Background

Yuanshi originated as one of the Three Pure Ones, three light orbs nurtured on Kunlun Mountain from Pangu's primordial spirit and protected by immense creation merit. Although Tongtian transformed first, Yuanshi and Laozi regarded themselves as Tongtian's elder brothers, making the question of seniority an early source of discomfort. 1 3

After transforming, Yuanshi attained the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm and wielded the Yuqing Celestial Light, his origin divine ability. Tongtian later comprehended this technique by observing Yuanshi and Laozi transcend their tribulations. 3

Personality

Yuanshi is deeply prideful and highly conscious of status, especially his identity as a Pangu Sect Disciple, elder brother, and later a Saint. He reacts strongly when outsiders diminish the Three Pure Ones' reputation, even while struggling against Eastern Duke. 39 48

His relationship with Tongtian deteriorates as Tongtian's cultivation, spiritual treasures, allies, and reputation outpace his own. Yuanshi repeatedly interprets Tongtian's success as selfishness or scheming, resents being overshadowed, and is unwilling to concede fault even when urged to apologize to Nüwa. 46 69 80 82 113

He is also ambitious and faction-minded. After becoming a Saint, he founds the Chan Sect in the name of following Heaven's will, recruits disciples aggressively, and seeks influence over the Human Race and the Celestial Court. 85 101 108 112
