Background / History

Bullet was born in the Land of Endless War and entered the battlefield at eight as a demolition soldier—a role described as practically a death sentence. His comrades betrayed him that same year, leaving him to return home gravely wounded. He subsequently killed Bled and the other betrayers and reclaimed a military medal that should have belonged to him 46 62 251 419.

His adoptive father, Douglas Gray, commanded the Garz Forth troops. Bullet’s growing military achievements threatened Gray’s position, causing him to become distant and consider acting against his adopted son. Unable to understand that change, Bullet withdrew further and found meaning almost exclusively in training 63.

At twelve, Bullet confronted the Wheel Pirate Crew in Kripa New Town. Although badly injured by Puss Scri, he rushed to shield a little girl from the pirate’s attack. Carol killed Scri and explained that protecting people was the Marines’ responsibility. The encounter revived Bullet’s desire for trustworthy companions and someone to protect 62.

Bullet asked Gray for permission to join the Navy. Recognizing how badly he had treated the boy, Gray abandoned his suspicions and reconciled with him. Both parents escorted Bullet to Sakazuki’s warship, where Sakazuki decided to oversee his training 63.

Appearance

Bullet develops from a taciturn twelve-year-old soldier into an exceptionally muscular fighter whose body bears numerous battle scars 62 80 81 221.

  • Ordinary clothing: Casual black clothes during his childhood; later wears a Marine Justice Cape 62 200.
  • Physique: Explosively powerful muscles, often exposed when he removes or tears off his shirt 81 132.
  • Demon Aura Mode: Blue or blue-green skin, scarlet eyes, and a wide, savage grin 82 111 119.
  • Krodha Asura King: Enlarged shoulders and arms, enormous fangs, and a thunderous voice 132.
  • Awakened giant form: A towering blue, demon-like body, initially nearly one hundred meters tall and later hundreds of meters tall with Nutrient Fluid support 379 405.

Personality

Betrayal made Bullet cold, distrustful, and intensely self-disciplined. Before joining the Marines, he trusted only his own strength and treated improvement as his main source of comfort. Desserts provided a rare release from his loneliness and emotional distress 62 63.

His desire for companionship survives beneath that reserve. He explicitly joins the Navy to find comrades he can trust, worries that his transformed appearance might frighten them, and responds warmly when the soldiers instead celebrate his power. Even after becoming an Admiral candidate, he continues addressing Carol and Sakazuki respectfully 63 82 247.

Bullet is also ruthless and exhilarated by difficult combat. He enjoys opponents capable of hurting him, deliberately exposes himself to Crocodile’s attacks, and takes pleasure in testing Bin Black’s destructive abilities. Against captives, he prefers resistance to surrender, admitting through his behavior that he enjoys breaking stubborn opponents’ bones 120 171 284 286.

His protective instincts do not translate into universal mercy. He risks his life for a little girl and frees Tarkia Island’s enslaved residents, yet dismisses Rayleigh’s appeal for an innocent child because his orders are to stop and kill the pirate 62 130 273.

Abilities & Skills

Hand-to-Hand Combat and Physical Endurance

  • Uses compact punches, knees, kicks, grapples, and feints aimed at vital points; Sakazuki praises the simplicity and lethality of his technique 81.
  • Employs Air Bullets and Finger Pistol, using a thunderous clap to disorient Rayleigh before striking him 133.
  • Survives Rayleigh’s final slash and Mihawk’s enormous sword attacks, though both battles leave him seriously wounded 133 199.
  • Returns from missile impacts unscathed on some occasions; later, an enlarged missile attack leaves him visibly wounded 187 273.
  • Estimates that a death match against Garp would be fifty-fifty, potentially requiring a mutually fatal hundredfold-speed descent from several thousand meters 277.

Haki

  • Armament Haki: Reinforces his body, weapons, rocks, and large boulders; can emit it externally and project destructive force 81 112 130 199 379.
  • Observation Haki: Searches battlefields for surviving enemies and distinguishes Bin Black’s real attack among refracted phantoms 112 286.
  • Conqueror’s Haki: Awakens during Demon Aura training; later knocks out everyone in Germa Kingdom except Judge and overwhelms many Level 6 prisoners 82 169 379.
  • Fusion: Blends all three types of Haki with Demon Aura into a dense blue coating 250.

Demon Aura

  • Greatly increases strength and resilience; his transformed body can either disperse incoming force or withstand it directly 82 112 277.
  • Initially causes complete loss of consciousness and indiscriminate killing. Before Sakazuki’s intervention, Bullet would awaken to find nobody around him alive 82.
  • Can merge with all three Haki types, but its origin and cultivation method remain unknown to Sakazuki 82.
  • Produces phantoms that can briefly stiffen an opponent’s muscles. Dense, compressed Armament Haki blocks this effect, as demonstrated by Sakazuki and Garp 250 275.
  • Does not eliminate the danger of losing control: during his savage battle with Kaido, Bullet again loses his reason 331.

Asura Forms

Form Characteristics
Krodha Asura King Enlarges the body, especially the shoulders and arms, emphasizing strength and endurance. Used against Rayleigh, Mihawk, and Bin Black 132 199 250 286.
Great Asura King Redistributes the enlarged muscles for coordinated whole-body movement and much greater speed; supports attacks involving demon phantoms 250 331.

More-More Fruit

  • Amplifies the speed, strength, size, weight, and other properties of objects he touches, nominally up to one hundredfold; also amplifies his own movement speed 251.
  • Turns small bullets into millstone-sized projectiles and enlarges miniature missiles and meteor hammers for combat 251 252 284 286.
  • Enables him to catch and pin Borsalino in a close-range speed contest. Sakazuki judges that Bullet could kill him within five hundred meters 254.
  • Initially controls tenfold speed comfortably, estimates a limit of twenty- or thirtyfold, and finds hundredfold movement uncontrollable 251.
  • Consumes stamina. Vegapunk’s tests show that Bullet’s powerful physique can cause amplification to overshoot the intended multiplier, but enormous targets still exceed his available stamina 261.
  • Awakening allows him to enlarge his own body dramatically. The enhanced strength is difficult to restrain precisely, and the giant form causes fatigue 379 380.
  • Does not make him unbeatable: coordinated Observation Haki lets the Red Hair Pirates predict and surround his movement, while Bin Black’s diamond defenses resist his physical attacks 287 291.

Swordsmanship and Improvised Projectiles

  • Uses a sword during his childhood battles and later channels Sword Aura through a blade to tear an enemy apart 62 112.
  • Throws Haki-coated rubble as a bullet-like barrage and hurls enormous reinforced boulders 130 199.
  • Uses his own body as a missile delivery system, carrying explosives directly into enemy ships at speeds unavailable to conventional launchers 187.

  • Adoptive mother — Prepares the family’s farewell meal and accompanies Bullet to the harbor 63.

Trivia

  • Desserts remain a conspicuous weakness: Carol tempts him with strawberry mousse, chocolate sundaes, and rainbow cotton candy 96.
  • The narration explicitly attributes his avoidance of the Combine-Combine Fruit to joining Sakazuki at twelve; the fruit consequently falls into another person’s hands 142.
  • After his duel with Mihawk destroys a third of the island, Bullet acknowledges that he will have to compensate its inhabitants 200.
