Background / History
Kenjaku has survived for more than a millennium through a brain-swapping cursed technique. He lived in the same era as Yamata no Great Serpent and knew ancient figures whom Sukuna recognizes upon his return. By the time Naomitsu finds him in Sendai, Kenjaku inhabits Kaori Itadori’s body and has given birth to Yuji Itadori 35 36 59.
His original plans involved resurrecting Sukuna, staging the Culling Game, and producing an enormous cursed spirit. The appearance of unexpected ancient sorcerers, revived curses, and breaches in Tengen’s barriers prompts him to expand the experiment to all of Japan 39.
Appearance
- Head stitches: Visible stitches mark his host’s head after a brain change. Their visibility is a binding vow associated with his cursed technique, making them a reliable identifying feature 35.
- Kaori Itadori’s body: Initially presents himself as a gentle, mature woman, using a natural smile and friendly manner to disguise his intentions 35.
- Suguru Geto’s body: Later wears Geto’s appearance, including stitches across the forehead and Geto’s characteristic smile 48.
Personality
Kenjaku’s central motivation is curiosity sharpened by centuries of boredom. He welcomes developments that disrupt his expectations and treats the prospect of nationwide catastrophe as an exciting experiment. His preference for creating something new directly contrasts with Tengen’s pursuit of stability 39.
His warmth is compatible with calculated violence. He can imitate a friendly mother, recognize Naomitsu’s unusual soul, and consider killing him within the same encounter. Nevertheless, he negotiates when cooperation is useful and honors the dangerous agreement to alter Maki’s soul in exchange for Sukuna’s Fingers 35 55 56.
Kenjaku also adapts quickly to threats. Naomitsu’s arrival at Tokyo Jujutsu High makes him accelerate Sukuna’s revival, while the ensuing pursuit gives him an opening to reach Tengen. Later, he deliberately permits Gojo’s release because Naomitsu’s presence has forced another change in his plans 59 61 65.
Abilities & Skills
Brain-Swapping Cursed Technique
Kenjaku changes bodies by replacing their brains, allowing him to assume different identities across his long life 35 36 48.
- Documented hosts are Kaori Itadori and Suguru Geto 35 48.
- Head stitches remain visible because of the technique’s binding vow 35.
- Occupying Geto’s body provides access to Cursed Spirit Manipulation 48 61.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Using Geto’s technique, Kenjaku absorbs cursed spirits and incorporates them into his plans 55 61.
- Absorbs Mahito, gaining access to Idle Transfiguration 55.
- Absorbs Tengen after Tengen’s gradual transformation toward a cursed spirit 61.
- Tengen’s assimilation gives him control over Japan’s barrier system 61.
Idle Transfiguration
After absorbing Mahito, Kenjaku directly alters souls. Despite having acquired the technique recently, he performs Maki’s alteration with practiced ease 55 56.
- Severs the soul-level connection that treats Maki and Mai as a single entity 56.
- Leaves Maki’s appearance unchanged while enabling her Heavenly Restriction to take full effect; Mai’s cursed-energy reserves also surge 56.
- Remotely awakens cursed techniques in millions of people marked beforehand, including Hiromi Higuruma 61.
- Initially cannot guarantee that the twins’ procedure will succeed 55.
Soul Perception and Investigation
Kenjaku immediately notices that Naomitsu’s soul is unusually mature for his child’s body 35 36.
- Investigates Naomitsu’s background after their first bargain and discovers his real name 36.
- Initially suspects a body-changing technique similar to his own; he does not understand the concept of a transmigrator 36.
- Describes Naomitsu as a “loophole in this world,” without fully explaining the claim 36.
Barrier Control and Culling Game Preparation
Kenjaku prepares Culling Game anchors in Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, regions abandoned by Tengen’s narrowed barrier. Absorbing Tengen allows him to extend the game across the country 61.
- Japan’s barrier binds entrants to the game and prevents Players from leaving 61.
- His early acquisition of Idle Transfiguration permits far more preparation and awakenings than Naomitsu expected 61.
- Kenjaku’s own role in moving the game’s pieces is constrained by a binding vow 61.
Equipment / Items
- Prison Realm — Acquired and used to seal Satoru Gojo during the attack on Tokyo Jujutsu High. Gojo is subsequently released with Kenjaku’s deliberate permission 57 65.
- Eight Sukuna’s Fingers — Obtained from Naomitsu after successfully altering Maki’s soul 56.
- Sukuna’s final finger — Remains in Kenjaku’s possession while Sukuna, occupying Megumi, has reached nineteen fingers 63.
Relationships
- Naomitsu Zenin — A transactional associate and source of unusual interest. Kenjaku investigates him, warns him about the Great Serpent, and completes the twins’ soul alteration for eight Fingers. His Culling Game later destroys the peaceful life Naomitsu wanted to preserve 35 36 55 56 62.
- Yuji Itadori — His biological child through Kaori’s body and Sukuna’s vessel. Seeing Naomitsu’s harmless appearance briefly reminds Kenjaku of Yuji, but he later helps force Sukuna’s revival through him 35 59.
- Suguru Geto — His later host and the source of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Kenjaku appears in Geto’s body after its disappearance following Geto’s death 48.
- Mahito — Initially participates in the disaster-spirit gathering; later absorbed so Kenjaku can use Idle Transfiguration directly 53 55.
- Tengen — An ideological opposite and essential target. Kenjaku absorbs Tengen to obtain nationwide barrier control 39 61.
- Satoru Gojo — A major obstacle whom Kenjaku seals. After deliberately allowing Gojo’s release, he faces Gojo’s vow to avenge Geto 57 65.
- Sukuna — An ancient acquaintance whose resurrection forms part of Kenjaku’s plans. Kenjaku nevertheless hopes to create a cursed spirit dangerous enough to threaten even Sukuna 39 59.
- Uraume — Collaborates with Kenjaku during the accelerated effort to revive Sukuna 59.
- Jogo and the Disaster Cursed Spirits — Kenjaku coordinates their search for Sukuna’s Fingers and directs them to occupy Jujutsu High while he pursues Yuji 53 59.
- Maki and Mai Zenin — Subjects of his successful soul-level intervention, which unlocks Maki’s full Heavenly Restriction and increases Mai’s cursed energy 56.
- Nanako and Mimiko — Geto’s adopted daughters, whom Kenjaku entrusts to Naomitsu after taking Geto’s body 48.
- Polar Day — An ancient curse user searching for him by name and by his distinctive stitches. Their precise connection is unrevealed 42.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Sendai Encounter
Naomitsu finds Kenjaku among the witnesses to Rika Orimoto’s transformation into a vengeful spirit. He follows Kenjaku and suggests that he may have been involved in Rika’s death; this remains a suspicion, not an established fact. Kenjaku prepares to silence him but accepts a bargain instead: after achieving his goal, he will bring Hiromi Higuruma to Kyoto Jujutsu High 35.
Before Naomitsu leaves Sendai, Kenjaku reveals that he has investigated him and identified him as an anomaly. He then warns that Yamata no Great Serpent has revived 36.
Expansion of the Experiment
The breaches in Tengen’s barriers inspire Kenjaku to replace a limited Culling Game with a nationwide experiment. He intends to use Japan’s population as a medium, producing constant fear of death and negative emotions that could generate a cursed spirit surpassing the Great Serpent 39.
He subsequently appears in Geto’s body and transfers responsibility for Nanako and Mimiko to Naomitsu. Naomitsu recognizes that Kenjaku’s acquisition of Geto has occurred five years earlier than expected 48.
The Finger Bargain
Kenjaku organizes seven Disaster Cursed Spirits into separate searches for Sukuna’s Fingers. Later, he visits Naomitsu to negotiate for the eight Fingers Gojo left in his care 53 55.
Naomitsu rejects an offer to heal Mechamaru and instead requests an alteration to his sisters’ souls. Kenjaku absorbs Mahito, performs the procedure himself, and receives the Fingers after successfully severing Maki and Mai’s soul-level bond 55 56.
Tokyo Jujutsu High Attack
The assault on Tokyo Jujutsu High seals Gojo and severely damages the school’s defenses, completing a crucial step toward Kenjaku’s capture of Tengen 57.
Naomitsu’s arrival and the Great Serpent’s abduction of Yuji force Kenjaku to accelerate Sukuna’s revival. He orders the curses to distract the school, follows the Serpent, and reaches the subway platform where Jogo feeds Yuji fifteen Fingers, bringing Sukuna to sixteen 59.
Nationwide Culling Game
With Gojo sealed and the school’s defenders drawn away, Kenjaku enters the Tombs of the Star Corridor and absorbs Tengen without resistance. He then activates the Culling Game nationwide and remotely alters millions of marked people 61.
The resulting mass killings create more cursed spirits, which compete for prey and intensify the destruction 62 63.
Gojo’s Release
Kenjaku knowingly allows Jujutsu High’s efforts to release Gojo to succeed. He states that Naomitsu’s presence has made this necessary for a new, undisclosed decision. Gojo immediately arrives above the Tombs of the Star Corridor and threatens to avenge Geto 65.
