As for why other transmigrators had not left their names in history—what was so surprising about that? Not to mention that most records from the Fourth Epoch and earlier were incomplete, making it impossible to rule out the possibility that even earlier transmigrators had caused major events that simply had not been passed down.
People also had different personalities. It was perfectly normal for there to be flamboyant transmigrators like Rosell, as well as low-key ones who disliked drawing attention to themselves.
What Klein cared about more were two other questions. The first was this fellow countryman's later experiences—the diary only recorded up until Soroyastor was captured by Amon and kept by him like a little snack to be harvested in the future, while Soroyastor secretly plotted his own rescue. Then it abruptly ended. Although the diary seemed to imply that he had successfully escaped afterward, it was still rather worrying.
The second question concerned the description of the Soroast Family—an ancient Beyonder family with a long scholarly heritage that had already declined, an enemy named Amon, and family members who could choose among the Marauder, Seer, and Apprentice pathways.
Klein: ...
This felt so familiar!
Had he heard of this setup somewhere before?
Klein thought of his newly acquired teacher and, for a moment, had an absurd guess—could this diary have been written by Luo Lin?
But Klein soon felt that was unlikely. Mainly because Luo Lin had no reason to let his diary fall into others' hands, and Luo Lin was a Seer, not a Marauder.
"But it's also possible that Jack made the diary up. But what would he gain from doing that?" Klein still felt this possibility was unlikely, mainly because the other man truly had no motive.
"But he might not need a motive. Maybe he just did it for fun..." Thinking of the playful side Luo Lin had occasionally revealed during their time together, Klein suddenly felt that it made sense again.
After all, college students with too much time on their hands could do anything.
Unable to reach a conclusion, Klein did not dwell on it. Instead, he continued presiding over the Tarot Club and informed Justice Audrey and Hanged Man Alger of the new honorific name he had devised, asking them to try praying to it after they returned.
After the Tarot Club ended and Klein saw Justice Audrey and Hanged Man Alger off, he looked at the diary in his hand and frowned.
After some thought, he manifested a pendulum and began a divination. The content of the divination was: "Jack Jones wrote this page of diary."
The result came quickly: a denial.
The diary had not come from Jack Jones.
Klein had great faith in the divination results above the gray fog. Seeing this, he revealed a thoughtful expression. "So there really is a fourth transmigrator..."
Remembering that Luo Lin had been wary, but not overly afraid, when mentioning Amon, another guess suddenly arose in Klein's heart. "Could it be that Jack had this attitude toward Amon precisely because he read the diary of that transmigrator senior from the Soroast Family?"
"Hmm, but even if that's true, it still doesn't rule out the possibility that Jack really is a member of the Soroast Family. Those two things can coexist."
While Klein was brainstorming above the gray fog, Luo Lin was in a faculty office at Tingen University, discussing certain aspects of Fourth Epoch history with Mr. Azik.
"...Mr. Azik, you really are incredibly knowledgeable. You even knew that." Luo Lin sincerely exclaimed. During his discussion with Mr. Azik just now, he had indeed gained quite a bit of interesting knowledge. He did not know whether it was material Mr. Azik had learned as a history professor or knowledge brought by his memories as the Death Consul.
In any case, Luo Lin had come out ahead.
"Many of your views are also quite interesting. They've given me some new insights." Mr. Azik smiled gently. After taking a sip of coffee, he seemed to recall something and asked, "Have you still been helping Klein investigate matters concerning the Antigonus Family and The Fool?"
Compared with Klein, Mr. Azik was somewhat interested in such matters, but not overly so. Coupled with his busy work schedule, he had not kept up with the investigation's later progress.
Luo Lin nodded at that and said with a smile, "Klein is a good friend of mine, and I'm also very interested in these matters. By the way, I've recently been investigating the Abraham Family too. They were also a great aristocratic family of the Fourth Epoch. Have you heard of them, Mr. Azik?"
"Abraham..." Mr. Azik's hand, which had been stirring his coffee, paused. A contemplative expression appeared on his face, and only after several seconds did he say, "I only remember that their ancestor seemed to have been called Mr. Door."
"Mr. Door..." Luo Lin appropriately showed a stunned expression, then said as if enlightened, "So that's what Door means."
"Thank you, Mr. Azik. You've cleared up some of my doubts," Luo Lin added.
"No need to thank me. I haven't really helped much." Mr. Azik shook his head gently.
As if he had thought of something, Luo Lin gave Mr. Azik a thoughtful look. He then glanced around and, after confirming that no one else was in the office, lowered his voice. "Mr. Azik, do you... do you also know something about mystical powers?"
Faced with the blunt question, Mr. Azik fell silent for several seconds. He had probably not expected Luo Lin to charge in so boldly, but he did not deny it. He merely said gently, "I do know a little about the mystical domain."
"I knew it..." Luo Lin showed an expression that said, Just as I thought, then asked with excitement and anticipation, "I'm a Seer. What pathway are you, Mr. Azik?"
This time, Mr. Azik was truly silent. Though over the past few days of interaction, he had already seen that Luo Lin was somewhat simple-minded and inexperienced in worldly affairs, he had never expected Luo Lin to just expose himself like that.
Amused, Mr. Azik could not help but warn him, "Do not casually tell others your Sequence. It is very dangerous."
Although he had recovered few memories, Mr. Azik still knew one thing: in battles within the Beyonder domain, intelligence was crucial. No matter how powerful a Beyonder was, once others knew their Sequence, they could be targeted.
"I didn't tell just anyone. You're not a bad person, Mr. Azik," Luo Lin muttered softly. "If it were someone else, I definitely wouldn't say it. I'm not stupid."
"I imagine you also told Klein about this," Mr. Azik said gently and calmly.
Luo Lin's eyes suddenly widened. He looked at Mr. Azik, seeming to realize something, and revealed an enlightened expression. "Right! Mr. Azik, you've known Klein for so long. You must know about each other's circumstances." Who could watch that performance without calling him an award-winning actor?
