Background / History
Dugu Xin inherited his father Dugu Bo’s poison-based power, along with its harmful backlash. Accumulated toxins eroded his body and interfered with cultivation for years. When Li Qingshan discovers him at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Xin is convulsing in his father’s arms during a severe flare-up. Dugu Bo’s attempt to suppress it with Soul Power provides only momentary relief 29 30 39.
Li Qingshan stabilizes Xin with the Nine Needles for Suppressing Poison, protecting vulnerable areas and stopping the toxins from spreading. Xin remains unconscious, and the underlying poisoning is not yet resolved. Dugu Bo initially offers to have Xin study medicine and alchemy under Li as payment, but Li refuses: he wants Dugu Bo himself as his disciple 30.
After defeating Dugu Bo in a spar, Li begins a longer-term treatment that gathers Xin’s poison into a Poison Pill rather than stripping away his inherited poison abilities. Two days later, Xin can circulate Soul Power and run around the clearing without his former symptoms. His recovery fulfills Dugu Bo’s condition for accepting Li as his master 34 35 38.
Li recognizes Xin’s survival as a change from the original story, in which Dugu Bo eventually lost his son. Changing Xin’s fate earns Li a 100,000-year Void Nightmare Dragon Head Soul Bone 38 39 49.
Life After Treatment
- Meeting Yu Xiaogang: Xin accompanies his father and Li to Heaven Dou City. He respectfully greets Yu as his senior martial uncle because Yu joined Li’s lineage before Dugu Bo 42.
- Watching Sanpao evolve: Xin observes Luo Sanpao’s transformation from a distance. Dugu Bo shields him when the creature releases a burst of golden radiance 43 44.
- Interest in the dragon form: Xin tries to touch the flying Sanpao, who dodges his hand. Before Yu leaves for the Star Dou Great Forest, Xin asks to watch the transformation again upon his return 45 48.
- Continued recuperation: Xin remains in Heaven Dou City with his father, following Li’s prescribed treatment instead of joining the journey 48.
Appearance
- Hair and features: Dark green hair and a facial resemblance to Dugu Bo 29.
- During poison flare-ups: An unnatural blue-green complexion, convulsions, and blue-green lines moving beneath his skin 29 30.
- After treatment: The frightening discoloration disappears. Tiny serpent scales appear on the back of his hand when he circulates jade-green Soul Power 38.
Personality
After recovering, Xin eagerly demonstrates his painless Soul Power circulation to his father and gratefully follows Li Qingshan’s guidance. When Dugu Bo unexpectedly kneels to accept Li as his master, Xin is surprised but remains quietly respectful rather than interrupting 38.
Xin readily accepts the resulting martial-family hierarchy, bowing to Yu Xiaogang as his senior martial uncle. His curiosity about Sanpao’s dragon form shows a more playful side: he reaches toward the flying creature, laughs during the aftermath of its transformation, and asks to see it become a dragon again 42 45 48.
