race Great Luo, interrupted by Taiyi. 128 129 130
  • Demon Race and Heavenly Court — Rival powers competing for aquatic affiliations and the Primordial World’s Fate Aura. Di Jun’s proposed shared identity initially excluded the ancient Dragon Race itself, but accepted aquatic clans formerly under its authority. Candle Dragon strengthened the Immortal Court to prevent further movement of Four Seas peoples into the Heavenly Court. 125 126 130 136
  • Di Jun and Taiyi — Leaders of the competing Demon Race. Taiyi directly challenged Dragon Race authority over Cangze, destroyed its decree, and left a protective Golden Crow sigil after driving back its enforcer. 129 130
  • Immortal Court — Confirmed institutional ally and recipient of extensive Dragon Race support. The alliance remains distinct from subordination: Dragon Race members may leave the Court, but those serving within it must prioritize its commands, and Candle Dragon is recognized as an honored guest rather than its ruler. 136

Blue Star Assessment

  • Blue Star initially classified the Dragon Race as a more reliable contact target than the independent Qing Xuan because it possesses stable territory, leadership, and an organized population. 25 31
  • Researchers provisionally classified Yinglong as an independent long-bodied, winged-serpent dragon branch rather than equating him with Douluo Continent’s recognized pure-blooded giant dragons. This assessment was explicitly limited by the lack of direct bloodline evidence. 24
  • Even after the Dragon–Phoenix–Qilin calamity, Blue Star retained the Dragon Race in its First Contact Sequence. Di Tian and Ren Qianxue judged its remaining Four Seas territory, aquatic population, and political order more valuable than its lost supremacy. 55 56
  • Blue Star intends to use its reproducible Divine Position system as a high-tier exchange resource, revealing only proof of its structure until the Dragon Race offers compensation of comparable value. 56
  • The Dragon Race’s apparent support for Eastern King complicates Blue Star’s diplomacy, requiring its contact plans for the Dragon Race and Qing Xuan to be treated separately. 95 96
  • The North Sea elder’s threat of retaliation initially raised concern about choosing between Qing Xuan and the Dragon Race. Researchers cautioned that the remnant’s words did not necessarily represent the entire race, and Qiuniu’s later willingness to hear Qing Xuan’s account and renew recruitment showed that the incident had not automatically created faction-wide hostility. 31 35
  • Blue Star views the race’s lack of a proven route beyond Great Luo and standardized cultivation institutions as potential negotiating leverage for its own teaching systems, academy structures, and cultivation research. This is an external assessment rather than an established measure of Dragon Race combat strength. 35
  • Ren Qianxue argued that defeat might make the Dragon Race more receptive to foreign cultivation systems than it had been at the height of its power. 55
  • Water-, ice-, and dragon-type Martial Soul candidates remained prioritized for contact, with Su Qingxue leading the second-stage compatibility list. Di Tian retained his plan to visit the East Sea once the passage could accommodate his power. 56
