Ch. 181Vice Admiral Randall, long time no see
Plot points and events
- White Mask’s tenfold-strength attack fails to pierce Randall’s nose. Randall overpowers him, kicks him into a wall, and turns his attention elsewhere.
- A cloaked stranger materializes from eerie green currents. He is revealed to be Dragon, a Logia user who knows Randall and addresses him as “Vice Admiral.”
- Yellow Mask demands an explanation, but Randall says the masked group’s time is up. Dragon swiftly kills Yellow Mask and the other masked figures with an unseen attack.
- Randall observes that Dragon has grown stronger since their last meeting. He then kills White Mask, who tries to resist, by knocking him down and crushing his head.
- Randall asks Dragon whether he would help liberate the country from its brutal king. Dragon is unsure what Randall means, so they agree to discuss it later.
- Randall reunites with his stunned Marine subordinates and says he will explain everything aboard their battleship.
Character developments and interactions
- Randall remains calm, confident, and deadly throughout. His near-impenetrable defense and overwhelming strength contrast with the enemies’ panic. He also shows an interest in helping the oppressed people of the country.
- Dragon appears as a powerful, stealthy fighter. Though modest in words, he has clearly improved since his previous meeting with Randall. His presence suggests a history and mutual understanding between them.
- White Mask goes from boastful confidence to disbelief and fear before Randall kills him.
- Yellow Mask trusts the World Government’s authority to protect him, but is killed before he can grasp the danger.
- Brick and the Marines are bewildered by the sudden deaths and Randall’s connection to Dragon; they look to Randall for answers.
Significant themes
- Power and false confidence: White Mask’s tenfold boost and Yellow Mask’s reliance on political authority both prove useless against stronger opponents.
- Justice and resistance: Randall’s suggestion to liberate the country introduces the possibility of opposing its tyrannical ruler.
- Hidden alliances and foreshadowing: Dragon’s familiarity with Randall hints at a deeper relationship and sets up future developments in the rebellion.
