Arc 37The Fall of Prospero

Lorgar raced to Prospero to stop Magnus’s Grand Spell, only to find himself caught in Tzeentch’s schemes and drawn into a battle that helped destroy much of the Webway. As Lorgar was taken to Colchis to recover, Horus began purging prisoners aboard the Vengeful Spirit, and Abaddon led a breakout.

  • Lorgar learned that Horus was gathering rebel Primarchs, then fought through Sothaviel’s time-bending Labyrinth and reached Prospero after three weeks had passed.
  • Lorgar confronted Magnus atop Prospero’s Pyramid, but Tzeentch’s illusion and manipulation delayed him while Magnus’s Grand Spell disrupted the Imperium’s Warp routes.
  • Lorgar joined the fighting on Prospero, killed Thousand Sons defenders, and pursued Magnus’s soul toward the Webway gate to Terra.
  • The Emperor empowered Lorgar to oppose Magnus and Tzeentch, but Alpharius’s use of the Tyrant Star distracted the Emperor and helped Tzeentch overwhelm them.
  • Lorgar fell gravely wounded as the Tyrant Star’s power broke through the Emperor’s Webway barrier, destroying passages though most personnel had been evacuated and roughly half the Webway remained intact.
  • Angron and Curze found Lorgar on Prospero, and Curze followed the Emperor’s instruction to take him to Colchis.
  • Horus ordered the Cleansing Plan aboard the Vengeful Spirit, targeting the Word Bearers and imprisoned warriors who had questioned him.
  • Abaddon, Torgaddon, and Loken broke the prisoners out of the Brig, and Kaebo warned Abaddon that Horus had betrayed the Imperium and begun a purge.
Chapters 902–926 Vol. 10 Read

Ch. 902Lorgar's gamble

Lorgar warned the Emperor to reinforce the Webway and sent five Ground-Based Wave Cannons for its defense. Suspecting Magnus might endanger the project, Lorgar diverted his main fleet toward Prospero, leaving Word Bearers with the Sons of Horus at risk.

  • Lorgar contacted the Emperor, teased him, and asked about the Webway’s construction progress.
  • The Emperor showed Lorgar the Webway, which was about one-third complete.
  • Lorgar ordered the Emperor to install five Ground-Based Wave Cannons and strengthen Webway security with Sisters of Silence and other trusted troops.
  • Lorgar ended the call and continued toward Prospero with his main fleet while another part of his fleet followed its original mission.
  • Lorgar suspected Horus could betray the Imperium but prioritized protecting the Webway and keeping Magnus under watch.

Ch. 903Remnants of the Rangdan Confederation?

The Emperor ordered Malcador to reinforce the Webway while worrying about Magnus and the lack of time. As Lorgar hurried toward Prospero, Royst reported missing Thousand Sons psykers, and Lion El'Jonson invited Lorgar to join the fight against Rangdan remnants, which Lorgar declined.

  • The Emperor told Malcador to send five Ground-Based Wave Cannons and Sisters of Silence to defend the Webway, then discussed Magnus's unusual behavior and their shortage of time.
  • Lorgar worried that the month-long journey to Prospero would leave too much time for events to unfold before he arrived.
  • Royst told Lorgar that several Beta-Level psykers among the Thousand Sons had disappeared and said he planned to investigate; Lorgar warned him not to act rashly.
  • Lion El'Jonson told Lorgar that Rangdan remnants had occupied several sectors and invited him to join the Dark Angels and Sons of Horus in attacking them.
  • Lorgar declined Lion El'Jonson's invitation because of painful memories of the Rangdan Xenocides and returned his attention to the route to Prospero.

Ch. 904Online Meeting

Horus convened a secret meeting of Primarchs to oppose the Emperor and create a new Imperium. After Magnus warned that he could delay Lorgar for only several weeks, Horus said he believed Lorgar would join them.

  • Horus opened a secret meeting aboard the Vengeful Spirit, and Fulgrim joined first, questioning the idea of rebellion.
  • Horus argued that they were resisting injustice and seeking a fairer Imperium, and Ferrus Manus joined and pledged to fight alongside Fulgrim.
  • Jaghatai Khan joined and mocked Fulgrim and Ferrus Manus before waiting for Horus to continue.
  • Magnus joined and warned that Lorgar was heading toward Prospero with the Word Bearers fleet, while his spell could hold him back for only several weeks.
  • Horus accepted Magnus's help and said he believed Lorgar would stand with them.

Ch. 905Lorgar was different

Horus argued that Lorgar would join his rebellion and assigned the Primarchs plans to isolate the Emperor’s strongest forces. After the conference ended, Horus remained alone, studying the galaxy-wide military situation.

  • Horus insisted that Lorgar’s principles would lead him to oppose the Emperor, while Fulgrim expected Angron and Curze to follow Lorgar’s lead.
  • Horus explained that Lion El'Jonson, Sanguinius, and Guilliman had been sent to the frontier, then identified the Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists as major threats.
  • Horus ordered Jaghatai and Fulgrim to support Olympia’s rebels, encircle Perturabo’s forces, and destroy as much of the Iron Warriors’ strength as possible.
  • Ferrus Manus volunteered to pin down Guilliman and the Ultramarines, while Magnus planned to hold Lorgar back with his Grand Spell.
  • The Primarchs withdrew from the meeting, leaving Horus alone before the star chart as he considered the military situation.

Ch. 906Lorgar, god of gamblers

Lorgar worried that nine Legions would rebel and planned for the Imperium’s defense while his Fleet was delayed by a warp storm. He gambled that Guilliman remained loyal and ordered an immediate call, but the storm blocked communications as the Fleet continued toward Prospero.

  • Lorgar learned the Fleet needed about twenty-three more days to reach Prospero and that Anna had returned with Rockefeller to defend Millennium World.
  • Seras warned that splitting the forces was risky and questioned Lorgar’s prediction that nine Legions would rebel.
  • Lorgar explained how Horus might isolate loyal Legions and identified the Iron Warriors, Salamanders, and War Hounds as key forces against the rebels.
  • Lorgar said Anna could call on Vulkan if Millennium World came under attack and described Ultramar as a likely rebel target.
  • Lorgar decided to bet on Guilliman’s loyalty and ordered the communications crew to connect them, but the warp storm prevented contact.

Ch. 907The Stars Shift

A warp storm surrounded Lorgar’s fleet as it neared Prospero, severing contact with several warships. Lorgar tried to shield the fleet with his psychic power, but the energy vanished, and he confronted Sothariel, the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch, amid a region where time and space twisted.

  • Lorgar ordered the fleet to brace for the warp storm and try to contact the missing ships, including the Sword of Power, the Pride of Resolve, and the Earl of Lightning.
  • Lorgar chose to press on toward Prospero, drew his greatsword, and appeared on the prow of the Law of Faith.
  • Lorgar spread golden psychic wings and used his power to steady the fleet’s ships and crews.
  • Lorgar’s golden energy abruptly vanished as the surrounding stars raced through billions of years of change.
  • Lorgar spotted Sothariel, the Eternal Watcher, observing him from within the warp barrier.

Ch. 908Sothaviel

Sothaviel trapped Lorgar in a vast Labyrinth woven from time and space, reversing his attacks and preventing him from breaking through. Lorgar stopped fighting and sat in stillness, leaving Sothaviel frustrated by his lack of resistance.

  • Sothaviel used a star cluster and countless timelines to build a Labyrinth intended to delay Lorgar for nine weeks.
  • Sothaviel activated the Labyrinth, causing its stars, nebulae, and star systems to shift and rearrange around Lorgar.
  • Lorgar repeatedly attacked the Labyrinth, but time manipulation reversed and erased each strike.
  • Lorgar withdrew his psychic energy, stepped onto an Asteroid, and sat cross-legged with his Greatsword across his knees.
  • Sothaviel mocked Lorgar for refusing to struggle, saying his stillness made the Labyrinth dull and disappointing.

Ch. 909Lost or won? Enlightened?

Lorgar resisted Sothaviel’s time-warping Labyrinth by anchoring himself to an asteroid and refusing to react, forcing the Greater Daemon to waste its power. He recognized that Sothaviel’s need to provoke change had trapped it in a draining stalemate.

  • Lorgar concluded that a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch had created the Labyrinth and that brute force could not overcome its control of time.
  • Lorgar spread his psychic power over the asteroid to make it a stable anchor point within the shifting Labyrinth.
  • Lorgar recited the Lectitio Divinitatus without moving, denying Sothaviel the reactions and changes it sought.
  • Sothaviel repeatedly rearranged the Labyrinth and unleashed Temporal Storms to provoke Lorgar, steadily depleting its power.
  • Lorgar opened his eyes and told Sothaviel that those who trapped others would ultimately trap themselves.

Ch. 910Sothaviel: Isn't that underhanded?

Sothaviel’s power faltered as he fought Lorgar in the Labyrinth, but Tzeentch refused to aid him, intrigued by Lorgar’s adaptation and the changes his arrival on Prospero could bring. Lorgar spotted a flaw in the failing Labyrinth and led his fleet toward the opening and Prospero.

  • Sothaviel’s spells and control of the Labyrinth grew unstable as his power waned, and he prayed to Tzeentch for aid.
  • Tzeentch sensed Lorgar learning to resist the Labyrinth and withheld the power he had planned to give Sothaviel.
  • Sothaviel realized he had been abandoned as Lorgar opened his eyes and spotted a fissure caused by the Labyrinth’s weakening.
  • Lorgar rose and called the warships to follow his light through the fissure toward Prospero.
  • Third Chapter Commander Seras rallied the fleet, and tens of thousands of warships followed Lorgar into the opening.

Ch. 911Gathering at Prospero

Lorgar escaped Sothaviel’s collapsing Labyrinth and returned to Realspace above Prospero. He learned that three weeks had passed and found the expeditionary fleets of four Legions gathered there as Leman Russ welcomed him back.

  • Sothaviel failed to stop Lorgar as the Labyrinth’s stars and structures collapsed around him.
  • Lorgar passed through a rift into Realspace, where he saw three Gloriana-class Battleships and tens of thousands of warships above Prospero.
  • Seras and Evans celebrated the fleet’s escape aboard the Law of Faith.
  • Lorgar asked how much time had passed, and Nibelung said eighteen hours had elapsed inside the Labyrinth.
  • Lorgar recognized the Space Wolves flagship Hrafnkel, and Leman Russ told him he had been missing for three weeks.
  • Lorgar saw that the fleets of four Legions had gathered above Prospero and said it was not too late.

Ch. 912Lorgar: This pony's gone lame—a lame horse

Magnus gathered psychic power on Prospero to complete a Grand Spell and prove that he could master the warp, but Lorgar arrived and ordered him to stop. As Magnus continued, Lorgar chose to intervene by force and charged toward the Pyramid.

  • Magnus assembled a hundred Beta-level psykers and drew their power into his Grand Spell atop Prospero's Pyramid.
  • Magnus told Leman Russ that he was proving he was more skilled with psychic energy than Lorgar.
  • Lorgar confronted Magnus and demanded that he dispel his psychic energy, while Royst and the Word Bearers Librarians prepared for battle.
  • Magnus declared that the warp was harmless and insisted on continuing his spell to change the Imperium and the universe.
  • Lorgar flew toward the Pyramid's summit to stop Magnus by force.

Ch. 913An illusion? An illusion! (Special bonus chapter)

Lorgar believed he had killed Magnus and saved the Webway, but the victory dissolved when he realized Tzeentch had woven the entire experience as an illusion. Back on the Law of Faith near Prospero, Lorgar faced the truth that his apparent success had changed nothing.

  • Lorgar plunged toward Magnus and struck him through the chest, killing him as the Grand Spell dissipated.
  • Lorgar celebrated the Webway’s safety and imagined victory for the Imperium before Magnus’s corpse began turning to ash.
  • Prospero, the fleets, and the stars dissolved, and Lorgar realized the world around him was an illusion.
  • Lorgar awoke on the Law of Faith’s bridge in orbit around Prospero, with no sword or blood and Magnus still alive.
  • Tzeentch withdrew from Realspace after deliberately giving Lorgar a false victory so he would suffer the collapse of his hopes.

Ch. 914The burning of Prospero

Lorgar arrived at Prospero two months after becoming trapped in Tzeentch’s Labyrinth and learned that Magnus’s spell had crippled the Imperium’s Warp routes, prompting the Emperor to send the Space Wolves and Adeptus Custodes against him. Fearing Magnus had also damaged the Emperor’s Webway project, Lorgar demanded Magnus’s location and prepared to confront him.

  • Lorgar entered orbit around burning Prospero and learned from Leman Russ that he had been missing for two months.
  • Lorgar realized Tzeentch had manipulated time during his journey, delaying his arrival and keeping him from intervening sooner.
  • Leman Russ explained that Magnus’s Grand Spell had disrupted the Imperium’s Warp routes, and the Emperor had sent the Space Wolves and Adeptus Custodes to subdue Magnus.
  • Lorgar feared Magnus’s spell had irreversibly damaged the Emperor’s Webway project and demanded to know where Constantin Valdor and Magnus were.
  • After Leman Russ gave him Magnus’s coordinates, Lorgar drew his sword, unfurled six golden wings, and prepared to descend on the city.

Ch. 915Brother against brother

Lorgar intervened in Valdor’s advance on the Pyramid and annihilated the Thousand Sons and Imperialis Militia defending the city. He ordered Valdor to withdraw before turning his attention toward the Pyramid where Magnus waited.

  • Valdor led Adeptus Custodes, Sisters of Silence, and Space Wolves through fierce fighting against Thousand Sons and Imperialis Militia defenders.
  • Lorgar appeared on the battlefield, ordered Valdor to fall back, and demanded that Magnus come out.
  • Carlo Fesis and Phosis T'kar attacked Lorgar with psychic fire and a cage of rubble, but Lorgar killed both Company Captains.
  • Lorgar’s golden light disintegrated the defenders’ weapons and attacks as he lifted their position and crushed the city and its troops into dust.
  • Lorgar warned Valdor to withdraw and turned toward the Pyramid where Magnus awaited.

Ch. 916You finally came

After witnessing Lorgar’s power, Royst led the surviving Word Bearers Librarians toward the Pyramid. Lorgar confronted Magnus there, vowed to kill him for destroying the Webway, and faced Ahriman and Amon as they moved to stop him.

  • Royst saw his father’s power destroy a city and rallied fewer than ten surviving Word Bearers Librarians to head for the Pyramid.
  • Lorgar entered the Pyramid and sensed a dangerous concentration of psychic energy at its summit.
  • Magnus and eight empowered Thousand Sons Psykers trapped Lorgar with psychic chains, but Lorgar broke free.
  • Magnus praised his Grand Spell and its effects, but Lorgar accused him of destroying the Webway and threatened to kill him.
  • Ahriman raised a psychic barrier while Amon moved in with a psychic dagger to intercept Lorgar.

Ch. 917Could it still be saved? It could!

Lorgar overwhelmed Ahriman and Amon, then fought off the Thousand Sons while Magnus prepared a psychic sphere to send his account to the Emperor. After Valdor confirmed that there had been no reports of an attack on the Webway, Lorgar saw that the Emperor’s project might still be saved.

  • Lorgar punched Ahriman through a series of walls and kicked Amon out of the Pyramid, leaving his fate unknown.
  • Eight Thousand Sons warriors charged Lorgar while Magnus began gathering psychic energy into a sphere for a message to the Emperor.
  • An Alpha Psyker detonated himself, but Lorgar contained the blast with Golden Psychic Energy and cut down two more Psykers before they could explode.
  • Lorgar ordered Royst to contact Valdor and ask whether the Webway had been attacked.
  • Valdor replied that they had received no reports of an attack, and Royst relayed the news to Lorgar.

Ch. 918To stop me, even you would intervene personally, False God?

Lorgar fought through Magnus’s Alpha Psykers to stop him, but Magnus struck him with a devastating psychic beam. As Royst defended the wounded Primarch, Lorgar sensed that Tzeentch had personally intervened to help Magnus.

  • Lorgar charged Magnus while Royst and the Word Bearers Librarians joined their powers to hold off a Thousand Sons Alpha Psyker.
  • Lorgar cut down the Alpha Psykers blocking his path as Magnus gathered a growing sphere of psychic energy.
  • The last Alpha Psyker detonated himself, but Lorgar survived the blast and struck at Magnus.
  • Magnus caught Lorgar’s sword with a psychic barrier and blasted a fist-sized wound through his chest.
  • Royst stepped between Lorgar and Magnus, while Lorgar sensed Tzeentch’s power in the attack.

Ch. 919This is the great wave I have awaited for a hundred years

Magnus merged his soul with a psychic sphere carrying information about Prospero and raced toward Terra, while Lorgar pursued him through space. Lorgar intercepted the sphere at the Webway gate and prepared to stop it from reaching Terra.

  • Magnus's body dissolved into the blue sphere, and the sphere launched from the Pyramid toward Terra.
  • Lorgar spread his six golden wings and pursued Magnus as warriors on Prospero watched the two lights race through the sky.
  • Lorgar reflected on how a century of experience had changed his purpose, and he resolved to fight for humanity's future.
  • Lorgar overtook the blue sphere and positioned himself before the Webway gate to Terra.
  • Lorgar drew his greatsword and confronted Magnus's approaching soul, blocking its path to Terra.

Ch. 920Shameless Tzeentch

Lorgar held back Magnus’s immense blue sphere in a battle that destroyed the surrounding stars, and awakened a golden power that drove Magnus back. Just as both combatants neared exhaustion, Tzeentch intervened and replenished Magnus’s strength.

  • Lorgar braced his Greatsword against Magnus’s blue sphere as their clash erased stars and planets around them.
  • Magnus warned Lorgar that his body and power were failing, but Lorgar refused to move and declared that stopping Magnus was his fate.
  • Lorgar’s golden radiance intensified, his hair turned gold, and his awakened power pushed Magnus and the blue sphere backward.
  • Lorgar and Magnus both approached their limits as their strength and weapons began to fail.
  • Tzeentch appeared from the Warp and poured power into Magnus, restoring and enlarging the blue sphere.

Ch. 921Battle of the Proxies

The Emperor evacuates the Webway and rushes to help Lorgar, who is close to defeat under Magnus and Tzeentch’s power. The Emperor strengthens Lorgar rather than taking his place, setting up a battle between the Emperor and Tzeentch through their proxies.

  • The Emperor orders Malcador to evacuate the Webway’s researchers and Adeptus Mechanicus personnel, then leaves to aid Lorgar.
  • Tzeentch empowers Magnus, and Lorgar’s strength falters as he resists the overwhelming psychic assault.
  • The Emperor arrives just as Lorgar is about to collapse and restores his strength with golden psychic power.
  • The Emperor stands behind Lorgar and channels his power into him, making Lorgar his proxy against Magnus, Tzeentch’s proxy.

Ch. 922Molech and the Tyrant Star

The Emperor and Lorgar briefly force Tzeentch back as Magnus regains his senses, but Tzeentch retakes control and the stalemate continues. On Molech, Alpharius uses a Tyrant Star artifact to send its destructive power through the gateway toward the Emperor’s battle.

  • The Emperor and Lorgar confront Magnus, and Magnus briefly recognizes the destruction he has caused before Tzeentch seizes control of him again.
  • The Emperor and Tzeentch continue their battle, with neither gaining a decisive advantage.
  • Alpharius leads Alpha Legion warriors into the ruins on Molech and captures the wounded guardian Sureka.
  • Alpharius activates an artifact that channels the Tyrant Star’s power through the gateway into the Warp.
  • The Tyrant Star’s power surges toward the Emperor as he battles Tzeentch.

Ch. 923The End Was Also the Beginning

The Emperor and Lorgar were overwhelmed when Tzeentch combined his power with the strange force from the Tyrant Star. The Emperor rescued the fallen Lorgar, but the resulting assault shattered the Webway barrier and devastated much of the structure; the chapter ended Volume Three and listed the factions for the coming Horus Heresy.

  • The Emperor sensed an unfamiliar darkness rushing through the Warp from the direction of Molech, and Tzeentch exploited his distraction to overwhelm him and Lorgar.
  • The Emperor urged Lorgar to flee, but Lorgar used his remaining strength to resist the combined powers of Tzeentch, Magnus, and the Tyrant Star.
  • Lorgar was gravely wounded and fell unconscious, so the Emperor abandoned the Webway and caught him before he vanished into the darkness.
  • The torrent broke through the Emperor's Webway barrier and destroyed passages across the structure, though an earlier evacuation had saved most of its personnel and left roughly half the Webway intact.
  • Volume Three ended, and the Loyalist, Traitor, and Slumbering factions for Volume Four were listed.

Ch. 924Back to Colchis

After the Emperor's apparition carried the grievously wounded Lorgar to safety on Prospero, Angron and Curze confronted the urgency of his condition. Curze received the Emperor's instruction to take Lorgar back to Colchis and ordered them to leave at once.

  • The Emperor's apparition laid Lorgar on the ground before dissolving into golden motes.
  • Angron and Curze reached Lorgar, and Curze found that his pulse and breathing were failing.
  • Angron lifted Valdor and demanded that the Custodes save Lorgar, but Curze persuaded him to put Valdor down.
  • Curze surveyed Prospero's devastation and received the Emperor's instruction to take Lorgar to Colchis.
  • Curze told Angron that they would leave for Colchis immediately.

Ch. 925Magnus's signal

After Magnus's signal confirmed that the Webway had been breached, Horus ordered the Cleansing Plan to remove potential threats aboard the Vengeful Spirit. Abaddon escaped the Brig with a Melta Grenade and led the prisoners toward Brutus.

  • Horus saw Magnus's blue signal and understood that the Webway had been breached, leaving the Emperor occupied with repairs.
  • Horus ordered the Cleansing Plan, deciding to eliminate the Word Bearers and the imprisoned warriors who had questioned him.
  • Abaddon, Torgaddon, and Loken waited in the overcrowded Brig as Torgaddon concluded that there was no way out.
  • Sons of Horus warriors in Justaerin Terminator Armour arrived to purge the prisoners and aimed a Bolter at Abaddon and the others.
  • Abaddon seized the Bolter, redirected its shot, stole and detonated a Melta Grenade, and blasted open the Brig door.
  • Abaddon picked up a fallen Bolter and urged the escaped prisoners to kill Brutus.

Ch. 926You've Grown Weaker

Abaddon led the breakout from the Vengeful Spirit’s Brig, freeing hundreds of prisoners and rallying them as the Luna Wolves to kill Brutus. Kaebo then warned Abaddon that the Warmaster had betrayed the Imperium and was beginning a Butchery.

  • Abaddon ambushed and killed Justaerin Terminators in the fog while Torgaddon worked the Brig controls and Loken joined the fight.
  • Torgaddon freed hundreds of Space Marine prisoners, who overwhelmed and killed the remaining Justaerin Terminators without losing anyone.
  • Abaddon broke the Brig’s main door and rallied the veterans to arm themselves as Luna Wolves and stop Brutus.
  • Kaebo appeared before Abaddon and warned him to leave the Vengeful Spirit because the Warmaster had betrayed the Imperium and was beginning Butchery.
