Sannin and wandering gambler

Tsunade is the First Hokage’s granddaughter and a veteran of two Shinobi World Wars. Her battlefield experience gives her a commanding, murderous presence comparable to that of the Warring States-era Tobirama 59 168.

By the time Sora finds her, she has long since left Konoha and travels with her assistant, Shizune. She spends her days gambling in Tanzaku Town, repeatedly losing her money and then losing money borrowed from other players. Despite declaring that Konoha’s affairs no longer interest her, she initially intends to defeat the rogue ninja Sora and send him back to face judgment 59 60.

Wager with Uchiha Sora

Sora seeks Tsunade to address his weaknesses in healing and recovery, learn the Yin Seal, and potentially gain access to Shikkotsu Forest. He brings Karin to their meeting and challenges Tsunade to a fight, expecting that she would otherwise reject his request 54 56 59 60.

The duel exposes both her overwhelming strength and her vulnerability to Sora’s versatility. His Flying Thunder God-assisted Lightning Blade wounds her shoulder. When he subsequently threatens Shizune, Tsunade steps between them and takes his sword through her lung. Hiruzen announces that he will step down and appoint Tsunade as Fifth Hokage, granting her full authority over Konoha. He hopes her relationship with Sora will make cooperation between Konoha and Kusagakure possible 124.

During a poisoning crisis on the western front, Tsunade personally travels to the border base, identifies the poison, and prepares an antidote that saves the wounded ninja. Suspecting Chiyo’s involvement, she leads an elite squad into the Land of Wind. A strange storm and pillar of light divert her investigation toward the ruins of Rōran, where she finds Sora 140 141.

Parallel Warring States world

Tsunade and Sora discover that they have reached the Warring States Period after interrogating Black Sand ninja. Sora theorizes that the Dragon Vein sent them into a parallel timeline. With no known route home, Tsunade proposes visiting the Senju Clan to meet Hashirama 144 145.

Her medical work earns the Senju’s respect and reduces casualties during their campaign against the Hyuga. Seeing younger counterparts of Hashirama and Tobirama unsettles her, but she continues serving professionally 167.

When the Hozuki and Kaguya clans threaten the Senju’s attempt to capture the Six-Tails, Tsunade refuses to remain behind as a healer. She takes command of the support unit, then sends its inexperienced members—including children—back to safety rather than sacrifice them against the Kaguya 168 169.
