Background / History

Chu Men dies after working overtime in his previous life and awakens bound in Joker’s cell at Arkham Asylum. Once the system activates, he kills Joker, massacres the inmates on Arkham’s second basement level, and escapes past Commissioner Gordon’s police cordon 1 2.

Calling himself Homelander, he takes over the Iceberg Lounge by forcing Penguin to submit. He then claims Penguin’s operations and expands his control through fear, killing rival crime bosses and requiring Gotham’s gangs to surrender their profits and assets 2 3 6 22 23.

Penguin’s efforts to draw Superman to Gotham lead to a dockside battle. Chu Men initially exploits Superman’s concern for bystanders; when Superman overpowers him, the Silver Age physique fragment reverses the fight. Chu Men attacks a passenger ferry to force Superman to shield its civilians, then defeats him before a worldwide audience 9 16 17 18 19 20.

After rejecting Lex Luthor’s proposed alliance, Chu Men destroys the LexCorp force sent to recover him. He spares Luthor only to use Spiritual Imprint on him, leaving LexCorp’s resources under the direction of a devoted servant 31 33 34 35.

Appearance

Chu Men has black hair and a muscular build after receiving his powers. He is described with pale skin during his fight with Superman 1 7 18.

Personality

Chu Men associates power with freedom from the poverty, humiliation, and obedience of his former life. He rejects legal and moral limits, openly arguing that power itself determines the rules 3 17 19.

He enjoys provoking opponents who might challenge him. He lets Batman escape because an immediate kill would be boring, urges Superman to fight without restraint, and grows disappointed when Gotham’s gangs submit without rebelling 11 17 26. His rule is also deliberately cruel: he uses public killings and humiliation to secure obedience, and treats the heroes’ fear of him as entertainment 20 22 50.
