Background

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen, leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, but is described as a discarded or expelled member of that clan. His weak cultivation, mutated Luo Sanpao Martial Soul, and lack of standing leave him deeply sensitive to contempt from others. 1 16 26

His Innate Soul Power is only half a level. Ling Jing states that Yu relied on precious resources to barely advance beyond level twenty, and later narration identifies Purple Lingzhi as one of the medicinal herbs he consumed. 1 16 59

After Bibi Dong became Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden, Yu developed a close relationship with her. Bibi initially admired his claimed martial soul knowledge and developed unusual feelings for him, though she was not ready to accept his attempt at physical intimacy. 1 2

Yu secretly bribed Bibi Dong’s maid, Xiaoming, to deliver messages and repeatedly praise him before Bibi Dong. This manipulation helped shape her early favorable opinion of him, but was later exposed by Ling Jing and admitted by the maid. 13 14

Following his defeat by Ling Jing, Yu was recovered and treated under the Heaven Dou Imperial Family’s care. However, Ling Jing’s Angel Sacred Sword strike had permanently severed his manhood, leaving Yu impotent and contributing to his increasingly feminine presentation, resentment, and instability. 36 59 65

Yu Yuanzhen later seeks both Aromatic Silk Beauty, which may evolve a mutated Martial Soul, and the Nine-Heart Begonia healer Ye Longyu as possible means of restoring Yu’s prospects. Yu becomes fixated on these possibilities, though his father privately doubts both his ambitions and his mental condition. 65 66

Alongside the treatment, Yu Yuanzhen secretly considers marrying Yu to Ye Longyu’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Ye Linglong. He hopes to strengthen the clan through the Nine-Heart Begonia lineage and encourage his son to forget Bibi Dong and establish a family. Neither Ye Longyu nor Ye Linglong initially knows of this plan. 67

Yu Xiaogang is described as an ordinary-looking young man. His lack of exceptional appearance is repeatedly contrasted with Bibi Dong’s status and talent. 1 16

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is insecure, prideful, and intensely concerned with how Bibi Dong and others perceive him. Public disdain over his low talent and failures in martial soul theory repeatedly provokes resentment, particularly toward Ling Jing. 1 2 6

He tends to blame others for the consequences of his own actions. After Bibi Dong rejects him, he attributes the collapse of their relationship to Ling Jing rather than acknowledging his false claims, manipulation of Xiaoming, or misuse of Bibi Dong’s name. 15 16 25

His desperation also makes him manipulative and dishonest. When short of money in Spirit City, he uses his past association with Bibi Dong to obtain food, drink, payments, and admiration from inexperienced soul masters. 17

After Ling Jing mutilates him, Yu’s resentment toward Ling Jing, Bibi Dong, and Spirit Hall develops into an obsessive desire for revenge. He neglects his health while attempting to decipher the Soul Core Method, imagines himself becoming a Titled Douluo, and fantasizes about publicly destroying Spirit Hall’s reputation. 65 66 94

Yu remains convinced that he is a great martial soul theorist despite repeated evidence to the contrary. He misinterprets the Soul Core Method as a means to increase Soul Ring ages and treats this speculative conclusion as proof that he can force Spirit Hall to surrender its secrets. 121 123 124

His jealousy and poor judgment persist even in public. At the Heaven Dou tournament, he attempts to approach and impress the Ice Empress with his supposed research, only to be threatened into retreat and further humiliated. 107

Despite his resentment, Yu recognizes his dependence on the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. During the Heaven Dou tournament, he initially restrains himself because he fears that further disgrace could lead to another expulsion and deprive him of his father’s support in finding Aromatic Silk Beauty. 94

During Ling Jing’s awakening ceremony, Yu’s poor Innate Soul Power is unfavorably contrasted with that of the orphaned children. He then damages Bibi Dong’s confidence in his scholarship by confidently misidentifying Ling Jing’s Martial Soul. 1 2

Loss of Bibi Dong’s Trust

Yu attempts to regain Bibi Dong’s favor through expensive meals, theoretical advice, and the Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night. His advice proves shallow, while the discovery that he bribed Xiaoming destroys Bibi Dong’s remaining trust. 6 7 13 15

At Spirit Tower, the meal costs 823 Gold Soul Coins, reduced to 800, which Yu cannot afford despite having offered to treat Bibi Dong and Ling Jing. Bibi Dong arranges payment under her own name, but departs with Ling Jing rather than comforting Yu, further exposing the distance between them. 7

When Bibi Dong rejects his gift and ends their relationship, Yu tries to attack Ling Jing. Bibi Dong shields Ling Jing and orders Yu never to seek her out again. 15 16

Fraud and Expulsion from Spirit City

Unable to support himself after the breakup, Yu exploits his former association with Bibi Dong. He poses as her trusted acquaintance, accepts money for guidance, and permits others to call him “Master.” 17

A Spirit Hall deacon publicly exposes him with Bibi Dong’s official order stating that he has no relationship with the Holy Maiden. Yu is beaten, expelled from Spirit City, permanently banned from returning, and forced to surrender his Storage Soul Tool as repayment. 17 18

Heaven Dou Confrontation and Defeat

Yu later encounters Bibi Dong, Ling Jing, Flender, and Liu Erlong in Heaven Dou Imperial City. Ling Jing publicly reveals Yu’s fraud and mocks his failed claims of martial soul expertise, while Bibi Dong confirms that their friendship is over. 24 25

After Yu insults Spirit Hall and invokes his clan background, Golden Crocodile Douluo offers him a chance to avoid punishment by defeating Ling Jing. Yu accepts, believing that his Soul Grandmaster cultivation will be sufficient. 26

Ling Jing defeats him with a single strike from the Angel Sacred Sword, inflicting a severe injury that leaves Yu physically and psychologically devastated. He is abandoned after Spirit Hall departs, though the Heaven Dou Imperial Family later rescues and treats him. 27 28 36

The injury permanently severs Yu’s manhood. Although Yu Yuanzhen later seeks treatment through Ye Longyu’s Nine-Heart Begonia Martial Soul, Yu remains impotent and develops a more feminine appearance and demeanor. 59 65 66 68

Obsession with the Soul Core Method

While recuperating with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu becomes fixated on the Soul Core Method. He believes that uncovering it before Spirit Hall will restore his reputation and enable him to destroy Ling Jing, Bibi Dong, and Spirit Hall politically. 65 94

News that Aromatic Silk Beauty may evolve a mutated Martial Soul gives Yu renewed but increasingly delusional hope. He imagines recovering his virility, evolving Luo Sanpao, becoming a Titled Douluo, and taking revenge on all who humiliated him. 66

Yu Yuanzhen brings Ye Longyu and Ye Linglong to the clan for a medical visit, while secretly considering a marriage alliance. During the private examination, Yu produces the jar containing his preserved severed organ and asks whether it can be reattached. Ye Longyu initially fails to recognize it, creating another humiliating encounter. 67 68

His cultivation nevertheless advances to level 27. After secretly watching Bibi Dong feed Ling Jing one of Shao Xin’s Sugar Beans and leave hand in hand with him, Yu again vows revenge and looks forward to publicly disgracing them during the Spirit City finals. 99

Yu later wrongly concludes that the Soul Core Method is responsible for increasing Soul Ring ages and Bibi Dong’s rapid advancement. He treats this speculation as an intellectual breakthrough despite having failed to produce or understand an actual Soul Core. 121

Tournament Humiliation and Public Collapse

Yu attends the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament as part of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s delegation. His altered appearance, obsessive hostility toward Ling Jing and Bibi Dong, and failed attempt to ingratiate himself with the Ice Empress further damage both his credibility and his clan’s reputation. 92 107 113

At the Spirit City finals, Spirit Hall guards enforce Yu’s permanent blacklist and initially refuse him entry. Ling Jing grants him conditional admission specifically so that he can witness Thunderclap Academy’s defeat and face greater public humiliation. The Ice Empress intimidates Yu as he enters, causing him to wet himself before the crowd. 114 116

When Ling Jing enters the arena against Tiankui Academy and reveals a ten-thousand-year fourth Soul Ring, Yu responds with disbelief and anger because the configuration contradicts his claimed theoretical limits. 117

After Bibi Dong leads Spirit Hall Academy to victory, Yu interrupts the award ceremony to “question the Holy Son’s crimes.” He accuses Ling Jing of seducing Bibi Dong, mutilating him, and hoarding the Soul Core Method. 122 123

Qian Xunji rejects Yu’s accusations, publicly acknowledges that Bibi Dong and Ling Jing’s relationship is consensual, and clarifies that the Soul Core Method does not enhance Soul Ring ages. Ling Jing mocks Yu’s castration, causing the crowd to popularize the nickname “Pig Yu Xiaogang,” then silences him with a slap and renders him unconscious. 123 124

The humiliation causes Yu to vomit blood twice and leaves him unable to stand, but he still attempts to present his mistaken Soul Ring enhancement theory as grounds for forcing Spirit Hall to surrender the method. Ling Jing intends to imprison him rather than execute him after stopping the confrontation. 123 124

Yu’s actions contribute to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s collapse in prestige. Yu Yuanzhen eventually steps down, and the clan closes itself off after losing its position among the Upper Three Sects. 141
