Background / History

Qian Daoliu is Qian Xunji’s father and the grandfather of Qian Juechen and Qian Renxue. When Juechen awakened a martial soul other than the Qian family’s Six-Winged Angel, Daoliu and Xunji ruled him unfit to inherit the papacy. Juechen later left Spirit Hall without a word. His nearly twenty-year absence—and his failure to return when Xunji died—remained a source of anger and grief for Daoliu 3 7.

After Xunji’s death, Daoliu supported Bibi Dong’s appointment as Pope. He later explained that Juechen was absent, Renxue was too young to rule, and appointing her mother, then Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden, would help stabilize the organization. Daoliu had also concealed a wrong committed by Xunji and spared Bibi Dong after she killed him. He came to recognize that silence had allowed the conflict to deepen rather than resolve it 7 9.

When Juechen returned, Daoliu opened Worship Hall to him but tested his strength and resolve by placing Limit Douluo pressure on the mountain staircase. Juechen’s performance and extraordinary soul rings left him stunned and proud. Their reunion nevertheless remained strained: Juechen greeted him formally as “Grand Priest,” then challenged his decisions concerning succession, Renxue’s secret mission, and Xunji’s death 3 8.

Daoliu admitted that he had no satisfactory answer and gave Juechen leave to change Spirit Hall’s arrangements without interference. During Juechen’s battle with Bibi Dong, he remained conflicted over what her death would mean for Renxue. He repaired the battle’s containment formation when it cracked, then used Angel power to shield Spirit City’s civilians when Juechen’s final strike shattered it 9 14 16.

After the battle, Daoliu awarded Juechen Bibi Dong’s recovered soul bones and the Pope’s position. He ordered every Spirit Hall force, including Worship Hall and Elder Hall, to obey the new Pope, then withdrew to Angel Sacred Mountain. Unable to mend their relationship, he left Juechen room to govern independently 18.

Daoliu is described as a tall, imposing man whose face can betray little of what he is thinking 3.

Personality

Daoliu prizes duty and Spirit Hall’s stability, but his decisions are shaped by attachment to his family. He resents Juechen’s disappearance while feeling profound relief at his return; he regrets sending Renxue on a secret mission but hesitates to undo years of preparation. His reluctance to act against Bibi Dong is bound up with both his concealment of Xunji’s wrongdoing and his concern for Renxue 3 8 9 14.

He is capable of acknowledging failure. Rather than defend his past choices when Juechen confronts him, Daoliu accepts responsibility and allows his grandson to take a different course 9.
