Ch. 241Battle in progress: The grand finals (2)
Plot points and events
- Liu Qing’s Togekiss remains poisoned after defeating Han Ye’s Umbreon. Han Ye gives Liu an antidote, and Liu returns Togekiss to its Poké Ball.
- Liu sends out Roserade; Han Ye counters with Houndoom. Roserade’s Toxic barrage fails as Houndoom dodges and strikes with Punishment, heavily damaging Roserade.
- Roserade traps Houndoom with vines and poisons it, apparently putting Liu in control. Han spots that Houndoom’s tail is still free: Iron Tail breaks the restraints, allowing Houndoom to use Flamethrower and knock Roserade out.
- Liu’s Slowking faces the badly poisoned Houndoom. It redirects Water Pulse with Confusion, striking Houndoom from behind; the attack and poison together make Houndoom faint.
- The score is now even in this exchange, with both trainers having four Pokémon left. Liu gives Han an antidote for Houndoom, then sends out his next Pokémon, Shedinja.
Character development and interactions
- Han’s confidence turns to frustration when Roserade traps Houndoom, but he quickly adapts and finds a way to reverse the fight.
- Liu shows tactical skill with Roserade’s vines and Slowking’s redirected Water Pulse. He also reciprocates Han’s earlier kindness by supplying an antidote.
- The trainers’ rivalry is competitive but sportsmanlike: each helps the other treat a poisoned Pokémon. Liu Yuan cheers Han on, while Brock offers tactical analysis.
Significant themes
- Adaptability and strategy: Both trainers change tactics under pressure; small openings, such as Houndoom’s unrestrained tail, can determine a battle.
- Mutual respect and sportsmanship: Despite the rivalry, Han and Liu help treat each other’s Pokémon.
- Momentum and uncertainty: A near-defeat becomes a victory, then the advantage shifts again, keeping the outcome unsettled.
