Background and History

Yuan Yu grew up in Spirit City under the care and scrutiny of the Worship Hall and Papal Hall. At six, he awakened the unprecedented nine-pattern Sun Wheel Blade and innate level-twenty Soul Power. Nine elemental gods then placed the Ten Thousand Manifestations Nine Trials upon him, sealing his power until he advanced through their challenges. His first trial required him to save people from a flood in the Water God’s illusion 1 3 5 7 8.

Ling Yuan, Azure Luan, and other Spirit Hall elders supervised his childhood training. Yuan Yu later joined Spirit Hall Academy, sparring with Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan. At twelve, he received permission to leave Spirit City for Suotuo City, prompted in part by recurring dreams of Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Shrek. Ling Yuan and Azure Luan were assigned to watch over him secretly 9 12 16.

At Shrek Academy, Yuan Yu became a teammate of Tang San and Xiao Wu while retaining his ties to Spirit Hall. Those loyalties came into conflict when Spirit Hall targeted Tang San and when Xiao Wu’s identity as a transformed soul beast became public. Yuan Yu opposed attacks on his companions and pressed for investigation and accountability rather than blaming an entire faction 18 150 152 167.

He later intervened to stop Qian Renxue’s palace coup without allowing her to be killed, completed the trial that separated his blade from the Wheel, and cooperated with Tang San on investigations involving both Spirit Hall and the Tang Sect 187 190 220.

Appearance

Yuan Yu commonly wears white, carries his blade, and keeps a wine gourd at his waist 9 12.

• Sun Wheel Blade: Its nine markings initially display distinct auras; the final pattern is not visibly colored at awakening 2.

Personality

Yuan Yu is quick with jokes, especially when elders scold him about training, damaged property, or wine. He is also willing to admit fear: he accepts the nine trials because he does not want to regret choosing only the safer path 2 8 9.

In combat, he favors control over unnecessary injury, often striking with his sheath or the flat of his blade. His stated principle is to protect innocents and hold the people responsible for wrongdoing accountable, regardless of whether they belong to Spirit Hall or Shrek 10 12 92 168 187.

Yuan Yu’s Tool Martial Soul provides elemental powers through its patterns and teaches him corresponding Breathing techniques. His God-given rings and divine trials progressively unlock those powers 2 5 7.

• Scattered Form: Disperses the blade into elemental streams and reforms it elsewhere. Early tests establish a three-zhang range; it cannot attack while dispersed, carry Yuan Yu’s body, or free him from an area-wide restraint 108 118.
• Elemental absorption: Filters small amounts of unclaimed elemental Soul Power from the surroundings. It cannot absorb every type of power, and battlefield gains are limited 108.
