Background / History
Satoru was born into the Gojo Clan with the Six Eyes, a trait said to appear only once every few centuries. His birth strengthened cursed spirits and increased casualties among sorcerers sent to exorcise them. A black-market bounty of one hundred million was placed on him immediately 6 36.
The Gojo Clan raised him under close protection and indulged his demands. His birthday banquet served as a public debut and a declaration of the clan’s growing power. The Kamo Clan Head tried to persuade Naobito Zenin to act against him, but Naobito recognized the attempt to pit the Gojo and Zenin clans against each other 6 7 31.
His education takes place within the clan rather than at an ordinary elementary school. Alongside jujutsu and hand-to-hand lessons, he studies mathematics, which provides a necessary foundation for mastering his cursed technique 22 24 48.
Appearance
Satoru is a white-haired boy with exceptionally clear blue eyes, repeatedly described by Kamu as breathtakingly beautiful 6 17.
- Hair: Smooth, lustrous white hair 17.
- Eyes: Bright blue; compared by Kamu to mint candies and pure seawater 6 45.
- Traditional clothing: Wears dragonfly-patterned haori in blue or white 6 17.
- Casual clothing: Chooses a simple black shirt and black pants during the Tokyo shopping trip 46.
Personality
Satoru is confident, blunt, and accustomed to getting his way. He enters the Zenin estate without waiting for permission and openly challenges Kamu’s strength. His curiosity can be tactless: after disarming her, he sincerely asks how she could train for so long and remain so weak 21 25.
His aloof public bearing hides an easily embarrassed and sensitive side. Kamu’s suggestion of a “bond of fate” makes him blush and flee, while meeting Geto initially leaves him hurt because he assumes Kamu prefers another friend. Once the misunderstanding is resolved, he quickly warms to Geto 22 24 46 47.
He is intensely competitive and refuses to accept Kamu’s declared victory after their interrupted duel. He also resists restrictions on his freedom, confronting the clan head through a hunger strike and destroying his confinement barriers after discovering the deception behind them 26 31 32.
Abilities & Skills
Six Eyes
The Six Eyes allow Satoru to perceive and analyze cursed energy with exceptional precision.
- Detects the residual cursed energy left at a mission site and identifies Kamu as the Ten Shadows user 17.
- Sees Kamu’s foreign cursed energy gathering inside his shadow before she emerges 32.
- Can distinguish her imitation of another person’s cursed energy, which she believes other observers cannot detect 28.
- Learns how to undo his cursed-energy seal by watching Kamu perform the procedure once 33.
- Recognizes Geto’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation and its future growth potential 46 47.
Limitless
Satoru uses Limitless as a defensive technique that prevents attacks from reaching him.
- Stops Kamu’s cursed-energy-coated Hidden Light directly in front of his body 26.
- Keeps him unharmed and clean when the training grounds collapse around him 26.
- Allows him to keep out the summer heat while wearing traditional clothing 45.
- At his childhood level, using Limitless and Blue together with the Six Eyes places excessive strain on his brain 27.
Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue
Satoru gathers a large amount of cursed energy into a blue-black orb before releasing Blue 26.
- Uses it against Kamu during their jujutsu match; her giant Rabbit Escape meets the attack, and the collision destroys the training grounds 26.
- Plans to use it to blast apart the barriers confining him, but discovers that his cursed energy has been sealed 31.
- Its use during the duel contributes to his overexertion and collapse 26 27.
Hollow Purple
- Uses Hollow Purple to blast the Gojo Clan elders’ meeting room, silencing their objections to his visits to Kamu 24.
Close-Quarters Combat
Satoru is substantially stronger than Kamu in direct physical combat.
- Brings a sword to their match and disarms her after a short exchange 25.
- Serves as the Seventh Elder’s benchmark when criticizing Kamu’s poor progress in combat training 36.
- Later completes a grade-one mission quickly enough to visit Kamu for her birthday 50.
Equipment / Items
- Sword — Uses an unnamed sword in his hand-to-hand match with Kamu; gives it to a guard before their jujutsu duel 25.
- Video games — Buys games during outings, recommends a console to Kamu, and plays against Geto in her courtyard 17 34 48.
- Candy — Carries numerous sweets in his pockets and gives Kamu a tin of limited-edition strawberry milk candy for her birthday 50.
Relationships
- Kamu Zenin / Kuang Wu — Childhood friend and self-declared rival. His interest in her Ten Shadows Technique leads to repeated visits, a destructive duel, and shared outings. She frees him from confinement and introduces him to Geto 17 21 26 32 47.
- Suguru Geto — Friend introduced by Kamu. Satoru respects his technique’s potential and enjoys his knowledge of the ordinary world. Within a month, they use “Satoru” and “Geto” with each other; Satoru also brings him secretly into Kamu’s courtyard after learning Headquarters may be targeting him 47 48.
- Gojo Clan Head — Protective authority figure who handles Satoru’s hunger strike. Conceals the political reason for his confinement behind a claim about increased assassination attempts 31.
- Gojo Clan elders — Indulgent but restrictive guardians. They object to his friendship with Kamu, encourage the duel through a misunderstanding, and later seal his cursed energy while he is unconscious 24 31 33.
- Naobito Zenin — Recognizes Satoru’s exceptional potential at the banquet, then boasts to a Gojo elder after Kamu’s apparent victory 7 27.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Meeting the Ten Shadows User
Satoru arrives late to a mission after shopping for games and eating, only to find that Kamu has already exorcised the Special Grade Cursed Womb. Their first formal conversation ends with Kamu asking for his eyes and Satoru answering by asking for her hands 17.
He begins visiting her every few days. Her teasing suggestion that their inherited abilities imply a bond of fate embarrasses him; a Gojo elder mistakes his reaction for a dispute and recommends a duel. Satoru consequently trains to defeat her 21 22 24.
Duel and Confinement
Satoru wins their physical exchange, but their subsequent jujutsu match destroys the training grounds. Kamu claims victory because he has exhausted his cursed energy; he insists the interrupted match does not count and then faints from overexertion 25 26 27.
The Gojo Clan confines him and seals his cursed energy. After eight days, Kamu enters through his shadow and reveals that the clan is preventing him from attending her succession ceremony. Once she removes the seal, he destroys the surrounding barriers and leaves with her for Kyoto 31 32 33.
Friendship with Geto
Kamu takes Satoru to Tokyo to introduce him to Geto. His initial jealousy gives way to an immediate friendship, and the two begin spending time together in Kamu’s courtyard 45 46 47 48.
On Kamu’s tenth birthday, Satoru arrives after completing a grade-one mission, brings his own candy gift, and delivers Geto’s bracelet 50.
Notable Quotes
“Your hands are beautiful, too. Can you give them to me?” 17
“I'll come again! And then I'll beat you fair and square!” 26
Trivia
- Prefers extremely sugary desserts. He rejects Kamu’s homemade sweets as insufficiently sweet and later requests a strawberry parfait with extra sugar 21 42 43.
- Considers a custom, multicolored Kamen Rider bracelet a better birthday gift than Geto’s silver bracelet with purple beads 50.
- Kamu’s claim that he hides under his blankets and cries when she is busy is part of her attempt to persuade Geto to tolerate his temper, not an independently shown behavior 47.
