Ch. 461Gone with a bang?
Key plot points and events
- Kagami uses his Rinnegan to summon two colossal, foul golden spheres over the Ōtsutsuki homeworld. Their stench, pressure, and corrosive “rain” devastate the planet, destroying buildings and killing its inhabitants.
- Several white-robed figures try to hold back the first sphere. When their god finally appears and punches at the spheres, the attack triggers a massive explosion that consumes the entire planet.
- Kagami escapes into space by using gravity to propel himself away. A day later, he confirms the Ōtsutsuki homeworld has vanished.
- Elsewhere, Dave travels by spaceship with Orochiroku’s help. The ship’s radar detects the planet’s destruction and then a lone person in space; the group goes to investigate and finds Kagami.
- When asked about the Ōtsutsuki homeworld, Kagami explains that it “went bang and disappeared,” leaving the others bewildered.
- Meanwhile, Kakuzu examines alien currency and becomes increasingly inspired to create his own coins bearing his portrait, while Hashirama reacts with disgust and unease.
Character developments
- Kagami displays overwhelming power and ruthlessness, but becomes frightened when the planet’s destruction threatens him too. He ultimately prioritizes survival and flees.
- The Ōtsutsuki god makes a dramatic, apparently heroic entrance, only for his punch to set off the catastrophe that destroys the planet.
- Kakuzu turns alien money into a new business ambition, imagining a personal currency with his face on it.
- Dave is resourceful and enthusiastic about space travel, quickly setting course to find the person detected on the radar.
- Hashirama remains playful and lighthearted, though Kakuzu’s sudden laughter unsettles him.
Significant themes
- Power without control: Kagami’s devastating attack and the god’s response escalate into total planetary destruction.
- Survival and unintended consequences: The apparent attempt to save the planet instead contributes to its annihilation, while Kagami survives by fleeing.
- Absurdity and dark comedy: The grotesque attack, casual discussion of planetary explosions, and Kakuzu’s coin scheme contrast sharply with the mass destruction.
Character interactions
- The Ōtsutsuki inhabitants initially react to the descending spheres with disbelief and terror, then place their hopes in their god.
- Kagami challenges the figures holding back the first sphere by summoning a second, then escapes when the situation becomes lethal.
- Hashirama questions Kakuzu about alien money; Kakuzu’s entrepreneurial fixation leaves Hashirama unnerved.
- Dave consults Orochiroku about the radar readings, then follows the new signal and reunites Kagami with the others.
