Nature
Sovereign Artifacts are exceptionally rare treasures associated with Lord Gods. They can drastically strengthen a god's offense, material defense, or soul defense, making them decisive assets for Asura- and Commander-level experts. A single ownerless artifact is valuable enough to lure powerful figures into extreme danger. 13 79 92
Their strength can be misread: the black short spear wielded by Nasser was initially believed to be a Destruction Sovereign Artifact, but its baleful aura, mind-affecting influence, and unusual power led Sean to suspect it was instead a Supreme God Relic. 2 5 77
Types and Functions
| Type | Known example | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Offensive Physical | Torres' crimson, flame-wreathed saber | Greatly amplifies physical attacks; its heat warps the surrounding space. 14 |
| Material Defense | Sean's black armor from the Death Sovereign | Protects against material attacks; combined with Sean's soul attainments, it leaves him with few weaknesses below the Paragon level. 13 14 |
| Soul Defense | Uriel's Soul Defense Lord God Artifact | Protects the soul; even the Soul Attacks of a hundred Paragons cannot breach one. 106 120 |
| Dual Defense | Artifacts borrowed by Sean for Dannington | Combining soul and material defense gives an expert a strong chance of surviving a Plane War if they avoid reckless close combat. 120 |
Ownership and Restrictions
- A Sovereign Artifact can be bound through blood. After Sean dripped blood onto the black armor granted by the Death Sovereign, it merged into his body. 14
- Lord Gods can sense when artifacts they forged are claimed or when their ownership is relinquished. Such artifacts retain locator marks from their creators. 77
- Storing a marked artifact in a Space Ring can prevent immediate tracking, but it cannot safely be used outside it; taking it out allows its creator to locate it. 77
- Sean forced Buweit to relinquish his Defense Sovereign Artifact and discard it into Space Turbulence so that the Azure Dragon Lord God would believe Buweit had died. 77
- Sovereigns are restricted from casually granting a second Sovereign Artifact to an emissary. This limitation makes Plane Battlefield badges and ownerless artifacts especially desirable. 36 79
- Artifacts once granted by a deceased Lord God may be contested under an unspoken agreement among Lord Gods. They can also be lent more freely than artifacts obtained through ordinary emissary grants or Plane Wars. 120
Acquisition
Lord God Bestowal
Those who meet a Sovereign's requirements may receive an artifact directly. After obtaining the Netherworld Fruit and becoming the Death Sovereign's emissary, Sean chose a Material Defense Lord God Artifact. 12 13
Plane Battlefield
Commanders pursue badges in the Plane Battlefield in hopes of receiving Sovereign Artifacts. Audebeu, Sean, and Torres divide badges by contribution while seeking enough for further artifacts. 25
A more discreet method is recovering artifacts from emissaries killed in other battles. Sean spent a century observing distant conflicts before finding an ownerless Wind-attribute Sovereign Artifact—a cyan longsword—after its prior owner died. 28
Ownerless Relics and Rumors
Ownerless Sovereign Artifacts are powerful bait. Sean uses a fabricated “Graveyard of Gods” containing Death-attribute artifacts to tempt Four Divine Beasts Family members into leaving the Heavenly Sacrifice Mountain Range. 79 92 93
Soul Pearl Interaction
The Soul Pearl reacts violently to nearby Sovereign Artifacts, producing an urge to devour them. Sean first experiences this upon receiving the Death Sovereign's armor, then again when Torres reveals his offensive saber. The urge disappears once an artifact belongs to Sean. 13 14
Sean later allows the Soul Pearl to consume multiple ownerless artifacts in isolation. Golden energy wraps around the artifacts and strips away their Sovereign Artifact might until they disintegrate into ash. 44 45
- Six consumed artifacts reveal fragmented memories belonging to deceased Lord Gods. 45
- These memories disclose the Soul Pearl's connection to a former Dark-and-Death dual-attribute Lord God and reveal the location of a sealed Death Lord Godhead. 45
- By the time Sean confronts Buweit again, the artifacts he had collected from the Plane Battlefield have already been destroyed by the Soul Pearl. 77
Notable Artifacts
- Nasser's black short spear — Originally treated as a Destruction Sovereign Artifact, but its baleful aura drives wielders toward slaughter and affects nearby souls; Sean identifies it as a likely Supreme God Relic rather than a true Sovereign Artifact. 2 5 77
- Sean's black armor — Material Defense Lord God Artifact awarded by the Death Sovereign upon Sean becoming her emissary. 13 14
- Torres' crimson saber — Fire-attribute Offensive Physical Lord God Artifact. 14
- Wind-attribute cyan longsword — Ownerless artifact recovered by Sean in the Plane Battlefield; later consumed by the Soul Pearl. 28 45
- Buweit's Defense Sovereign Artifact — Bore the Azure Dragon Lord God's mark; Buweit relinquished it and threw it into Space Turbulence. 77
- Uriel's defensive artifacts — A Soul Defense and an Offensive Lord God Artifact lent to Sean for Dannington's use in the next Plane War. 120
