Not to mention that Zhang Yang lacked the seniority and was still a newcomer.
If Zhang Yang really became the senior brother, he would absolutely be second only to one person in Kamar-Taj.
How many days had Zhang Yang even been here?!
A newcomer receiving such an honor the moment he arrived—wouldn't that send him soaring into the sky?
"Senior Brother, you can't be so impulsive!" Wong said earnestly, his face full of genuine concern.
He thought Mordo meant to give Zhang Yang the position of senior brother.
He had completely failed to realize that Mordo was taking this seriously.
The meaning between the lines was obvious: Mordo simply didn't believe it.
Wong really was too straightforward.
He nearly made Mordo spit up blood from sheer anger.
"Junior Brother! How could I possibly give Zhang Yang the position of senior brother?!" Mordo calmed himself down. With the Sorcerer Supreme, The Ancient One, still present, the furious words he had wanted to unleash were filtered through layer after layer of restraint before turning into a sigh.
Sigh—
"Wong, go bring Zhang Yang here."
At last, The Ancient One could no longer stand watching and spoke up at just the right moment to smooth things over.
More importantly, she truly feared that Wong's personality might anger Mordo to death.
Wong was so straightforward that even The Ancient One got angry with him sometimes.
And he had absolutely no idea there was anything wrong with what he said.
For example, right now.
As soon as The Ancient One finished speaking, Wong hurriedly said, "But Sorcerer Supreme, if I bring Zhang Yang here and prove that what I said is true, wouldn't the senior brother become Zhang Yang?"
Mordo: ...
The Ancient One: ...
The other sorcerers: ...
The Ancient One simply could not understand how Kan had produced such a blockheaded descendant.
Kan had lived over a thousand years ago and was a gifted monk from the East.
During his travels, he had experienced too much deception and darkness. He swore to seek out and protect the righteous magical power on Earth, and eventually encountered The Ancient One.
From then on, Kan's entire family, including his descendants, had served the Sorcerer Supreme.
That was why The Ancient One trusted Wong so deeply.
To put it plainly, if Wong were not Kan's descendant and did not have such a family behind him—
The Ancient One would never want anything to do with someone with his personality.
Although The Ancient One had lived long enough to become indifferent to worldly matters, if she could be happier, why would she make herself uncomfortable?
"I have my own decision. Just go bring him here." With a sigh in her heart, The Ancient One still spoke to Wong calmly.
It was an order from the Sorcerer Supreme, after all.
Wong bowed. "Yes."
After returning to his dormitory, Zhang Yang had been pondering Fear Magic.
He felt that this magic was especially useful.
On the way back, he had heard that the alien army had been scared off.
It seemed the effect was real.
Yet before he could think about it for more than a few seconds, Berkeley came to find him and told him to go to the Sanctum.
It was the Sorcerer Supreme's request.
The Sorcerer Supreme?
Wasn't that The Ancient One?
The strongest sorcerer in the world? A true powerhouse!
But... why did The Ancient One want to see him?
Could she be calling him in to hold him accountable for what happened with Odin?
It would be a lie to say he was not nervous, but he was not particularly afraid either.
It was just that Zhang Yang did not know what kind of personality The Ancient One had, so he felt a little uneasy.
After straightening his clothes, Zhang Yang followed Berkeley to the Sanctum.
The Sanctum's doors were closed.
Once they reached the entrance, Berkeley gestured for Zhang Yang to go in himself. After saying that, he turned to leave.
"Senior Brother, aren't you going in?" Zhang Yang asked Berkeley.
"Do you think the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum is somewhere anyone can just enter?" Berkeley said sternly.
Did Zhang Yang think this was a marketplace?
Only a sorcerer at the level of Sanctum Sorcerer or above could enter!
After Berkeley put it that way, Zhang Yang felt it made sense.
Just as he was about to go inside, Zhang Yang suddenly seemed to remember something and asked Berkeley, "But Senior Brother, there's something I want to ask. What level are you at in Kamar-Taj?"
Zhang Yang had wanted to ask this for a long time.
After all, he had never seen Berkeley truly fight.
"I..." Berkeley looked at Zhang Yang. He had originally wanted to put on airs, but then he remembered that the Sorcerer Supreme had returned, so there was no point in keeping up appearances.
So Berkeley said to Zhang Yang, "Let me tell you. In Kamar-Taj, a sorcerer's rank is determined by their clothes."
"Generally speaking, plain monk robes are worn by Apprentices, dark blue monk robes by Apprentice Sorcerers, crimson monk robes by Master Sorcerers, yellow monk robes by Arch-Sorcerers, and black-and-red monk robes by Sanctum Sorcerers. We dress this way to make distinctions easier. Other than that, Kamar-Taj doesn't have many other rules."
There was no hiding it anymore.
Zhang Yang suddenly understood. "So, Senior Brother, you're only an Apprentice Sorcerer. You're at the same level as me now."
What did he mean, only?
Berkeley felt like crying.
Did Zhang Yang think becoming an Apprentice Sorcerer was easy?
Did he think teaching Apprentices was easy?!
He did not want to teach Apprentices either. He had only been forced into it.
But with Berkeley's strength, he was more than qualified to teach Apprentices.
It was just that he had never expected to encounter a monstrous Apprentice like Zhang Yang.
"What's wrong with being an Apprentice Sorcerer? An Apprentice Sorcerer is more than capable of teaching a beginner who has just started out." Berkeley could not help rolling his eyes at Zhang Yang.
"That's true. Don't worry, Senior Brother, I definitely don't mean to look down on you. After all, you were the one who taught me the basics of magic." Zhang Yang grinned.
"So, Senior Brother, am I easy to teach?"
Easy to teach?!
What the hell? You were the hardest person to teach in all of Kamar-Taj!
Sometimes, being too talented was a mistake too!
"Junior Brother, don't blame me for not warning you. There are plenty of highly talented and powerful sorcerers in Kamar-Taj!"
Worried that Zhang Yang might become too full of himself, Berkeley reminded him, "And the enemies we face are all incredibly powerful. Some are even multiversal-level powerhouses! So you must study magic properly! Never become arrogant! Cultivation is about cultivating the heart!"
Berkeley's reminder came from good intentions and concern.
Zhang Yang understood that.
He knew it well too.
"Yes. Thank you for your guidance, Senior Brother." Zhang Yang smiled modestly and pointed at the Sanctum. "Then I'll head in first, Senior Brother."
"Mm."
Berkeley nodded and turned to leave.
Zhang Yang took a deep breath and looked at the Sanctum, feeling unexpectedly uneasy.
Although Zhang Yang had already met Odin.
The Ancient One was different.
After all, everyone in Kamar-Taj spoke of The Ancient One with reverence.
Especially since Zhang Yang had made a mistake and opened a Portal to Asgard.
I hope she isn't calling me in to settle the score. Zhang Yang muttered cautiously.
Just as he raised his hand to push the door open, it opened on its own.
The ancient, ornate carved door creaked open, and Wong's face appeared before Zhang Yang.
"You're here."
As soon as the door opened, Wong spoke to Zhang Yang.
His tone made it seem as though he had known Zhang Yang was already outside.
After speaking, Wong stepped aside.
Including Wong, there were five sorcerers inside the Sanctum. Zhang Yang did not know most of them. After entering, he stood there foolishly, feeling as though he had walked into the principal's office.
"This is the one you were talking about?"
At that moment, a man in black monk robes stepped forward. With his hands behind his back, he looked at Wong and asked.
He frowned tightly as he examined Zhang Yang.
For some reason, Zhang Yang seemed to see traces of displeasure and disbelief in his expression.
"Yes, Senior Brother," Wong replied.
Then he introduced him to Zhang Yang. "This is our senior brother, Mordo."
Zhang Yang bowed to Mordo. "Senior Brother."
Mordo merely hummed in response and gave no further reaction.
Wong then continued introducing people to Zhang Yang.
"This is the Sorcerer Supreme."
This time, Wong pointed to a bald sorcerer seated cross-legged on a low couch in the center.
She wore white monk robes and held a small fan in her hand. She studied Zhang Yang with a peaceful expression and a faint smile. She looked like an immortal sage.
Just one look made it clear that she was surely an extraordinary master.
She was the Sorcerer Supreme, after all.
Her bearing was absolutely impeccable.
"Your Eminence." Zhang Yang bowed.
"Mm." The Ancient One looked at Zhang Yang, nodded, and responded.
After examining Zhang Yang, The Ancient One slowly spoke. "Earlier, in New York, was it you who used Fear Magic to scare off the Chitauri army?"
Before you continue
