Background and History

Li Miaoxuan was born into the Great Gan Imperial Family as Li Haotian's only daughter. Her birth mother died from lasting injuries when Miaoxuan was three, after which Li Haotian sent her to the Lingxu Sect for protection amid instability in and around the imperial palace. 23

Though a Lingxu Sect disciple from childhood, she retained ties to Great Gan. She became involved with Gu Yuanqing and bore their son, Li Chengyi. During a later visit to North Spring Mountain, she concealed her identity with the Illusory Heaven Hairpin, calling herself only “Miaoxuan.” She spent time discussing cultivation with Gu Yuanqing, taught him the Great Yi Illusionary Sky Steps, and ultimately revealed her identity before leaving for the Lingxu Sect. 15 16 17

After reaching the Dao Fire Realm, Li Miaoxuan realized that she had not fully severed her worldly attachments. She defied restrictions against Lingxu Sect disciples intervening in the heavenly trial, sought to settle Great Gan's conflict with the Zhou people, and injured Yue Hong when he blocked her path. 79
