Life in the Far North

Ice Empress leads the Ice Jade Scorpion Clan and holds the second position among the Far North’s Heavenly Kings. Before following Ling Jing into human society, she had never traveled outside the Far North 84 168.

Years earlier, she discovered a Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Cave whose marrow had already been consumed by Sky Dream Ice Silkworm. Furious over the lost resources and his declaration that he liked her, she hunted him, but he escaped. She later explains that those resources could have substantially benefited both her and Snow Empress 135 168.

Encounter and Soul Contract

Ice Empress approaches Ling Jing’s group after he kills an Ice Jade Scorpion possessing the rare innate ability Ice Explosion. Su Jie attributes her arrival to the clan chief’s concern for such valuable clansmen 82.

Initially furious, she becomes cautious upon sensing Qian Daoliu’s strength. She refuses his questions about the Far North’s powerful Soul Beasts and considers how to escape. During the confrontation, Ling Jing selects her as his fourth Soul Contract target, acquiring her Ice Jade Empress Scorpion Martial Soul and Ultimate Ice attribute 83.

Seeing a Martial Soul identical to her own body leaves Ice Empress stunned. Her hostility conflicts with an unfamiliar desire to keep Ling Jing in the Far North. When she tries to retreat, Qian Daoliu prevents her departure; Snow Empress intervenes before he can capture her. After a brief clash, Qian Daoliu withdraws, leaving both Empresses unharmed 84 85 86.

Joining Human Society

Unable to stop thinking about Ling Jing, Ice Empress secretly leaves the Far North without Snow Empress’s knowledge and finds him in Heaven Dou City. She rejects abducting him because Qian Daoliu’s retaliation could endanger her homeland. Instead, she offers to remain beside him as his Martial Soul instructor 104 105.

Bibi Dong permits her to stay under three conditions 105:

1. Never harm Ling Jing, with retaliation against the Ice Jade Scorpion Clan threatened if he is harmed.
2. Leave after he masters the Martial Soul’s unique abilities.
3. Maintain human form, obey human laws, and follow Ling Jing’s commands.

Ice Empress accepts, privately intending to prolong her stay by claiming that Ling Jing has not yet mastered the Martial Soul 105.

Her protection of Ling Jing gradually earns Spirit Hall’s trust. Qian Xunji eventually grants her the public identity of Spirit Hall Elder, concealing her true nature and allowing her to remain in Spirit City 115.

Protector and Traveling Companion

During the Soul Master Tournament, Ice Empress intervenes when Yu Yuanzhen directs his Titled Douluo pressure at Ling Jing. One restrained palm strike leaves him severely injured. Her presence subsequently frightens him into silence, while Heaven Dou’s leaders unsuccessfully investigate her as an ancient human expert 108 109 112 113.

After Bibi Dong leaves for Slaughter City, Ice Empress accompanies Ling Jing on his travels. She agrees to help him find dying hundred-thousand-year Soul Beasts that might willingly sacrifice themselves, but considers the Far North’s creatures her kin and is uncomfortable with hunting them 135.

Her attachment becomes openly romantic when she confesses that Ling Jing has occupied her heart since she first saw his copied Martial Soul. She promises to remain his strongest support and asks for affection in return 165.

Star Dou Great Forest Expedition

While helping Ling Jing obtain his fifth Soul Ring, Ice Empress encounters Sky Dream Ice Silkworm again. She rejects his proposal that they become Wisdom Soul Rings for an unknown Soul Master and instead demands that he sacrifice himself to Ling Jing 168 169.

With Bibi Dong preventing his escape, Ice Empress destroys his protective husk and seals him with Ultimate Ice. Under this pressure, he agrees to the sacrifice, granting Ling Jing a near-million-year Soul Ring and a vast increase in spiritual power 171 172.

She later witnesses Ling Jing contract the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. The Auspicious Beast’s ability to improve cultivation and tribulation survival makes her envious on behalf of herself, Snow Empress, and the Far North 173.

Around Ling Jing, her aloofness gives way to gentleness, possessiveness, and jealousy. She initially explains her discomfort with his closeness to Bibi Dong by insisting that she and Ling Jing are the true “same kind.” Later, she begins considering him as a possible partner and eventually admits her feelings directly 106 111 165.

Her attachment does not eliminate her caution. She restrains her attack on Yu Yuanzhen to avoid jeopardizing her place beside Ling Jing, refuses cultivation that would hasten a dangerous tribulation, and stays away from the Worship Hall because of Qian Daoliu’s strength 108 128 136 179.
