Background / History

Schicksal was supported by three ruling families: the Apocalypse family represented the Bishop, the Schariac family the Saintess, and the Kaslana family the Knight. The Schariacs could manipulate Honkai Energy, while the Kaslanas possessed exceptional Honkai resistance; the Apocalypse family held practical authority through the office of Grand Bishop. Under Otto Apocalypse, Schicksal was effectively ruled by a single person. 8

Originally a church-based organization, Schicksal once exercised enough political influence in Europe to appoint foreign monarchs and depose kings who opposed it. Its historical accounts present such interventions as the overthrow of tyrants, an interpretation treated skeptically by K422. 12

By the modern era, its overt religious character had substantially faded. Schicksal functioned as a conglomerate with a centralized headquarters and regional branches, while preserving titles such as Grand Bishop, Knight, and Saintess. The Saintess remained prestigious but had been reduced to a largely symbolic role under Otto. 12 27

Following the Second Eruption, Schicksal received broad international acclaim for ending the crisis, honoring Cecilia Schariac as its hero, and establishing welfare facilities for victims, widows, and orphans. 40

Otto's administration

Otto maintained Schicksal through centralized control, secrecy, and personal deterrence. Regional branches were required to follow headquarters' dispatches, even where they retained local operating methods. 49

His administration concealed much of Schicksal's Previous Civilization technology, Divine Key information, and research assets. The organization possessed substantial technological reserves, including Honkai Energy applications and relic-derived technology unavailable to most outside groups. 75 140

K422 and Freya's reforms

Otto appointed K422 as Acting Grand Bishop, granting her authority over Schicksal's assets and eventually the terminal controlling the secret troops known as the Cleaners. 97 105

As Freya, she centralized the branches by retaining Valkyries at headquarters, equipping them with Type-B Stigmata, and reducing the branches' ability to resist headquarters' directives. 157

Her later reforms included:

Relationship with Anti-Entropy

Anti-Entropy developed from a Schicksal branch but adopted a decentralized Executor system in contrast to Schicksal's centralized hierarchy. Many of its Executors were hostile to Schicksal or unwilling to cooperate with it. 32 49

K422 sought cooperation with Anti-Entropy after becoming Acting Grand Bishop, recognizing that she and Theresa lacked the experience and prestige to manage Schicksal alone. 104 113

After Schicksal and Anti-Entropy merged, the organization became part of a larger unified front. The former organizations continued as internal political factions, with Schicksal chiefly responsible for military power and organizational operations. 222 316

The later Alliance integrated World Serpent remnants through a seven-governor model: Schicksal, Anti-Entropy, and World Serpent each received two seats, while Theresa held a seventh seat as co-leader of the three factions. 399 400

Though the merged organization never finalized a new official name, it continued using “Alliance.” Schicksal remained as a factional identity rooted in its churches, welfare institutions, and former affiliated organizations. 379 401
