Power Progression
Blue Star’s development is described through planetary changes rather than a named cultivation rank.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Center of a universe-wide mutation | 81 | Approximately a century before the Ancient One’s visit to Jiang Xiang, Blue Star becomes one of the mutation’s centers. Subsequent cosmic changes make the future increasingly difficult for the Time Stone to reveal. |
| Spiritual-energy enrichment and planetary enhancement | 200 | Jiang Xiang applies Spiritual Energy Revival Cards, Energy Enhancement Cards, Reinforcement Cards, Nature Cards, and other cards. Gaea’s consciousness cooperates by releasing spiritual energy, leaving the planet with a comparatively abundant supply. |
Background / History
Ancient gods, including Gaea and Chthon, appeared at the dawn of Blue Star’s creation. Chthon commanded the power of the dead and became known as a god of the underworld and Yama 174.
For hundreds of years, the Ancient One guarded the planet as Sorcerer Supreme. During her tenure, most inhabitants knew neither Kamar-Taj’s existence nor the extent of its protection. Asgard also helped repel forces coveting Blue Star from beyond the universe 81 190 295.
Jiang Xiang initially regarded his surroundings as a relatively stable world and intended to remain inconspicuous until Iron Man’s expected emergence in 2008. His system-created characters, supernatural incidents, and organizations instead became major influences on the planet’s development 2 95 163.
After Jiang Xiang became a dimensional lord, the Ancient One asked him to help protect Blue Star. He agreed, emphasizing that he remained a human of the planet. He later inherited the Sorcerer Supreme’s position while continuing to distinguish planetary defense from governing humanity 81 150 315.
Geography and Cosmological Position
The Middle Realm
- Nine Realms nexus: During the Nine-Star Alignment, Blue Star alone connects to all eight other realms. Invaders therefore seek to use it as a staging ground for conquering the Nine Realms 295 314.
- Temporary collapse of barriers: When the alignment begins, the barriers separating Blue Star from the other realms vanish. Their inhabitants can enter without the Bifrost or other teleportation magic 301.
- Local spatial nodes: A European river contains a node connecting Blue Star to Asgard; Bor once stored the Aether there. S.H.I.E.L.D.-escorted teams investigate such sites before the alignment 298.
- Dimensional defenses: Kamar-Taj maintains seals and a dimensional array around Blue Star. Chthon expends substantial dimensional energy to breach a seal, while Odin approaches Jiang Xiang at the array’s boundary through a projection 174 175.
- Cosmic accessibility: Old Man warns that advanced civilizations possess spatial travel and that magical items can provide comparable access. Physical distance alone does not prevent outsiders from reaching Blue Star 151.
- Overlapping universes: Jiang Xiang observes that Blue Star’s universe is being intersected and overlapped by other universes, with planets appearing or being destroyed amid those changes 123.
Major Locations
| Location | Significance |
|---|---|
| New York | An early center of Jiang Xiang’s activities, S.H.I.E.L.D. investigations, and supernatural disasters. It later becomes a battlefield against alien forces 2 25 143 225. |
| Kamar-Taj | Headquarters of the Sorcerer Supreme’s magical tradition; focuses principally on dimensional invasions rather than ordinary political affairs 165. |
| European Continent | Devastated by the Bat Monster, rebuilt with disaster prevention in mind, and subsequently ravaged by the Nine Realms invasion 312 315. |
| Stonehenge and the Zibo Plains | A contested invasion-era battlefield. The Darkness and Silence Bell appears above Stonehenge, forcing evacuation and transforming the surrounding landscape 306. |
| West Coast | Site of the Ultramen’s battle with General Sponge, Red Starfish, and Blue Octopus; also affected by Groudon and Kyogre’s emergence 150 229 231. |
| Eastern Country | A participant in the Dragon Ball negotiations and the recipient of technical documentation for the most advanced human-owned equipment on Blue Star 102. |
Planetary Consciousness and Native Powers
Gaea’s Consciousness
- Blue Star possesses an active planetary consciousness, also identified as Gaea’s consciousness. It cooperates with Jiang Xiang’s enhancement efforts by releasing spiritual energy 200.
- Doctor Strange seeks a portion of its essence and leyline core to restore the Blue Star of his own world. He assists defenders partly to earn the consciousness’s goodwill 304 305.
- Its protection does not automatically prioritize humans. Strange becomes alarmed when it fails to mobilize its source power despite catastrophic human losses during the invasion 306.
Natural Counterbalances
- Maga Orochi — Described as a product of desire and planetary self-regulation, arising in response to excessive human development. Historical mages sealed it rather than destroyed it because it was a creature of Blue Star intended to curb humanity 169.
- Orochi — Identified as the Avatar of Blue Star. His clan claims responsibility for maintaining natural balance and planetary stability, but his judgment that humanity is too numerous makes him a potential enemy of humans as well as a planetary defender 312.
- Groudon and Kyogre — Described as native gods rather than creatures motivated by hatred of humanity. Their recurring battles previously occurred in dimensional spaces or near dimensional boundaries; their conflict within Blue Star threatens unpredictable damage 226 231.
Protecting the planet and protecting its human population are not always equivalent duties. Sorcerer Supreme Magneto explicitly invokes this distinction when explaining his inability to casually intervene against Maga Orochi 178.
Factions and Planetary Defense
Supernatural Community
Blue Star has an unusually dense concentration of powerful beings. The Otsutsuki patriarch contrasts its many supernatural factions and planetary-level fighters with inhabited worlds that struggle to support even one comparable defender. Captain Marvel encounters eleven beings capable of dominating small star systems at a single conference 158 166.
| Faction / Institution | Role |
|---|---|
| Kamar-Taj | Defends against dimensional invasions and convenes the planet’s first supernatural assembly 165 163. |
| Foundation | Participates in planetary defense, identifies Nine Realms attackers, and gains public recognition during the invasion crisis 296 312. |
| Land of Light | Provides Ultraman defenders. Gen Ohtori becomes its ambassador on Blue Star and liaison with Kamar-Taj 143 150. |
| Asgard | Historically helps protect Blue Star from outside forces; remains closely connected through the Nine Realms 190 295. |
| Other assembly factions | Include the Heavenly Court, Underworld, Langya, Navy, Order of the Holy Knights, and Snake-Worshipping Cult 163. |
Most factions attending the first supernatural assembly were created by Jiang Xiang. Blue Star’s preexisting native supernatural groups remained comparatively weak or undeveloped, despite the ancient histories presented by many newer organizations 163.
Human Agencies and Regulation
- S.H.I.E.L.D. investigates supernatural activity and extraterrestrial threats, but lacks unrestricted law-enforcement authority and cannot compel Kamar-Taj to accept its supervision 15 150.
- Avengers Squad becomes formally established by mid-2008, with Steve Rogers as captain after negotiations involving S.H.I.E.L.D. and the World Security Council 187.
- S.W.O.R.D. and H.A.M.M.E.R. are created as the United States revives parts of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the Nine Realms crisis 296.
- Superhuman Registration Act creates disputes over compulsory disclosure, dangerous assignments, and unequal representation. Retiring registered heroes leave Steve facing increased crime 258 260 264.
- Fragmented authority persists after the invasion: S.W.O.R.D. favors relaxed registration, S.H.I.E.L.D. seeks better recruitment incentives, and the Registration Act Office resists revision 318.
Jiang Xiang refuses to become humanity’s ruler or manage every reconstruction dispute. He leaves battlefield spoils to those who defeated the enemy and insists that humans must address their own problems 315.
Story Role / Major Arcs
| Arc / Event | Chapters | Consequences for Blue Star |
|---|---|---|
| Early supernatural emergence | 7 11 25 | Wraith attacks expose S.H.I.E.L.D.’s inability to reliably handle supernatural threats. Investigations uncover dozens of apparent returns from the dead. |
| Global competition for extraordinary power | 95 102 | Governments, corporations, and agencies pursue superhumans and Dragon Balls. Gathering the seven Balls brings the Wish-Granting Dragon to the planet. |
| Temporary dimensional respite | 134 | Following the defeat of the Primordial Blood Dimension, nearby dimensions largely withdraw, giving Blue Star several years of relative peace from that direction. |
| Meteorite and Ultraman arrival | 141 142 143 144 | A supernatural power draws an extinction-threatening object toward the planet. Its approach causes disasters and destroys nearly all surrounding satellites. Leo shatters it and confronts a monster in New York; his battles become the public’s first openly witnessed alien visit. |
| Giant battle on the West Coast | 149 150 | Ultramen and three sea creatures devastate the area. Jiang Xiang ends the clash with a Mirror Dimension, leaving governments, police, and insurers to handle the damage. |
| First supernatural assembly | 163 | The Sorcerer Supreme gathers factions in the Mirror Dimension at the World Security Council headquarters. Official status alone grants no admission; invitations control access. |
| Battle of New York | 219 225 | Space Stone portals admit alien forces. Old Man recovers the Mind Scepter and closes the passage, allowing defenders to eliminate the remaining invaders. |
| Groudon and Kyogre crisis | 229 231 | Their emergence threatens widespread destruction. Jiang Xiang identifies finding the Child of the Sky and summoning Rayquaza as the best way to stop their confrontation. |
| Nine Realms invasion | 295 296 301 312 | Vanguard incursions precede the alignment’s open connections. Europe bears severe attacks, and multinational defensive lines hold at enormous human cost while Jiang Xiang secretly undermines the invaders’ supplies and home realms. |
| Darkness and Silence One | 306 312 | A cursed bell transforms the Stonehenge battlefield and heralds an ancient threat. Orochi defeats the entity, but the alien war continues and his views on humanity create another danger. |
| End of the invasion | 313 315 318 | Magneto rescues survivors and crushes the remaining invaders after Jiang Xiang raids seven other realms. Europe is devastated, afterlife systems are overwhelmed, and rebuilt New York remains unusually hot from a Fire Giant’s lingering effects. |
| Jiang Xiang’s departure | 381 | After creating a New Universe, Jiang Xiang bids farewell on Blue Star and relocates there with his family. |
Parallel Versions
“Blue Star” also refers to counterpart planets in other universes. Their histories and catastrophes are distinct from those of Jiang Xiang’s home planet.
Parallel-World Visitors
- Logan — Arrives in 2006 expecting his own past, but inhabits an unfamiliar body without his usual healing. His account reveals major differences between his world and this Blue Star 134 152.
- Wanda — Supplies information about another world’s Avengers and Thanos’s use of the Infinity Stones. Fury withholds the warning about half the universe’s life being erased from his colleagues 148 152.
- Future Avengers — Find an unfamiliar abundance of supernatural factions. Their temporary accommodation is effectively house arrest because their appearances match local counterparts 229 236.
- Doctor Strange — Identifies the main Blue Star as the third planet he has found with a Blue Star consciousness. His attempt to restore his own lost world motivates his search for the local consciousness’s essence 304 305.
Destroyed and Trial Worlds
| Counterpart | Distinguishing Conditions |
|---|---|
| Captain Parker’s world | Changing climates and physical laws make spatial travel easier and produce proliferating rifts. Planets exchange pieces of land, while foreign creatures, disasters, and diseases eventually wipe out humanity 337. |
| Sentinel-dominated trial world | Its Tony Stark creates Sentinels after Thanos’s defeat. The machines displace human labor and become instruments of oppression; mutants, Avengers, and Sentry later enter a three-way conflict 358 360. |
| Trial world during the Phoenix crisis | The returning Phoenix Force destroys orbital Sentinels and damages the planet. The Avengers are subsequently almost annihilated, while Sentry disappears and surviving Sentinels gather in force 362 370. |
Near the trial-world Blue Star, Jiang Xiang discovers an enormous pulsing spatial rift extending toward two neighboring planets. He interprets the surrounding galaxy as nourishment for an emerging being and detects world-creation authority within the rift 369 370.
