| Cursed Spirit Manipulation awakened | 42 | Recounted in a flashback: awakens his technique while saving a little girl from a cursed spirit and swallows his first cursed spirit ball. By his introduction, he has spent three years consuming these balls without formal guidance. |
Background / History
Geto grew up able to see cursed spirits, but his parents could not understand what he described. They initially asked whether he had suffered a nightmare and later took him to a psychologist. Neither response helped him make sense of the monsters or his abilities 42.
After awakening Cursed Spirit Manipulation, he believed an ordinary life was no longer possible. Cursed spirits frequently approached him, leading him to think that others would be safer keeping their distance. Nevertheless, the frightened reactions of people around him left him lonely. He eventually transferred schools, concentrated on his studies, and tried to fit into ordinary society 42.
Jujutsu Headquarters had deliberately contributed to his isolation. Its officials staged cursed spirit attacks in front of him, exploiting his kindness to make him reveal his powers. Their intended outcome was to break his trust in ordinary people, then offer him acceptance and recruit him as an obedient Special Grade weapon. This was a plan for his future, not a rank he had already attained 44.
Appearance
Geto is a black-haired, purple-eyed boy. At their first meeting, he stands almost half a head taller than Kamu Zenin 40 41.
- Hair: Messy, medium-length black hair worn loose, with a distinctive lock of bangs hanging over his forehead 40.
- Eyes: Deep purple; described as small from Satoru Gojo’s perspective 40 46.
- Condition during his rescue: Deathly pale and exhausted, but still forcing himself to remain alert 40.
Personality
Geto is compassionate even when helping others places him in danger. He follows his classmates into a powerful cursed spirit’s domain because he cannot stand by while they are threatened. Despite being unable to defeat it, he has no regrets about trying to protect them and asks to remain behind to help his rescuer 40 42.
He is polite, observant, and eager to repay kindness. He apologizes for forgetting to introduce himself, offers to reimburse Kamu for dessert, and later brings her a coffee-flavored cake after noticing that she dislikes very sweet food 41 42 46.
His loneliness makes acceptance particularly important to him. Meeting other children who can see cursed spirits gives him a sense of belonging he has lacked for three years. He tolerates Gojo’s spoiled temper because Gojo accepts his technique without treating him like a monster 42 47.
Abilities & Skills
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Geto’s innate technique allows him to control cursed spirits after subduing them. Its name surfaced in his mind without anyone teaching it to him 42.
- Acquisition requirement: A cursed spirit must be subdued before he can control it; his recollection includes swallowing cursed spirit balls 42.
- Summoning-based combat: Kamu recognizes his fighting style as similar to her own reliance on summoned shikigami 42.
- Capacity: He has not encountered a limit, but explicitly admits that he does not know whether one exists 42.
- Cost of consumption: The balls are nauseating, with a taste he compares to a rag used to wipe up vomit 42.
- Early limitations: His collected spirits are relatively weak, and all are used up during the school incident 42.
- Growth potential: Gojo’s Six Eyes identify considerable potential in the technique and lead him to expect Geto to become very strong 46 47.
Cursed Spirit Perception and Protection
- Can see cursed spirits that ordinary people cannot perceive 41 42.
- Protects two classmates for almost an entire day inside the domain of a cursed spirit approaching Special Grade, despite having no formal instructor 41 42.
- Cannot defeat that spirit at his current level and requires Kamu’s intervention 41 42.
Relationships
- Kamu Zenin / Kuang Wu — Rescuer and friend. She explains cursed spirits and jujutsu to him, exchanges contact information, and introduces him to Gojo. Geto thanks her with a coffee-flavored cake and later sends a silver bracelet decorated with deep-purple beads for her birthday 41 42 43 46 50.
- Satoru Gojo — Close friend introduced through Kamu. After an initial misunderstanding, they quickly bond; Geto offers familiarity with ordinary life, while Gojo recognizes his potential. Within a month, they address each other as “Satoru” and “Geto” 46 47 48.
- Parents — Concerned but unable to understand his perception of cursed spirits. Their attempts to help include taking him to a psychologist 42.
- Jujutsu Headquarters — Manipulators targeting his technique. They engineer incidents intended to isolate him and make him dependent on their acceptance 44.
- Kenjaku — Considers Geto a key figure in his own plans. While occupying Nobuyuki Kamo’s body, he exploits Headquarters’ ambition to acquire Cursed Spirit Manipulation 44.
Story Role / Major Arcs
School Domain Rescue
- Geto is discovered inside a cursed spirit’s domain with two frightened classmates. Kamu evacuates the other children through her shadows, while Geto requests permission to stay and help 40.
- Nue breaks the domain from outside, and the Divine Dogs defeat and devour the weakened spirit 41.
- Geto stops Kamu before she leaves to ask about the monsters and his powers. Their subsequent conversation gives him his first explanation of jujutsu and the promise of another meeting 41 42 43.
Headquarters’ Failed Setup
- Headquarters arranges the school incident after Geto’s transfer threatens its efforts to isolate him 44.
- Its plan depends on Kamu breaking the domain before rescuing the weakened children, allowing officials to blame their deaths on her and turn Geto against the Zenin and Gojo factions 44.
- Kamu instead enters the domain and evacuates the children first. Her later confrontation with Headquarters confirms her suspicion that Geto’s encounter was no accident 40 43.
- Kenjaku reassures the officials that their broader scheme can continue, claiming Kamu has no genuine attachment to Geto 44.
Friendship and Concealed Visits
- Kamu brings Gojo to Tokyo specifically to introduce the two boys. Once Gojo’s jealousy is resolved, they quickly become friends 45 46 47.
- After learning that Headquarters may be plotting against Geto, Gojo secretly brings him into Kamu’s courtyard, relying on its shadow barrier to conceal their presence 48.
- The boys play video games together there. Geto’s ordinary schooling also prompts Kamu to confront the lack of academic qualifications in her own clan-controlled education 48 49.
