Background / History

Origami is Shido Itsuka’s classmate and an AST fighter. During AST’s first clash with Tohka, she is the last member of her unit still able to fight. She later enters Shido’s classroom alone to attack Tohka, apparently disobeying orders 10 16. Her hostility toward Spirits is bound to the deaths of her parents five years earlier 189 190.

Origami discovers that Qian Lingmeng is the Spirit known as Element Maker. She initially refuses Shido’s plea to help Lingmeng during a DEM assault, but agrees when she learns a bomb threatens Tengu City. Working with Ratatoskr’s team, she draws on her military bomb-disposal training and cuts the wire that defuses it 49 53.

After AST footage reveals that the Spirit Efreet looks exactly like Shido’s sister Kotori, Origami takes the experimental White Lycoris without authorization and attacks her 188 190. Lingmeng stops Origami from killing Kotori. Shido says Kotori is innocent, but Origami demands evidence; White Lycoris reaches its operating limit before she can continue the fight 190 192 193. Lingmeng then takes Origami to observe the events of five years earlier. Origami sees that Kotori was turned into a Spirit and eventually realizes Kotori could not have killed her parents, although the attacker’s identity remains unknown 194 195. Origami accepts responsibility for using White Lycoris and receives one month of confinement 196 200.

At the Tengu Festival, Origami learns that a DEM-led operation will target Shido and several Spirits amid civilian crowds. She uses White Lycoris again, disabling much of the attacking force before the machine’s strain leaves her badly injured. Lingmeng removes her from the battle and arranges for AST captain Ryoko Kusakabe to find her 322 338 339 342.

Despite her injuries and suspended access to AST equipment, Origami leaves the hospital when she learns Shido is at DEM’s Japan Branch. Using modified equipment supplied by Mikie, she helps Mana and fights Ellen Mira Mathers. Origami wounds Ellen with a hidden blade but collapses soon afterward; Ryoko finds and treats her 380 390 391 393.

Appearance

Origami has shoulder-length white hair and dark-blue eyes. At school she wears the Raizen High uniform; in combat she wears a Connection Suit and Realizer 227 307 327.

Personality

Origami usually speaks with a flat voice and shows little outward emotion. She is persistent in combat, willing to act without authorization, and accepts responsibility when caught 16 196 296. Her fixation on Shido is far less restrained: she calls herself his girlfriend or future wife, monitors him, and treats other girls as rivals 30 103 160. She can nevertheless set that rivalry aside when she believes Shido’s safety or the city is at stake 49 166.

• With standard AST equipment, Origami is stronger than the average AST member, but initially cannot defeat Tohka alone 10 48.
