Ch. 601Red-Haired
Plot points
- Yasopp and Benn Beckman fight through the crowded battlefield. Beckman weighs the tactical risk of advancing, then follows Red-Haired’s order to bring the crew forward.
- Werther unleashes Death Thunderstorm, a wide-area lightning attack that also strikes the puppet army. It devastates the Red Hair Pirates, killing hundreds and setting bodies ablaze.
- Red-Haired crosses the battlefield to confront Werther, interrupting the attack with a sudden strike and his Conqueror’s Haki.
- The two duel. Werther uses lightning attacks and tactical feints; Red-Haired counters with exceptional swordsmanship, speed, and Haki. Red-Haired wounds Werther’s back and breaks several of his ribs, but Werther lands a lightning beam through Red-Haired’s chest.
- Their first clash ends with both wounded, though Werther appears to have suffered more.
Character developments and interactions
- Beckman shows his tactical caution, but ultimately puts loyalty and obedience to his captain’s order first.
- Yasopp adapts to close combat, using his Haki-coated rifle as a club when sniping is impractical.
- Red-Haired shifts from his usual generous, easygoing manner to commanding fury after Werther slaughters his crew. He proves formidable despite fighting with one arm.
- Werther remains confident and becomes more aggressive when injured. He recognizes Red-Haired’s lack of obvious weaknesses, but exploits a brief opening to land a damaging counterattack.
- The confrontation highlights the personal stakes between Werther and Red-Haired: Werther’s attack devastates Red-Haired’s crew, prompting the captain to face him directly.
