After Roger’s execution ignited the Great Pirate Era, Gern built influence within the Marines, recruited Bullet, and brought the Snake Princess aboard. The crew reached Sky Island, subdued Gan Fall, and set course for Birka in pursuit of Enel.

• Shiki attacked Marineford to stop Roger’s execution, but Garp and Sengoku captured him, and Roger was executed in Loguetown, beginning the Great Pirate Era.
• As the Marines debated how to respond to rising piracy, Gern volunteered to deal with Bullet and defeated him before offering him a place among his Calamities.
• Gern arranged for Bullet to be imprisoned in Impel Down while he negotiated with Kong and secured greater authority amid the contest for the Admiral position.
• Gern trained Lipo and Tesoro, then agreed to fight Kuzan for the Admiral position while both men maintained their friendship.
• Gern took Tesoro and Lipo toward Amazon Lily, where he offered the Snake Princess treatment in exchange for the Kuja joining the Shichibukai, then brought her aboard the White Gull.
• Gern created a Knock Up Stream that carried the White Gull to Sky Island, where the Snake Princess defeated the warriors who challenged the crew.
• Gern confronted Gan Fall, demanded directions to Birka, and destroyed Gan Fall’s temple before leaving with the Snake Princess, Tesoro, and Lipo.

Gern recruited Enel, defied the World Government’s orders on Sny Island, and fought Kuzan in a duel that ended with both men gravely injured. After negotiating with Sengoku for Douglas Bullet, Gern freed him from Impel Down and sent him to reinforce G-10 as Gern prepared to accept his Admiral promotion.

• Gern defeated Enel, awakened his Conqueror’s Haki, and recruited him as the Thunder among his Calamities before taking him to the Blue Sea.
• Gern stopped the World Government’s order to kill the women and children screened on Sny Island, and Enel struck down the CP Agents who threatened them.
• Gern and Kuzan fought a prolonged duel that ended when Gern’s Quake Flame: Molten Core Explosion knocked Kuzan unconscious, leaving Gern badly injured too.
• After Lipo healed Gern and Kuzan, Sengoku and Gern clashed over the limits placed on Gern’s autonomy, and Gern demanded Douglas Bullet in exchange for surrendering much of his independence.
• Gern received Sengoku’s approval to transfer Bullet from Impel Down and opened his cell on Level 6.
• Gern overwhelmed Bullet’s Conqueror’s Haki, branded over his Soldier No. 9 scar, and ordered him to reinforce Marine Base G-10 against Whitebeard.
• Bullet accepted Gern’s orders and sailed for the New World, while Gern prepared to attend his Admiral promotion ceremony at Marineford.

Gern’s clash with Whitebeard ended without a victor, and he later expanded G-10’s influence while Marine headquarters watched him warily. Mihawk arrived to fulfill their old promise, but Gern’s opening strike sent him nearly a hundred nautical miles away, leaving him eager to fight on.

• Gern and Whitebeard fought a devastating duel, then agreed to end the battle and return their crews home without naming a winner.
• Gern told Whitebeard that Kaido and Kurozumi Orochi had killed Oden, and Whitebeard sailed away in grief rather than attacking Wano.
• Kizaru visited G-10 to escort a Heavenly Tribute shipment, and Gern let him proceed while assigning Enel to accompany him.
• Gern expanded G-10’s territory by seizing pirate treasure and offering protection, and the newspaper named his faction the Fifth Power alongside the Emperors of the Sea.
• Mihawk arrived to challenge Gern, defeated Enel, and faced Bullet before Gern intervened and invited him to the garden.
• Mihawk renewed their old promise and demanded a strike to measure his sword against Gern’s Calamity.
• Gern drew Eight Desolations and struck Mihawk with Godfall, sending him across the sea to a deserted island nearly a hundred nautical miles away.

Gern defeated Mihawk, who accepted a place at his side, then strengthened his influence through Fish-Man Island and moved to support Rosinante’s mission against the Donquixote Family. As Crocodile drew Doflamingo into a scheme involving Alabasta, Gern and Mihawk arrived at the family’s base on Dias Island.

• Gern defeated Mihawk in a brutal duel, and Mihawk recovered in the G-10 infirmary before accepting his loss and agreeing to keep his promise to Gern.
• Sengoku learned that Mihawk had joined Gern’s faction, while Garp and Zephyr worried about Gern’s growing independent influence and Rosinante prepared to infiltrate the Donquixote Family.
• Gern left G-10 with Mihawk, visited Fish-Man Island, and publicly placed the island under his protection in return for a share of its pirate transit fees.
• Gern and Mihawk visited Shakky’s bar on Sabaody, where Rayleigh recognized Mihawk and later warned Shanks not to challenge Gern’s influence.
• Gern told Mihawk that Sengoku wanted him to support Corazon, then killed pirates who were attacking shops and abducting a girl.
• Crocodile approached Doflamingo, warned him about the Vinsmoke Family, and requested weapons for the Rebel Army as part of his plan to take control of Alabasta and find Pluton.
