Power Progression

The documented tiers and variant below come from the Goblins Rain encounters and the bloodlines he acquires; the Cold-Enhanced Goblin is a mutant, not a demonstrated successor to the Goblin Warrior.

Appearance

Ordinary Goblins are small, green-skinned creatures. Their bloodline portrait shows a frail figure with sharp teeth and drool at its jaws 1 2.

• Goblin Warrior — more muscular than an ordinary Goblin; depicted wearing leather armor and a shoulder guard 2.
• Cold-Enhanced Goblin — the mutant encountered near Oak Village wore a filthy linen coat 5.

Abilities & Skills

Numbers and equipment

• An ordinary Goblin has a Challenge Rating of one-eighth. Individually, most are poor fighters, but they become substantially more dangerous in groups 4 12.
• Goblins encountered near Oak Village carried a short dagger, wooden club or spear. Larger populations can include archers and other ranged fighters 1 5 13.
• Groups of 20–50 may include Goblin Warriors and shortbow users; their combined Challenge Rating can reach one to two 24.

Rapid Reproduction

• The Common Goblin bloodline’s Rapid Reproduction Lv. 2 allows reproduction with the vast majority of mammals without reproductive isolation. Its description also specifies multiple fertilization, strongly dominant offspring traits and rapid growth 1.
• Rain’s fused Goblin Warrior bloodline raises the talent to Lv. 3 3.

Goblin Warrior traits

• Robust Lv. 1 increases both Strength and Agility by one point in Rain’s status panel 3.
• Dim-Light Vision Lv. 1 lets Rain see clearly in dim light for approximately 30 meters 3.

Cold-Enhanced Goblin traits

• Freezing Ray is a Zero-Ring Spell. The mutant’s beam covered Thor’s arm, shoulder and chest in thick ice, leaving him unable to fight 5.
• Frost Affinity Lv. 1 increases the power of ice spells by ten percent and the speed of learning them by twenty percent 11.
• Rain cannot cast Freezing Ray after removing the mutant’s bloodline, despite retaining a faint impression of how to use it 11.

History

A band of Goblins raids the rice fields around Oak Village, ambushing Rain and wounding Gates. Rain kills four of them across the two encounters. The band also abducts Ruth and Lori, prompting villagers and the Oak Shield Adventurers to follow its tracks to a cave 1 2 4.

At the cave, a Cold-Enhanced Goblin disrupts the rescuers with Freezing Ray. Nia wounds its casting arm with an arrow; it flees, and Rain pursues and kills it. The remaining Goblins are defeated, and Ruth and Lori are rescued 5 6.

Rain later joins two Goblin-clearing missions. Neither small group contains a Warrior or another mutant, and he concludes that ordinary Goblin bloodlines no longer offer him a useful gain 13 31.
