Background and History

Tohka remembers little about her origins. She says she was simply born and that AST attacks whenever she appears. She cannot control those appearances or the destruction they cause. After meeting Shido and Lingmeng, she asks them to name her; Shido chooses “Tohka” from the date they met, April 10 14 15 21.

During an outing in Tengu City, Tohka begins to enjoy the human world but worries that she has no right to live in it. Shido and Lingmeng urge her to choose her own future. When Shido takes a sniper’s bullet meant for her, she believes he has died and attacks Origami in grief. Shido’s return stops her rampage, and their kiss seals her powers 21 22 23.

Ratatoskr later arranges for Tohka to live temporarily at Shido’s house: confinement after the sealing could worsen her mood, while his presence helps keep her calm. She also attends Raizen High School 63 69.

Appearance

Tohka has long purple hair. At school she wears a Raizen High girls’ uniform; in combat she can manifest an Astral Dress 17 96 205.

• Inverse form: Black armor with purple gleams at the shoulders and waist, dark gauze across her chest and lower body, and a pitch-black greatsword 400.
• Disguise: She once wore a boys’ summer uniform and tied her hair in a ponytail to try to join Shido’s school group 205.

Personality

Tohka is direct and curious, openly rejecting names she dislikes and eagerly exploring unfamiliar food and customs. She has a large appetite and enjoys praise and head pats 14 18 19.

AST’s repeated attacks leave her wary of strangers. As she learns what her appearances do to the world, that wariness becomes guilt about whether she should remain in it 17 21. She is deeply attached to Shido: she risks danger to find or protect him, but can become jealous when she believes he prefers someone else 75 77 275.

Sandalphon

Tohka’s Angel is a sword drawn from a summoned throne. She wields it with expert swordsmanship and can project sword waves 16 91 351.

• Last Sword: Fragments of the throne join the blade, forming a sword more than ten meters long. Its stored energy becomes dangerous if left unreleased 22 23.
• Limit: Ellen shatters Sandalphon during their fight, temporarily leaving Tohka unable to summon it again 271 273.

Astral Dress and physical strength

Her Astral Dress protects her from gunfire and flying glass; she later manifests a Limited Astral Dress while her powers are sealed 15 96. Even without relying on her sword, she can crack thick ice with a punch 172.

Inverse form and Nahema

In her Inverse form, Tohka wields the Demon King Nahema. The transformation increases her power but leaves her cold, aggressive, and unable to recognize her friends at first 400 401 402.

• Sword of the End: A black throne breaks apart and merges with Nahema, enlarging it into a greatsword more than ten meters long 406.
