Background / History

Eastern Emperor Taiyi first appears while pressuring Ao Guang and the Dragon Race to surrender the Nine Dragons Aloeswood Carriage and swear allegiance to the Demon Race Heavenly Court. He threatens to destroy both Ao Guang and the Four Seas Dragon Race if they refuse. Chen Xuan intervenes, and Taiyi restrains himself from killing him due to Chen Xuan's connection to Dao Ancestor Hongjun. He instead orders Demon Master Kunpeng and several Demon Generals to take Chen Xuan to the Heavenly Court as a “guest.” 37

Alongside his elder brother Di Jun, Taiyi subdues the Demon Race’s remaining factions and establishes their authority over the Demon Court. Di Jun becomes Heavenly Emperor, while Taiyi becomes Eastern Emperor. 61 He also gives the Moon Laurel Tree to Chen Xuan to avoid provoking war with the Three Pure Ones, then uses the incident to inflame Xi He’s resentment toward them. 58

Taiyi becomes fixated on marrying Chang Xi after Xi He proposes the match. When Chang Xi chooses Chen Xuan instead, Taiyi attempts to take her back to the Heavenly Court by force. His search for Chang Xi and Chen Xuan escalates into renewed conflict between the Demon and Witch Races. 61 73

He accepts Chen Xuan’s challenge to enter the Innate Five Elements Reversal Grand Array, dismissing the formation because Chen Xuan is only a Great Luo Golden Immortal. Inside, Taiyi is deceived by Chen Xuan’s transformation into Xi He, struck from behind, trapped in Nine Heavens Breath Soil, and separated from the Eastern Emperor Bell. 77 78 Goddess Nüwa later compels Chen Xuan to release him, but Taiyi initially believes Xi He was responsible for the ambush. 80

After losing the bell, Taiyi grows dissatisfied with Di Jun and pursues the Primordial Violet Qi once held by Red Cloud Ancestor in hopes of attaining Sainthood. Demon Master Kunpeng encourages this pursuit, directing Taiyi toward the East Sea under the pretext of subduing the Dragon Race. 101 The search ultimately fails when Taiyi is deceived into believing Red Cloud Ancestor has died and the Primordial Violet Qi has vanished. 118

During the later Demon–Witch conflict, Taiyi shows greater restraint than Di Jun, withdrawing troops rather than sacrificing more Demon Race forces over Di Jun’s personal grief. Xi He subsequently reveals that some Demon Generals answer secretly to Kunpeng, increasing Taiyi’s suspicion of his adviser. 141 Kunpeng eventually abandons Taiyi’s army amid internal strife. 160

In the final battle between the Witch and Demon Races, Taiyi transforms into his Three-legged Golden Crow form and attacks the Twelve Divine Heavens Great Array of Gods and Demons. He later attempts to self-destruct in an effort to take two Ancestral Witches with him. Di Jun tries to stop him but cannot save his brother. 170 171

Taiyi normally appears as a young, handsome man carrying a large bell, often with a hostile or killing expression. His true form is a giant Three-legged Golden Crow surrounded by Solar True Fire. 37 77

Personality

Taiyi is proud, forceful, and highly conscious of his authority as Eastern Emperor. He initially treats the Dragon Race’s submission as a demand rather than a negotiation and is quick to threaten force when resisted. 37

His pursuit of Chang Xi reveals an obsessive and possessive side. He interprets her relationship with Chen Xuan as the theft of his destined consort, refuses to accept her rejection, and is willing to endanger the Demon Court’s stability to reclaim her. 61 73

Despite his temper, Taiyi can act with strategic restraint. He recognizes that Di Jun’s grief over the Golden Crows should not outweigh his duty to the Demon Race, and he withdraws troops to prevent greater losses. 141 His desire for Sainthood and resentment over the loss of the Eastern Emperor Bell also leave him vulnerable to Kunpeng’s manipulation. 101 118
