Background
Soul Spirits are the modern alternative to the ancient Soul Ring system. Rather than serving only as a fixed source of Soul Skills, a Soul Spirit accompanies its Soul Master as a combat partner and can continue growing alongside them. Consequently, compatibility, temperament, bloodline, and future potential are all important in selecting one. 14
The Spirit Pagoda maintains Soul Spirit reserves and databases, including ordinary selections and restricted high-grade categories. Its resources vary substantially in quality; two Soul Spirits of the same nominal cultivation level may differ dramatically in value and potential. 9 15
Functions and Mechanics
Fusion and Cultivation
A Soul Spirit provides its master with a Soul Ring and associated Soul Skill upon successful fusion. The process is generally gentler than the former method of absorbing Soul Rings, though it does not necessarily provide the same immediate increase in Soul Power or physical strength. 16
- Twin Martial Soul users can cultivate both Martial Souls at the same time if they possess sufficient Mental Power to support Soul Spirits on each. 7
- Mental Power determines what cultivation level of Soul Spirit a Soul Master can safely control. 7 13
- Mental Power alone is not enough: an untrained body and fragile meridians may still be unable to withstand the energy of an excessively powerful Soul Spirit. 8 16

Selection Criteria
Soul Spirits are chosen for synergy with a Martial Soul rather than raw cultivation alone. A suitable partner may reinforce a master’s primary attributes, supply missing combat options, or possess the potential to evolve under the influence of the master’s bloodline. 14 16
- Matching species can make fusion especially smooth; Tang Wuling’s Soft Bone Rabbit Soul Spirit encountered almost no resistance when fused with her Soft Bone Rabbit Martial Soul. 18
- Strong bloodlines can suppress a Soul Spirit during fusion, as Tang Wuling’s Golden Dragon did to the Titan Python. 16
- Dragon-type Soul Spirits are generally difficult to obtain at low cultivation levels because even weak True Dragons and Sub-Dragons are naturally powerful. 14
- Artificial Soul Spirits may exist at lower cultivation levels, but their growth ceiling is limited. 14
Unyielding Soul Spirits
Unyielding Soul Spirits are exceptionally proud, strong-willed Soul Beasts or reconstructed Soul Beasts that refuse to submit to masters with inferior bloodlines. They are normally kept out of public Spirit Pagoda listings due to the danger and difficulty of fusion. 15 19
