Background / History

Kukulu grows up under the close protection of the Ancient Spirit Fairy king and queen. His older brother, Jun Yi, is seven hundred years his senior and takes his education seriously. Kukulu admires Jun Yi’s strength and trains to become powerful enough to protect Fanny and others 7 8 9.

Pupula seeks to intervene in Kukulu’s education through Edwin and Dai Weiwei. Dai Weiwei considers both his parents and Jun Yi major obstacles to that plan. Edwin intends to warn the king and queen, believing Jun Yi probably already knows about the scheme 7.

Appearance

Kukulu initially appears as a young royal child; in the Human World, he has a tiny, doll-like body that others do not immediately recognize as a living prince 9 45 46.

Kukulu is earnest about protecting those he cares for and deeply trusts his older brother’s judgment. During training, he restrains his excitement to greet Jun Yi with proper etiquette. Even when frightened by Jun Yi’s punishment of Dai Weiwei, he forces himself to watch because his brother has instructed him to do so 8 9.

He is also playful, curious, and susceptible to wounded pride. He enthusiastically asks to pet Jun Yi’s fox and teases Sen Lijiu out of bed, but protests loudly when excluded from an outing. In the Human World, he repeatedly asserts his princely status when An’an and Camellia belittle his size 31 38 46 47.

Kukulu can acknowledge mistakes and exercise caution. After Jun Yi and Sen Lijiu make him experience being cheated, he admits his own cheating was wrong. When an enemy emissary collapses, he investigates rather than settling on his initial suspicion of foul play 34 42.
