Background / History

Fabian serves in Leia’s adventuring party alongside Chris and Grand. During a Boarfolk hunt, he scouts the terrain and lures two Boarfolk onto wet ground so Rain can freeze it. When a Boarfolk Warrior attacks the party, Fabian risks a close-range Backstab against its neck. The wound is serious but not fatal, and the creature throws him aside 16 17 19.

After the fight, Fabian spots unusually fine stitching on the Warrior’s leather vest and fresh wounds likely caused by a warhammer. His observations help the party report a possible change within the Boarfolk clan to the Adventurers’ Association 21 22 23.

Fabian later helps clear a Giant Vampire Bat nest and welcomes Rain when he formally joins the Whistling Hunters. During the search for a missing adventurer squad near Azure Mine, Fabian identifies tracks, dismantles venom-and-alarm traps, and fights Gray Dwarves alongside Rain and Leia 35 36 40 43 50.

Backstab

A Rogue Combat Technique Fabian uses to strike from an opponent’s flank or rear 19 50.

• He wounds a Boarfolk Warrior’s neck, but misses the fatal artery; his dagger becomes trapped, leaving him exposed to a counterattack 19.
• In a coordinated attack on the Gray Dwarf Bingus, his strike cuts an artery in the target’s neck 50.

Scouting and trap disarming

• Scouts ahead and selects ground for the party’s Boarfolk ambush 16 17.
• Detects Kobold and human tracks in Azure Mine, then dismantles a cord-triggered trap designed to ring a bell and spill venom. He disarms another trap farther along the route 43.

Ranged combat

• Uses a hand crossbow and poisoned bolts in the Boarfolk hunt 17 19.
• Is familiar with both crossbows and shortbows, but normally carries only one ranged weapon. His hand crossbow leaves him unable to provide continuous cover when he runs out of bolts against the Gray Dwarves 48.

• Dagger — his close-combat weapon; he coats it with Paralysis Poison before fighting the Boarfolk Warrior 19 29.
• Hand crossbow — his usual ranged weapon on missions 36 48.
• Brightly colored throwing knives — carried on his leather armor and used as signals during the team’s focus-fire drills 40.

Relationships

• Leia — captain of the Whistling Hunters; she assigns Fabian scouting and attack roles 16 40.
• Rain — teammate whom Fabian welcomes into the party. Fabian backs Rain to win a shield spar against Chris and praises his contribution to the bat-nest mission 36 39 40.
• Chris — teammate and fellow hand-crossbow user; the two shoot down the young bats remaining after the main fight 36.
• Grand — teammate who intervenes when the wounded Boarfolk Warrior turns on Fabian 19.
