Authority and Succession

Qian Juechen was denied the right to inherit the Papal Throne at age six because he had not awakened the Qian family’s Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul. On his return, he challenged the inconsistency of that decision: Bibi Dong had become Pope without inheriting the Angel Spirit either 7.

The Pope commands the Papal Palace and represents Spirit Hall publicly, but the office does not place its holder beyond the Worship Hall’s authority. While Bibi Dong was Pope, the Worship Hall issued a highest-level lockdown without informing her; the order restricted even Elder Hall members 10 11. After Qian Juechen’s victory, Qian Daoliu explicitly transferred authority over those bodies to the new Pope 18.

Symbols and Support

• Papal Palace — the seat and public symbol of the office. Qian Juechen damaged it during his challenge to Bibi Dong and ordered it rebuilt after taking power 10 11 18 23.
• Pope’s crown and scepter — worn and carried by Bibi Dong while she held the position 4 11.
• Yue Guan and Gui Mei — enforcers who served successive Popes: Qian Xunji, Bibi Dong, and, in Qian Juechen’s expectation, himself 23.
