Tang San opened his eyes and felt the changes in his body, overjoyed.
"Teacher, I've reached level twenty!" Tang San said excitedly.
The biggest change was in his appearance.
He was no longer thin and frail. His frame had grown much sturdier.
His skin had grown considerably fairer too.
He might not look quite as good as he would after awakening the Blue Silver Emperor Bloodline, but he was certainly striking among children his age.
"Good. Go back and consolidate your cultivation. Tomorrow, I'll take you to obtain your Second Soul Ring."
After taking the Tenfold Tonic Pill, Tang San's physique was more than strong enough to absorb a Thousand-Year Soul Ring.
"What? Brother San, you've already reached level twenty?"
In Dorm Seven, Xiao Wu stared at Tang San in surprise.
Tang San nodded with a smile. "Yeah. Teacher's taking me to obtain my Second Soul Ring tomorrow."
The others in Dorm Seven looked at him with admiration.
A second-year student at level twenty—this might be the only time in their lives they ever saw one.
Outside Dorm Seven, Yu Xiaogang had quietly hidden himself after seeing Tang San return. He heard what Tang San said too.
When Yu Xiaogang learned that Tang San had reached level twenty, envy and resentment burned inside him.
He should have been my disciple! Damn Ling Han! Damn him!
Yu Xiaogang made up his mind to wait outside Dorm Seven for Tang San to come out.
Sure enough, Tang San stepped outside a little later, ready to cultivate.
"Tang San!"
Yu Xiaogang called out to him.
Tang San stopped and turned around. When he saw Yu Xiaogang, his expression cooled.
"What do you want?"
Tang San had no intention of being polite to this clown.
Yu Xiaogang seemed not to notice Tang San's cold expression. Putting on an air of profound wisdom, he said, "Tang San, I hear you've reached level twenty? Your talent is passable, but your judgment when choosing a teacher leaves something to be desired."
Tang San frowned, his face darkening further.
To him, Ling Han was more than a teacher. He owed him a debt as great as the one he owed his parents.
How dare Yu Xiaogang say to his face that he had chosen his teacher poorly? He was insulting Ling Han.
Tang San clenched his fists, ready to strike at any moment.
"Gangzi, you're asking for death!"
Yu Xiaogang paid no attention to Tang San's expression and kept prattling on.
"Poor judgment is no great fault. Nobody makes the right choice every time. I can give you a chance to become my disciple. My theories are far more profound than anything that Ling Han knows. Under my guidance, you're certain to become a powerful Soul Master!"
Seeing how confident Yu Xiaogang was, Tang San almost laughed in anger.
"Are you finished?"
Yu Xiaogang turned to him with a confident look. "Well? Will you become my disciple? This is your only chance!"
The next moment, Tang San summoned his Martial Soul.
His First Soul Ring lit up beneath his feet, and a long blue staff appeared in his hand.
"Wh-what are you doing?"
Only then did Gangzi realize something was wrong. It was too late.
Smack!
Tang San brought the staff down across Gangzi's mouth.
One of Gangzi's teeth flew out. He clutched his mouth and stumbled back in pain, mumbling something unintelligible.
"Teacher was right. With people like you, you have to hit them in the mouth first. Then you don't have to listen to their nonsense!"
Tang San raised his staff and kept laying into Gangzi.
Gangzi hurriedly summoned his Martial Soul, Luo Sanpao.
Two yellow Soul Rings appeared beneath Gangzi's feet.
Yet despite being a level twenty-nine Soul Grandmaster, the pressure he gave off could not even match Tang San's.
"Fart... like thunder... blast the... earth!"
Gangzi mumbled the Soul Skill's incantation through his battered mouth and barely managed to activate it.
But the instant Luo Sanpao farted, a huge fan appeared in Tang San's hands.
Gripping its handle with both hands, Tang San swung hard. The gust blew the fart straight back, leaving Yu Xiaogang choking on his own stench.
The fan changed back into a long staff. Tang San gripped its end with both hands and swung it at Yu Xiaogang.
The full-force blow broke one of Yu Xiaogang's ribs.
Yu Xiaogang rolled across the ground in agony.
"You dared insult my teacher, Yu Xiaogang. You really are asking for death!"
Tang San could not hide his fury, and each blow came down harder than the last.
Gangzi was battered like a spinning top. Not one part of his body was left uninjured, and several of his ribs were broken.
Li Shan watched from nearby, torn over whether to intervene.
Just then, Ling Han appeared beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
The touch startled Li Shan; he had not sensed anyone approach.
Once he saw that it was Ling Han, he bowed respectfully.
"Don't worry, Headmaster. Xiao San knows when to stop. He won't beat the man to death."
With Ling Han saying that, what could Li Shan do?
In the end, Li Shan could only sigh helplessly and return to his office, pretending he had seen nothing.
Ling Han stayed where he was and continued watching Tang San beat Yu Xiaogang.
Tang San stopped only when Yu Xiaogang was barely clinging to life.
Without sparing him another glance, Tang San turned and left.
Yu Xiaogang lay there like a dead dog, with bones broken all over his body and only a thread of life left in him.
He could not understand what made Ling Han better than him, a grandmaster of theory.
Ling Han's cultivation was a little higher, his talent a little greater, and he was younger and better-looking. But didn't Yu Xiaogang have strengths of his own?
"Tang San... you'll regret... not becoming my disciple!"
Ling Han, standing nearby, nearly burst out laughing when he heard Yu Xiaogang mumble those words.
"Regret not becoming your disciple? He'd regret it for the rest of his life if he did."
Ling Han knew Yu Xiaogang would not die easily, so he had no intention of tending to him. He turned and left.
Tang San's performance had also shown Ling Han just how effective the pill he had given him was.
Next, he needed to take Tang San to find a suitable Soul Beast tomorrow.
Early the next morning, Tang San got up as usual to cultivate his Purple Demon Eye.
After taking the pill Ling Han had given him, his spiritual power had grown considerably and continued to increase each day.
That growth and his cultivation of the Purple Demon Eye reinforced each other.
Since taking the pill, Tang San could clearly feel that his Purple Demon Eye cultivation had sped up.
I'll spend the rest of my life repaying Teacher's kindness, Tang San silently vowed.
In Tang San's heart, he knew that without Ling Han, Yu Xiaogang might have fooled him into throwing away his future.
