Background & History

Zhunti and Jieyin search Mount Buzhou for treasures capable of restoring the impoverished West. When the pair breaks an innate formation around the Seven-Treasure Gengjin Bodhi Branch, Zhunti claims that the root is “fated to the West” and intends to merge its Gengjin origin into his true form. Li Qingxiao takes the branch before Zhunti can seize it, beginning their enmity. 2

Enraged by the theft, Zhunti attacks Li Qingxiao with the embryonic Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree. The Twelfth-Grade Purifying White Lotus completely dissolves his Seven Treasures Divine Light, and Jieyin forces him to withdraw rather than risk a losing battle. 3

Zhunti and Jieyin arrive late to Purple Heaven Palace in a battered state after crossing the chaos. Zhunti publicly laments the West’s suffering, then targets the compassionate Hong Yun for the fifth Purple-Gold Futon. Li Qingxiao prevents Hong Yun from surrendering it, exposing Zhunti’s desperation and reviving the grievance over the Bodhi Branch. 8 9

Zhunti attacks Li Qingxiao and Hong Yun with the Seven Treasures Wondrous Tree Prototype, but the reflected strike injures and dislodges Kunpeng from the sixth futon. Zhunti immediately uses the rudimentary Western Six-Foot Golden Body to ram Kunpeng away and take the vacant seat. He tries to yield it to Jieyin, but the Heavenly Dao seals all six occupants in place before Jieyin can approach. 9 10

Hongjun later confirms the altered seating order: Hong Yun remains on the fifth futon, Zhunti holds the sixth, and Jieyin listens from the side. During the first sermon, Zhunti benefits from the futon’s Dao resonance, but his anger and the karmic burden of forcibly taking the seat prevent him from fully settling into enlightenment. 11 12

Zhunti is a thin Daoist with twin topknots and simple clothing. His eyes are repeatedly described as carrying cunning and greed, while his mana bears the West’s distinctive Gengjin aura. 2

Personality

Zhunti is intensely opportunity-driven, especially where the prosperity of the West is concerned. He treats valuable treasures and Purple Heaven Palace’s seats as resources necessary to reverse the West’s barrenness, but this goal frequently manifests as greed, impatience, and aggression. 2 3 8

He is also highly manipulative. At Purple Heaven Palace, he stages a dramatic display of misery, invokes the plight of Western beings, and exploits Hong Yun’s compassion in an attempt to obtain a futon. When the ploy fails, he abandons the performance and attacks in rage. 8 9

Despite his ruthlessness, Zhunti shows concern for Jieyin: immediately after claiming the sixth seat, he attempts to give it to his senior brother. 10
