History

Confrontation at Blue Tyrant Academy

Dugu Bo approaches Tang San in the woods near Blue Tyrant Academy and attempts to take him away. Tang San’s Hidden Weapons and Blue Silver Grass fail to stop him, even without Dugu Bo releasing his Martial Soul. When Liu Erlong intervenes, he dismisses her as a “mere Soul Saint” and seriously injures her with one palm strike 6.

Ling Yun challenges him in retaliation. Dugu Bo initially treats the younger fighter’s clones, speed, and water attacks as insignificant, but becomes serious when Ling Yun redirects part of his poison-laced attack through Heaven and Earth Reversal. The resulting Water Shuriken forces Dugu Bo back three steps, without overcoming him 7 8.

Dugu Bo then releases his full Soul Power pressure, rendering both Tang San and Ling Yun unconscious, and takes them away. He spares Liu Erlong; Ling Yun’s determination to shield her has stirred unspecified old memories 8.

From Captor to Medical Partner

At the Medicine Garden, Ling Yun accurately describes Dugu Bo’s concealed poison symptoms. Dugu Bo initially responds by seizing him by the throat, but listens once Ling Yun explains the danger to Dugu Yan. They bargain for treatment, safe release for both captives, and five medicinal plants as payment 9.

Ling Yun’s proposed Soul Bone treatment produces immediate relief in Dugu Bo’s right arm. Dugu Bo subsequently permits continuing access to the garden in exchange for managing his and Dugu Yan’s poison. His remaining doubts disappear after Ling Yun directs a successful treatment for his granddaughter, with Tang San supplying the herbs 10 12 13.

Assisting Ling Yun’s Fourth Soul Ring

Dugu Bo agrees to help Ling Yun obtain his fourth Soul Ring, although he questions the decision to pursue a ten-thousand-year beast. He leads Ling Yun and Tang San to the Mist Marsh, where a roughly 13,000-year-old Darkwater Shadow Leopard lives. He lets Ling Yun fight independently, then suppresses the wounded beast so Ling Yun can deliver the killing blow 13 14.

Before absorption, Dugu Bo offers to find a safer six- or seven-thousand-year alternative. Once Ling Yun proceeds, he watches over the absorption but cannot intervene in the beast’s mental Soul Shock. After Ling Yun succeeds, he asks to see the resulting Soul Skill, Mist Veil 15.

At their departure, Dugu Bo gives Ling Yun a token for returning to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and promises to bring Dugu Yan for another visit 16.

Appearance

  • Elderly man: Introduced as an old man wearing green 6.
  • Green hair: Ling Yun points to it while discussing the effects of lifelong poison cultivation 9.
  • Green Soul Power: His attacks and poisonous fumes manifest in green or dark-green hues 6 7 10.

Personality

Dugu Bo is intimidating, dismissive of weaker opponents, and quick to threaten anyone who intrudes on his affairs. He injures Liu Erlong for interfering, reacts violently when Ling Yun exposes his illness, and fiercely guards his medicinal plants 6 9 12.

His contempt can give way to genuine appreciation. Ling Yun’s borrowed-power counterattack interests him rather than simply angering him, and he later praises Ling Yun’s perception during the Darkwater Shadow Leopard hunt. Their exchanges remain abrasive, with Ling Yun’s jokes repeatedly provoking exasperation 8 13 14 16.

Dugu Yan’s wellbeing matters more to him than his own suffering or the cost of treatment. The possibility that she could inherit his chronic torment persuades him to negotiate, grant garden access, and trust Ling Yun’s medical judgment 9 10 12 13.

Abilities & Skills

Titled Douluo Soul Power

Dugu Bo’s strength vastly exceeds that of the students and teachers involved in his initial confrontation.

  • Disperses Tang San’s Hidden Weapons and breaks his Blue Silver Grass with a sweep of his sleeve, without releasing his Martial Soul 6.
  • Seriously injures Soul Saint Liu Erlong with a single palm strike 6.
  • Destroys Ling Yun’s Water Shadow Clones and disrupts Water Shurikens through raw Soul Power 7.
  • Uses full Soul Power pressure to knock Tang San and Ling Yun unconscious 8.
  • Pins down the wounded 13,000-year-old Darkwater Shadow Leopard with a casual burst of Soul Power 14.

Poison Arts

His poison cultivation is tied to the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor and is powerful enough to damage nearby vegetation 7 9.

  • Releases poisonous mist that causes plants to wither or curl 7 10.
  • Shapes dark-green Soul Power into a serpent-like attack 7.
  • Uses his high Soul Power to suppress the poison within his own body, but cannot thereby eliminate its underlying backlash 9.

Sunset Forest Knowledge

Dugu Bo has spent years roaming Sunset Forest and can identify suitable hunting grounds and Soul Beasts 14.

  • Locates the southeastern Mist Marsh and recalls the Darkwater Shadow Leopard’s speed, concealment, and explosive attacks 14.
  • Estimates the encountered leopard’s age at roughly thirteen thousand years 14.
  • Recognizes the danger of certain garden plants, but lacks Ling Yun and Tang San’s detailed knowledge of the Immortal Herbs 9 11 12.

Poison Backlash & Treatment

Decades of cultivation have mixed Dugu Bo’s poison with his Soul Power and allowed it to seep into his meridians, bones, flesh, and blood 9 10.

Aspect Details
Recurring symptoms Numbness and itching beneath both sides of the ribs, progressing to deep, needle-like pain 9.
Timing Attacks occur around noon and midnight; severe episodes last at least half an hour 9.
Aggravating conditions Damp, rainy weather worsens the symptoms, which have also intensified in recent years 9.
Temporary relief The opposing forces of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well suppress symptoms without curing the condition 9.
Rejected alternative Abandoning poison cultivation would remove the source of the illness, but Dugu Bo refuses to sacrifice his cultivation 9 10.
Accepted treatment Gradually extract poison from the body and store it in a Soul Bone, drawing it out when needed for battle 10.
Initial result After nearly half an hour, itching and stabbing pain in his right arm noticeably ease as poison leaves his meridians 10.
Expected course Ling Yun estimates that daily treatment could resolve eighty to ninety percent of his usual flare-ups within a few months; completion is not shown 10.

Equipment & Holdings

  • Soul Bone used for poison storage — Receives extracted poison during Ling Yun’s treatment; the initial successful transfer manifests in Dugu Bo’s right arm 10.
  • Medicine Garden — His property around the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, containing numerous rare medicinal plants and Immortal Herbs. Ownership remains his under the agreement with Ling Yun 11 12.
  • Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well — Provides temporary relief from his poison backlash and enables Ling Yun’s Ice and Fire Body Tempering 9 10.
  • Snake-head access token — A small, dark-green token given to Ling Yun so poisonous creatures around the well’s perimeter will not block his return, even in Dugu Bo’s absence 16.

Medicine Garden Agreements

Agreement Terms
Initial treatment payment Ling Yun receives five plants: Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass, Infernal Delicate Apricot, Aromatic Silk Beauty, Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, and Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum 9 10 11.
Continuing access Ling Yun may obtain more medicinal plants in exchange for ongoing poison care, but must tell Dugu Bo first and avoid stripping the garden bare 12.
Tang San’s harvesting requests Dugu Bo directs him to consult Ling Yun before collecting particularly valuable plants 12.

Relationships

  • Dugu Yan — Granddaughter and his greatest concern. He arranges her examination, insists she cooperate, and supports a treatment plan intended to prevent her from developing his severe backlash 9 12 13.
  • Ling Yun — Initially an opponent and captive, later his physician and resource-sharing partner. Dugu Bo exchanges herbs, garden access, and Soul Hunting assistance for treatment of himself and Dugu Yan 7 9 12 14 16.
  • Tang San — His original abduction target. Dugu Bo acknowledges his surprising abilities and medicinal knowledge, while favoring Ling Yun’s already-established treatment arrangement 6 8 11 12.
  • Liu Erlong — Injured while defending Tang San. Dugu Bo later leaves her alive after witnessing Ling Yun’s determination to protect her 6 8.
