Background / History

Grand is a longtime member of the Whistling Hunters. When the team takes Rain on for a Boarfolk bounty, Grand and Chris are assigned to hold the monsters at bay with shields while their companions attack 16. After a Boarfolk Warrior breaks Chris’s arm, Grand stays in front of him and tells Rain and Fabian to escape. Rain’s unexpected third Freezing Ray gives Grand an opening to strike the warrior with Blade Pierce, though the creature later catches his sword and knocks him away 19 20.

Grand praises Rain for staying to fight despite having joined the team only for that job. He supports Captain Leia’s decision to give Rain an extra share of the bounty 21 23. On a later bat hunt, Grand volunteers to stand beside Rain at the front of a narrow passage to spare Chris’s recovering hand; he kills three Giant Vampire Bats 34 35.

During team training, Grand spars with Rain and suggests changing their attack formation. He notes that he is more naturally suited to a hand-and-a-half sword than the heavy shield-bearing role he took after Illys left 40. In Azure Mine Cave, Grand helps hold the front line against Gray Dwarves. Their Gigantification overwhelms him and injures his shield arm, prompting Rain to charge the dwarf threatening him 48 49.

Grand is equipped as a shield-bearing swordsman. His gear changes with the team’s needs 14 40.

Personality

Grand is quiet and steady, but acts quickly when a teammate is in danger. He takes Chris’s place at the front during the bat hunt without waiting for an answer, and risks himself to cover Chris’s retreat from the Boarfolk Warrior 19 23 34. He also speaks up when a training drill exposes a weakness in the team’s formation 40.
