Ch. 481Fuyuki's grand stage (eight)
Key plot points and events
- BB escalates her fight against the Aozaki sisters by summoning the Sakura Five—powerful Alter Egos born from her discarded emotions. Meltryllis dissolves Touko’s shadow-cat weapon and projector with her Noble Phantasm.
- Touko sacrifices herself to release the familiars hidden inside her and hold off BB’s forces. Aoko freezes Passionlip and jumps from Fuyuki Bridge, but Jaguar Man unexpectedly rescues Emiya Shirou and carries him away. Aoko falls into the river, while BB fumes over losing Shirou.
- BB launches her plan to convert the world into data and rule humanity, claiming she will “solve” people’s problems by stripping away their senses, abilities, and freedom. Her grand speech is interrupted by a child’s question about what life means, and BB’s certainty falters.
- At Ryuudou Temple, Gilles de Rais, Roland, and Jeanne are studying how to summon more Jeannes. Francesca Prelati arrives, but Gilles’s spellbook briefly triggers his dark magic. Jeanne stops him by poking him in the eyes.
- Roland confronts Francesca, reveals enough of his unusual identity and powers to frighten her, then destroys her Spirit Origin and takes her spellbook. Using it, he reverses the deaths of the people Francesca sacrificed, since her removal from history changes the fate of her victims. Francesca’s own surviving remnant is left behind as a little boy.
Character developments and interactions
- Touko chooses to stay behind and spend her prepared resources protecting Aoko, while Aoko risks herself to save Shirou. Their affectionate, teasing sisterly bond remains evident even in danger.
- BB shifts from playful taunting to openly declaring herself humanity’s superior and intending to control people “for their own good.” The Sakura Five alternately aid her and mock her, especially Meltryllis, whose delight in BB’s discomfort exposes their strained, irreverent relationship.
- Jaguar Man unexpectedly becomes the decisive rescuer of Shirou, frustrating both BB and Aoko.
- Jeanne has grown more accepting and self-assured; she readily restrains Gilles and treats Roland’s revelations with less shock than Francesca does. Roland, meanwhile, demonstrates both formidable power and a willingness to undo the harm Francesca caused.
- Francesca, who had expected to observe and manipulate events safely, is forced to confront Roland’s power and is erased. Her arrival also prompts Roland to question why she dared antagonize him despite having once avoided Makiri Zolgen.
Significant themes
- Control versus autonomy: BB frames domination and mutilation as benevolent problem-solving, revealing the danger of treating people as objects to manage.
- Sacrifice and rescue: Touko gives herself time to protect Aoko; Aoko risks herself for Shirou; Jaguar Man’s intervention upends the apparent outcome.
- Identity and transformation: The Sakura Five embody BB’s rejected emotions, while Roland’s mysterious identity unsettles Francesca and Jeanne.
- History, death, and redemption: Roland’s use of Francesca’s spellbook alters the past and revives her victims, suggesting that removing evil can undo its consequences.
