Background / History

Yu Xiaogang leaves the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan to prove himself and refuses to return until he has achieved something. Although his father continues asking about him, Xiaogang avoids their reunion for years 30 31 65 66.

He previously shared a romantic relationship with Liu Erlong but abandoned her and stayed away for years. When they meet again, she has grown close to Qin Ming and no longer views Xiaogang with her former devotion 55 73.

At Nouding Academy, Xiaogang calls himself the Grandmaster and has a reputation for arrogance. After failing to recruit Tang San, he moves to Shrek Academy to seek another promising disciple through his old friend Flender 4 29.

Appearance

• Age and build: Introduced as middle-aged; Qin Ming later estimates that he looks nearly fifty. A later passage describes his frame as burly 4 31 81.

Personality

Xiaogang is intensely proud of his theoretical knowledge and treats the title “Grandmaster” as proof of authority. He refuses to reconsider his claims even when Ling Han demonstrates a first soul ring far older than his supposed limit. His arguments with Qin Ming likewise rely on insisting that his theories cannot be wrong 8 42.

He is possessive about talented students, repeatedly claiming that Tang San should have been his disciple despite Tang San choosing Ling Han. His interest in recruits is selective: he dismisses Oscar’s innate full soul power because Oscar is a Food System Soul Master, while Dai Mubai’s imperial background increases his interest 22 30 81.

His confrontational manner gives way to fear when an opponent can overpower him. He begs Ling Han for mercy, retreats when Qin Ming threatens him, and stops destroying furniture when Qin Ming warns that he will throw him out 13 73 81.

Xiaogang also expects personal relationships and family standing to secure obedience. He attempts to use his position as the clan leader’s son to have Qin Ming expelled from Blue Tyrant Academy, then demands that Liu Erlong choose between them 55.

Luo Sanpao

Xiaogang’s martial soul manifests as a Purple-Skinned Pig accompanied by two yellow soul rings 4 22.

Failed Recruitment at Nouding Academy

• First clash with Ling Han: Xiaogang demands an apology after colliding with him. Ling Han slaps him twice, freezes Luo Sanpao, and warns him to behave; afterward, Xiaogang avoids him around the academy 4.
• Approaching Tang San: Intervenes during the academy gatekeepers’ mistreatment of Tang San and examines his certificate. Privately, he sees Blue Silver Grass with innate full soul power as an opportunity to test his theory, but Ling Han takes charge of Tang San’s enrollment 5.
• Mandala Snake incident: Arrives with a snake pursuing him and proposes that Tang San kill it for his first ring. Ling Han exposes the flaw in his universal ring-age limit and orders Tang San to beat him 8.
• Continuing interference: Ling Han catches him cursing over Tang San’s development and frightens him by repeatedly dropping and catching him in the air. Later, Tang San severely injures him after another recruitment attempt accompanied by insults toward Ling Han 13 22.

Teaching at Shrek Academy

• Seeking a replacement disciple: Leaves Nouding after Ling Han takes Tang San and Xiao Wu away. At Shrek, he evaluates Flender’s students before reuniting with Yu Tianheng 29 30.
• Promising revenge through achievement: Assures Tianheng that his instruction will allow him to surpass Tang San 31.
