There was no such thing as Fear Magic at Kamar-Taj.
But Wong had previously told The Ancient One that he had made it up. Though she did not know why Wong, a man who never lied, would fabricate a spell.
Still, The Ancient One chose to conceal it.
She merely felt that Wong naturally had his own reasons for doing so.
"Yes." Zhang Yang nodded neither humbly nor arrogantly.
Then he added, "However, this disciple is ignorant. At present, I can only make others feel fear. I cannot yet disrupt their minds or mentally annihilate an enemy."
Zhang Yang had told The Ancient One this because she had brought up the matter.
He thought his execution had not been good enough, which was why she had summoned him.
Otherwise, why would The Ancient One, as the Sorcerer Supreme, call for him for no reason?
And the first thing she did was ask him that question.
So Zhang Yang hurried to admit his own fault first.
Say what the other person wanted to say, leaving them with nothing to say. That way, they would not lecture him anymore.
That was what Zhang Yang thought.
What Zhang Yang did not know was that
his words had inadvertently become a boast.
And that boast
made Mordo snort and sneer. "Heh. You brat really do not know your place!"
How dare he lie in front of the Sorcerer Supreme?
Where did Kamar-Taj get any Fear Magic?
"As an apprentice, your intentions are already so impure! Supreme Master, if someone like him remains at Kamar-Taj, he will surely be seduced by Dormammu in the future!"
Chapter 44
Zhang Yang always felt that this senior brother named Mordo seemed to have some prejudice against him.
Did not know his place?
Impure intentions?
Although Zhang Yang had only been at Kamar-Taj for a week,
everyone he had met had been quite nice and friendly.
Why was Mordo different?
Could he be the sort of villain often mentioned in novels?
The kind everyone hated?
But Zhang Yang did not know that, in Mordo's eyes, he was a novice mage full of lies who did not know his place.
Kamar-Taj simply did not have Fear Magic!
How could he possibly have learned it?
He had only been here for a week, yet he claimed his magical energy was so powerful that it could scare off an army of Chitauri?
Did he really think magic was that easy to learn?
"Senior Brother Mordo, I think you have a prejudice against me." Zhang Yang bluntly voiced what was on his mind.
Without concealing it in the slightest.
All the mages present were dumbfounded.
An apprentice dared to openly confront the senior brother?
At Kamar-Taj, Zhang Yang was the first!
"What prejudice? You—"
"Your name is Zhang Yang?"
After Zhang Yang's blunt retort, Mordo had originally intended to reprimand him, but The Ancient One suddenly spoke.
The Ancient One interrupted Mordo, forcing him to swallow the rest of his words.
"Yes." Zhang Yang ignored Mordo and turned his gaze toward The Ancient One.
"You just said you learned Fear Magic, but your cultivation is lacking, so you can only make people feel fear, correct?" The Ancient One looked at Zhang Yang. Her faintly smiling face revealed no emotion as she said, "Try it. Let me see where the problem lies."
The Ancient One truly was an old fox who had lived for a long time.
Her words were flawless.
On the surface, she seemed to be offering to teach Zhang Yang magic.
But in reality, she wanted to see Zhang Yang's abilities.
The Ancient One naturally understood Wong's intentions.
That was why she had phrased it that way.
However, she was not doubting Wong's words. After all, Odin had previously come to take Zhang Yang away.
That proved Wong's words were highly credible.
The Ancient One merely wanted to see just how advanced Zhang Yang's magic truly was.
"Alright."
Hearing that The Ancient One wanted to personally guide him, Zhang Yang felt a little excited.
He would definitely learn more from The Ancient One than from Wong and the others.
After all, every spell at Kamar-Taj had been passed down from The Ancient One!
Suppressing his inner excitement,
Zhang Yang took a deep breath and looked around.
He clasped his hands behind his back, his gaze turning sharp as he cast Fear Magic.
Powerful energy spread throughout the entire room.
Zhang Yang's gaze swept across everyone in the room.
Ruthless and resolute.
He was completely different from the meek little apprentice he had been moments ago.
The instant Zhang Yang unleashed Fear Magic, every mage present changed expression.
Their pupils abruptly dilated.
Including Mordo's.
It was a mixture of disbelief and profound terror welling up from the depths of their hearts.
As the magical energy grew stronger,
Mordo's expression gradually became vacant, and an inexplicable fear arose within him.
He tried using his own magical energy to suppress that force.
The other mages present did the same.
Invisible energies clashed and struggled against one another, with neither side willing to yield an inch.
If any powerful mage happened to pass by the Sanctum,
they would surely marvel at the formidable magical aura within.
But the magical energy Zhang Yang released was far too domineering.
So domineering that even Mordo was beginning to lose control.
Large beads of cold sweat continuously poured from his forehead, while the shock on his face never faded.
His hands also began to tremble involuntarily.
Mordo could hardly believe it.
This energy was astonishingly similar to the one that had driven back the alien army before!
An apprentice!
He actually possessed such powerful magical energy?!
And he had only been at Kamar-Taj for a week!
He was so powerful that Mordo was already struggling when confronting him?!
What exactly had Wong and Berkeley taught Zhang Yang?!
Damn it!
Had they raised a damn monster?!
Chapter 45
"That is enough."
Seeing the expressions on the mages' faces in the Sanctum worsening by the second,
The Ancient One, having roughly assessed Zhang Yang's magic, slowly spoke and told him to stop casting.
Otherwise, if Zhang Yang continued,
the Sanctum might lose control.
A group of Sanctum guardians being scared off by an apprentice in the end.
Would that not make it seem as though everyone The Ancient One had taught was useless?
Huff—
All the mages took deep breaths and secretly wiped the cold sweat from their foreheads.
Good, good, they had not embarrassed themselves!
If The Ancient One had not stopped him, they truly would have been unable to hold on much longer.
"Supreme Master, please instruct me." Zhang Yang withdrew his magic, bowed, and humbly sought guidance.
"There is a slight problem." The Ancient One spoke calmly.
This was not a slight problem.
There was a huge problem!
An apprentice!
His magical energy was this strong! So strong that he was nearly on par with the Sanctum guardians!
If he had truly accumulated this energy within a week, then Zhang Yang's future would undoubtedly be limitless!
His talent was even greater than Strange's!
Before Zhang Yang, Strange's talent could barely even be called talent.
If that were the case,
with a little more training, Zhang Yang could become the Sorcerer Supreme and defeat Dormammu.
What place would that leave for Strange?
That was what The Ancient One thought.
But there was now a difficult issue.
According to The Ancient One's observations, the future Sorcerer Supreme should be Strange, and the one capable of standing against Dormammu should also be him.
