The two men looked at each other, cowardice showing in their eyes. They had already lost the will to fight.
Just then, the man driving the carriage suddenly roared angrily and leaped down from it. He moved with surprising agility, raised one foot, and kicked one of the black-clad men aside, snatching Lillisa from him. At the same time, he drew a revolver from his waist and pressed it against Lillisa's temple, shouting harshly, "You meddlesome old fool, get out of my way, or I'll blow this little brat's head off!" He then shouted at the two black-clad men beside him, "You two idiots, we kidnapped a noble lord's daughter! What do you think will happen if she falls into his hands? We've got no way out now except to fight to the bitter end!"
So the carriage driver was the leader!
The two black-clad men were caught between advancing and retreating. They did not dare attack the mage, but neither did they want to surrender without a fight.
At that moment, Green also hurried over from behind. A chill flashed through his eyes. He raised his staff and pointed it forward, immediately casting Bone Spikes.
Green was about five or six meters from the kidnapper leader, well within Bone Spikes' casting range. However, this casting was different. After his recent hard practice, Bone Spikes had reached [LV5], and Green had developed many new applications for it.→ Seeing Lillisa being held hostage, he knew that ordinary Bone Spikes would create a whole patch of spikes and certainly injure the hostage. This time, Green summoned only a single bone spike. It accurately appeared above the kidnapper leader's head, then plunged down with a bang, piercing through his crown and emerging between his legs.
Everything happened too suddenly. The kidnapper leader had no time to react, and before he could even cry out, he was skewered like candied hawthorn. As the spike scattered and vanished, blood, brains, and excrement sprayed rapidly from the wound. Most notably, the spike had severed the carotid artery at the top of his head, causing blood to fountain upward like a little spring. It splashed all over the two black-clad kidnappers beside him and scared them witless.
Lillisa, on the other hand, was even quicker on the uptake. She immediately broke free and ran toward Doctor Wilkins.
Green had just been about to sigh in relief after seeing his attack strike true when an unexpected change occurred. The two black-clad kidnappers, who had been scared stupid, suddenly grunted and clutched their heads, seemingly in great pain. At the same time, a pale-green magical glow spread across their bodies.
"Not good! It's Demonic Beast Parasitism!" Doctor Wilkins caught Lillisa as she ran over. The moment he saw the green light appear over the two men, his expression changed, and he shouted a warning to Green. He then fired an Arcane Missile with unusual decisiveness. With a boom, it blasted the carriage cabin to pieces.
Generally speaking, a mage had to be nearby to control a demonic beast using this kind of Demonic Beast Parasitism magic. The most likely place for the mage to be was that carriage.
Meanwhile, the two kidnapped men possessed by demonic beasts no longer looked human. Their skin split open, their bodies hunched over, and the palms and wrists of both arms transformed into two dark-red blades. The two leaped into the air, soaring three or four meters high. One charged toward Doctor Wilkins, while the other pounced straight toward Green.
Across the street, about twenty meters away, on the second floor of a roadside building, a sinister-looking man glared viciously at the battle in the distance. He wished he could tear Doctor Wilkins and Green, who had ruined his plans, into a thousand pieces. Unfortunately, he was only an Intermediate Magic Apprentice. Doctor Wilkins alone could beat him into a state where he could barely care for himself, and he needed to flee at once. Otherwise, once the battle ended and they followed the clues to find this place, it would be too late for him to leave!
"You two meddlesome bastards actually dared ruin our Tower of Yin Spirits' business. Just wait and see—I'll be back!" the man muttered viciously. "But since you forced me to activate my parasitic demonic insects, don't think you'll have an easy time either. My Demonic Insect Parasites aren't so easy to deal with..."
However, before he could finish speaking, the man's expression suddenly changed drastically. He stared at the window in stunned disbelief, as if something unimaginable had happened!
In the next instant, a sudden Arcane Missile smashed straight through the window and made intimate contact with the treacherous fellow who had only dared hide in the shadows.
With a boom, the Arcane Missile exploded. Its powerful impact and explosive force were even greater than those of an ordinary cannon. It directly blasted down the wall around the window and blew the man standing beside the bed to pieces, leaving him not the slightest hope of survival.
On the other side, the Demonic Insect Parasites in which the man had placed such high hopes were being mobbed by eight fully armed elite Skeleton Soldiers.
When Green had noticed the two black-clad men beginning to transform, he had sensed that something was wrong. Doctor Wilkins had far more experience and recognized the Demonic Beast Parasitism at a glance. He blasted the carriage apart but failed to find the mastermind. Green could no longer hold back his strength. He immediately summoned all his Skeleton Soldiers, tying down the two Demonic Insect Parasites while leaving Doctor Wilkins to find the enemy hidden nearby.
Doctor Wilkins truly lived up to his reputation as a veteran powerhouse of Landon City and a ruthless figure preparing to advance to Formal Mage. He quickly found the right direction, then struck even harder. A single Arcane Missile nearly blasted down the building where the enemy was hiding.
Hearing the commotion, Green glanced back and could not help feeling his scalp prickle. He thought, Is this the strength of an Advanced Apprentice Mage of the Evocation School? This is far too over-the-top—he's practically a humanoid self-propelled cannon! And this is only a mage apprentice. If he were a Formal Mage, or even an Archmage, what kind of magnificent power would he wield? Could he casually throw out a nuclear bomb?
His heart filled with emotion, and Green yearned even more intensely to become a higher-level supernatural being.
At the same time, Doctor Wilkins' smug voice rang out: "Hmph! You sneaky cur who knows nothing but hiding your head and showing your tail—did you really think Lord Wilkins couldn't find you just because you hid there?"
Green watched Doctor Wilkins lower his staff with some envy. Only a mage of the Evocation School could produce such violent firepower. A Necromancer could never do it.
Yet while Green was envying someone else, he likewise received an envious look from Doctor Wilkins.
Doctor Wilkins withdrew his staff and was about to help Green deal with the two Demonic Insect Parasites. When he was young, he had encountered a similar situation. Back then, a single Demonic Insect Parasite had slaughtered a thirteen-person Junior Apprentice squad. Doctor Wilkins knew Green's background. He had only recently become a Necromancer and certainly could not deal with them. In his view, it would already be good if Green's undead creatures could delay them for a few seconds.
Who could have known that when he turned his attention to the battle, it was already over!
The two Demonic Insect Parasites lay miserably on the ground, barely breathing. Their bodies were covered in dark-red bloodstains, and they looked utterly wretched. Green's Skeleton Soldiers, meanwhile, had paid only a minor price. Not a single one had even been lost in battle. Were these really those fragile Skeleton Soldiers?
A moment later, Green recalled his Skeleton Soldiers. The two Demonic Insect Parasites were already dead beyond dead.
What delighted him even more was that the instant he killed the Demonic Insect Parasites, a notification announcing the discovery of Psychic Energy came from the Graveyard!
Green hurriedly bent down and pretended to inspect the corpses, when in fact he was looting them. He obtained a total of six points of Psychic Energy, bringing the total Psychic Energy stored in the Graveyard to [35].
