Background

Tang San carries memories and techniques from the Tang Sect of another world; he regards himself as a Tang Sect member in life and death and intends to restore its glory in Douluo Continent. His desire to conceal this origin nearly leads him to murder Yu Xiaogang and Dean Mano after they witness his unfamiliar techniques during the Mandala Snake hunt. Master’s genuine concern causes him to abandon the attempt. 12 13 20

He becomes Yu Xiaogang’s disciple and accepts the Mandala Snake Soul Ring despite his doubts about pairing an animal Soul Beast with Blue Silver Grass. The absorption grants his Martial Soul binding and venomous traits, reinforcing his trust in Master’s theories. 13 23

Tang San is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin. His Innate Full Soul Power, Blue Silver Grass, and concealed Clear Sky Hammer lead Spirit Hall to suspect that he possesses Twin Martial Souls and an exceptional Blue Silver bloodline. 21 23 24 He later learns that Ah Yin is alive, although the Blue Silver King cannot awaken his Martial Soul a second time. 244

Personality

Tang San is intensely proud, competitive, and determined to prove both his own worth and Master’s martial-soul theories. He repeatedly refuses to concede to Cheng Xiao, pursues dangerous over-level Soul Ring absorptions, and treats defeat as an insult that must be overcome. 39 163 164

His strategic mind is paired with a ruthless pragmatism. He uses Tang Sect techniques, hidden weapons, poison, and battlefield control to create advantages; during the Imperial Dou Team match, he disregards Master’s warning and attacks Ye Lingling to prevent her from healing her allies. 20 82 92

Repeated defeats by Cheng Xiao damage Tang San’s confidence in Blue Silver Grass. After Cheng Xiao takes control of his Martial Soul, Tang San becomes resentful of its perceived weakness and considers abandoning it for the Clear Sky Hammer. 185 195 196 He can recognize his own faults, however: after Xiao Wu rebukes him for trying to use her to gather information, he resolves to pursue cooperation with Ning Fengzhi more directly. 149

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San’s primary Martial Soul is a control-type Blue Silver Grass with Innate Full Soul Power. Its low Soul Power consumption and compatibility with varied attributes allow it to develop in multiple directions. 21 99

  • Entangle — Summons Blue Silver Grass to bind opponents and control terrain. 28 38
  • Parasite — Causes Blue Silver Grass to emerge and restrain a target after a delay; it carries a poisonous effect inherited from the Mandala Snake. 36
  • Silver Cage — A light-attribute fourth Soul Skill that rapidly grows Blue Silver Grass into a cage; light greatly improves the grass’s toughness and growth speed. 164 175
  • Team coordination — Uses Blue Silver Grass to link Shrek members into a formation centered on himself. 215
  • Limitations — The grass can be cut by sharp weapons and is disadvantaged against lightning-type Martial Souls. Cheng Xiao’s Blue Silver Emperor authority can also stop or override Tang San’s control entirely. 36 216 226

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San’s concealed second Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, recognized as the world’s number-one Tool Martial Soul. He reveals it publicly against Cheng Xiao after Blue Silver Grass fails to obey him. 226

  • Uses the Chaotic Wind Hammer Technique, a continuous hammer method that builds force through successive strikes. 22 226
  • Activates the Clear Sky True Body through Shrek’s Seven-in-One Fusion Skill to defeat Feng Xiaotian, though the exertion nearly exhausts him. 232
  • Its revelation exposes Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls and increases the danger posed by Spirit Hall. 226

Tang Sect Techniques

Tang San supplements his Martial Souls with techniques and knowledge retained from the Tang Sect.

  • Xuantian Skill — Internal cultivation method that circulates within his body and sustains him when weakened. 20 196
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Steps — Movement technique used for rapid evasion and repositioning. 12 40 137
  • Purple Demon Eye — Enhances perception, tracks fast opponents, sees through poisonous mist, and eventually reaches its final realm during the Sea God trials. 29 136 261
  • Mysterious Jade Hand — Toughens his hands for weapon handling and direct combat. 28 38
  • Control Crane and Seize Dragon — Generates an invisible pulling force to redirect or interfere with opponents. 28 226

Hidden Weapons

Tang San forges and carries Tang Sect hidden weapons to compensate for Blue Silver Grass’s offensive limitations. 20 22

  • Throws Silver Needles and other concealed projectiles with precision. 29 39
  • Uses a Sleeve Arrow against Ye Lingling during the Imperial Dou Team battle. 82
  • Hidden weapons can be ineffective against superior Soul Power defenses or Cheng Xiao’s Shadow Power barrier. 29 39

Eight Spider External Soul Bone

Obtained from the Man-faced Demon Spider, the Eight Spider Soul Bone manifests as eight poisonous spider lances from Tang San’s back. 66 91

  • Pierces opponents and delivers venom. 91 92
  • Absorbs energy from Soul Beasts, which Tang San uses to improve his chance of surviving the White Tiger’s Soul Ring absorption. 164
  • Enables climbing and underground excavation; Tang San uses it to bypass the poisonous formation around the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. 136
  • Is severely damaged during Cheng Xiao’s assault. 186

Sea God Inheritance

Tang San is chosen for the Sea God Nine Trials on Sea God Island. 255

  • Completes the third trial, Tidal Body Refinement, ahead of schedule with the Sea God’s intervention. 261
  • Gains Sea God Affinity, a five-level Soul Power increase, spiritual awakening, and an enhanced head Soul Bone. 261
  • Is saved by the Sea God after the Dragon Emperor kills the Seven Sacred Pillars and attacks him. 270
  • Later employs venomous magic capable of freezing time while aiding the Martial Soul Empire against invading monsters. 271

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Twenty-Four Bridges Moonlight Night — Storage belt given by Master; carries supplies, medicine, and hidden weapons. 8 12
  • Tang Sect hidden weapons — Includes Silver Needles, Sleeve Arrows, and other forged projectiles. 29 82
  • Eight Spider external Soul Bone — Poisonous and energy-devouring spider lances. 66 164
  • Ten-thousand-year White Tiger head Soul Bone — A light-attribute, mental-type Soul Bone that enhances Blue Silver Grass and grants an ice-attribute skill. 165
  • God-Bestowed Soul Bone — Given by Poseidon when Tang San reaches his eighth-ring bottleneck. 261

Relationships

  • Yu Xiaogang / Master — Teacher and father figure. Master guides Tang San’s Soul Ring choices and Blue Silver Grass development, while Tang San seeks to prove his theories to the world. 13 36 196
  • Tang Hao — Father. Entrusts Tang San to Master, later helps him seek stronger Soul Rings and Soul Bones, and worries about the dangers caused by the Clear Sky Hammer’s exposure. 21 226 244
  • Ah Yin — Mother. Tang San learns she is alive through the Blue Silver King; she later pleads with Cheng Xiao for an opportunity to speak with Tang San. 244 185
  • Cheng Xiao — Classmate turned primary rival. Tang San suffers repeated defeats against him and makes overcoming Cheng Xiao the central motive behind many of his cultivation decisions. 28 40 185 226
  • Xiao Wu — Shrek teammate and longtime companion. She trains with Tang San but distances herself after criticizing his attempt to use her to obtain information about Ning Rongrong. 22 149
  • Dai Mubai — Shrek teammate. Tang San heals him after Cheng Xiao defeats him and fights to protect Shrek’s members. 82
  • Titan — Becomes loyal to Tang San after seeing the Clear Sky Hammer and offers to protect him. 152
